IBB to run for president in 2011. What is he looking for judging by his past records. This is the height of obsession for power. Please read this article called from the nation newspaper 11/11/2007 and give your opinion.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Despite the declaration by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) that the December 8 convention of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is illegal, the battle to wrest the soul of the party from former president Olusegun Obasanjo is being intensified.

Leading this onslaught is former military President, General Ibrahim Babangida.

The Nation

gathered that the mission tagged "Pay back time" by Babangida’s loyalists is aimed at positioning the Minna-born retired General ahead of the 2011 presidential primaries of the PDP.

The agenda is to (in the short term) reduce Obasanjo’s hold on the party and (in the long term) possibly oust him from the party.

The battle ground is the Eagle Square, Abuja venue of the convention which may hold at the end of the year or early next year.

It was gathered that Babangida’s anger stems from the way he was treated by his former boss in the military between 1999 and 2007 when Obasanjo held sway as a civilian president.

Babangida was a member of the Supreme Military Council (SMC) in the late 70s when Obasanjo was military head of state.

While former Ebonyi State governor Dr. Sam Egwu is believed to be the candidate of Obasanjo for the chairmanship position, the Babangida forces have thrown up former Senate President Anyim Pius Anyim as Dr. Ahmadu Ali’s successor.

Although there are others in the race, it is believed Egwu and Anyim (both hail from Ebonyi) are the leading candidates.

Penultimate Friday in Abuja, it was gathered that Babangida loyalists met to strategise on how to deal with the "Obasanjo faction" in the party and ultimately remove him as the chairman of the party’s Board of Trustees (BOT).

Babangida was said to have complained that in June 1998, he went to Ota, Ogun State shortly after Obasanjo was released from prison by former military Head of State General Abdulsalami Abubakar to convince him that he was the choice of the military establishment for the February 27, 1999 presidential election.

Using military connections and some entrenched influences, especially in the North, Babangida and others manipulated the February 1999 presidential primaries of the party in Jos, Plateau State to favour Obasanjo.

After winning the elections, he was eventually sworn in on Monday 29, 1999 and then the music changed.

Babangida’s attempt to succeed Obasanjo was frustrated by the former president.

Even Muhammad, Babangida’s son, was arrested by operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) in a move seen as an attempt to cow Babangida to submission.

Although it still cannot be confirmed, The Nation gathered that Babangida is interested in the 2011 presidential race. And he knows that for now, the only viable platform to realize the ambition is the PDP.

As the BOT chairman, Obasanjo still wields some influence as Yar’Adua still kowtows to him.
Obviously, the first target of Babangida’s attack, if he is to control the party, is Obasanjo, his structure or stooges in the party and government.

It is believed that Babangida actively influenced the Integrity Group in the National Assembly led by Hon Farouk Lawan in forcing former Speaker Mrs. Patricia Olubunmi Etteh out of office.

On June 5, Obasanjo influenced the emergence of Senator David Mark and Mrs. Etteh as senate President and Speaker.

The next strategy of the Babangida group which controls the National Assembly is to sway Mark to its side and if he no longer amenable, plan for his impeachment.

It was gathered that in the fight to battle Obasanjo to a standstill, the Babangida group is banking on three camps-Integrity Group, Northern Caucus and some governors.

When Mrs. Etteh was forced to resign and she was to be replaced, all the Northern Representatives voted for Hon. Dimeji Bankole.

During the convention, it is obvious that governors will control majority of the delegates.

A former senator said on Thursday that the Babangida group is already persuading some of these governors to back former Senate President Pius Anyim during the convention.

The thinking is that if members of the Integrity Group and most delegates from the north vote for Anyim, victory is certain.

And once Anyim becomes the chairman, it is matter of days before Obasanjo is shown the way out the way he removed his predecessor Chief Tony Anenih.

A source said once this is done, the real battle will now begin.

The strategy is to deny Yar’Adua ticket for his re-election in 2011 and make Babangida the beneficiary.

At what age?  His "barrack age" or " Minna age"? cheesy

babasin:

this is nigeria-, anything is possible

You got that right.  Let him come back and rule Nigeria because he deserves Nigeria and Nigeria deserves him. A match made in heaven. Those are the kinds of leaders that Nigerians need since most of them are incapable of thinking what the difference is between the ground and the sky.

At what age?  His "barrack age" or " Minna age"?

Age is nothing but a number of year; If OBJ could do it at the age of 100 years old, anything is possible.

Moreover, it is amusing how folks say "no" behind the scene, but when the show begins Yes, yes yes, yes, yes, yes, yes will be falling like an uncontrollable heavy rain fall. But the real politicians know what's up.

Fact: Nigeria as a nation is controlled by less than 20 people, these people do not make noise and mostly invisible.

This latest development remains speculation till the man himself or close associate confirms it.
Hence, stay cool, guys!

Just keep in mind that the name of our current president is Yar'Adua and he's from North.

Fact: Nigeria as a nation is controlled by less than 20 people, these people do not make noise and mostly invisible.

Which is very most likely the reason Nigeria is the disgrace it is - same old tried and failed ideas from the group of
20.

If the North is foolish enough to field IBB as a candidate, then may God give him the wisdom to underdevelop the
entire place more than he ever did before. I still think this is pure fantasy - Nigeria is not what it was when this
fool found his way to power.

Re: IBB To Run For President In 2011: Your Opinion by vigasimple(m): 5:54pm On Nov 11, 2007
Not impossible but very (highly) unlikely.

IBB judgement from God is waiting in the wings. Did anybody remotely think ABACHA will disappear the way he did?

God way is not man's way. The loudspeaker for 'IBB' and his 'EGUNJE/ SETTLEMENT' regime will no doubt like him to come back but I think the dynamics has really changed.

But who knows, this is Nigeria, pigs may fly. It just occur to me that if such pigs were to fly, it may not land.

God is supreme and extraordinary and let us leave him in charge, then we shall see whether or not that would happen.

BigB1 - You have seen the preview of what is to come should your man IBB decide to venture out.
No doubt, there will be lots of people urging him on, they have to eat too (enjoy a little Globacom
dividends), but as someone put it earlier, pigs may fly but may never land.
Re: IBB To Run For President In 2011: Your Opinion by BigB11(m): 4:25am On Nov 12, 2007
Calm down, folks.
The man hasn't confirmed any of this development; furthermore, it makes no sense to waste time and energy on things you clearly can not control.

(enjoy a little Globacom dividends)

@Iyke-D:
Very low, inaccurate and absolutely unnecessary.
Obviously, you're a lost soul.

I will advise you to focus more on the topic instead of wasting your time smelling Big B1.

There are some Nigerians that will kill him with their personal hands. As popular as he is in the international world - he dare not try it. The controversy around him will be too much and I'm still sure someone will assassinate him if he attempts it a second time.

Which International World, you mean the International World of Minna (a few banana republic countries in West Africa and
some Islamic countries in North Africa)? The man may be a demi-god in Nigeria but he is a non-entity outside of the country,
I mean what real achievement or contribution has he made within or outside Nigeria? He is very lucky that he still carries a
diplomatic passport, otherwise I doubt if he can even gain entry into any country of significance.

People have to realise that the whole IBB project is a source of livelihood to some people, and the longer the euphoria and fantasy of IBB Presidency remains the longer their jobs will remain.

It is so shameful how a popular outcry by vexed Nigerians in the face of kleptocracy which forced Etteh to resign could be reduced to politics of OBJ vs IBB.

If this so called IBB unslaught is that supreme, David Mark would have been history. People just cash into popular outcry and start making noise about political clout.

Question for you:

Have you ever heard IBB saying anything negative about David Mark?
Re: IBB To Run For President In 2011: Your Opinion by McKren(m): 4:49pm On Nov 12, 2007
IBB has not said anything negative about anybody, he has private channels of communication with everybody.
Re: IBB To Run For President In 2011: Your Opinion by BigB11(m): 4:57pm On Nov 12, 2007
If IBB has anything against you or your actions, 99% of the time, you will be the only person that knows about it.
Many people (including OBJ) became who they are today simply just because of this man.

That's laughable. Sure, IBB was very instrumental in OBJ's second coming , but to
say IBB made OBJ? Hen hen hen hen. . . OK - IBB made Murtala, Gowon, Shagari, etc. As
a matter of fact, without IBB, Nigeria will be non-existent. Pure fantasy, but that is very
understandable if one lives and breathes IBB!

Man don't get carried away, I don't mean this in the positive manner. (was simply quoting him)

I am simply telling you he is a coward who never takes a stance on National issues, a fact which led to the stalemate when he was leader.
