Hello all,

I am not familiar with the auto section at all, even though I found some very useful info there. I am planning to go to Germany very soon and will be looking to buy a second hand car there. The problem is, I don't speak a word of german, and my visit will be quite short. Does anybody have a website/info on how to find a reliable second hand car seller in germany?

Be rest assured that a lot of Germans understand English because of the presence of many Brits and Americans (cos of world war two), I was even surprise when i went their last year. Most signs are translated to English so u should be fine. As regards to finding where or how to buy a car you can ask your hotel manager or host,I reckon there are loads of car dealerships in Berlin. You can also buy a detailed city guide like their own version of Yellow pages from the airport when you get there to get a list car dealerships around you. Bear in mind that some businesses close on Sundays unlike England were its d other way round. Godspeed.

I was thinking of going to hamburg, berlin or frankfurt. Is it easy to go around with public transportation/taxi, I'm a bit worried since I won't have much time to spend there...

To be very sincere I don't know if documentaions can be done in english but I won't be surprise if it can be done cos of the english speaking population there. My advice will be once you find a car dealer, before purchasing the car you want ask them how easy it will be to ship it from were they are and the documentation required so as not to have any problems. As regards to transportaion I'd assume public transport will be more cheaper as it is in most european countries but might not be the best option for you since you're new in town (except you're very good with map reading you might get lost as it in most situations...lol), however its worth trying. Here's a list of taxi fares for the cities you'll be visiting:

You can also use the metro which I reckon will be quite convenient for you since you'll be travelling to other cities (There are free mini maps in the train station you can use to understand the route).

i have never travld to germany but what i wana point to you is this. You truly may get a german or European car @ a cheap purchase cost over there but have you researched on the cost of shipping to Nigeria? Unlike the US where we get vehicles shipped home for around 1100-1400 dollars,i think it may cost waaaay more from germany. Also,keep in mind clearing. D cost of clearing in our ports is crazy these days! U sound hip,so i'm sure u dont intend to buy a BMW 3 SERIES 1985 model but something sweet and modern. Bear in mind clearing at our ports now starts @ around 200k-3M.
Why am i saying all these?
I want you to consider buying a car here in naija upon ur return home cuz it may end up costing u way way more buying from germany urself than doing so in Nigeria here.

@balogunsam : tks for your input. I already have contacts to clear the car in nigeria and ship it from germany for a price that fits my current budget. Now it all depends on what I can find in germany. I actually don't plan to drive the first car(s) I will ship, but sell them. I'll buy a very sweet and modern car for myself when the time comes

@Miss_Ife: Would've been of more assistance if I lived in germany but I only go dere during summer for military exercises. Please let us know what your experience was like after the trip.
