EPOMA:the guy is stupid. he does not see what is happening in america. the place is going down faster than gravity. all the people with money are running out of the place and moving to europe. martial law is about to be drafted in to keep the people in control when the economy finally bottoms out. laws are been drafted everyday to keep people under control because of the impending doom. so what zuckerberg is about to do now is cash out and run off to join his buddy in europe. and then the mugus like afam4neva who bought the shares will be left holding the bag |

afam4eva:Facebook may not fail in the next 2yrs, but it will definitely fail. Its cyber age for christ age, Google as a search engine has more room for targeted ads than facebook, facebook is trading on mere speculations and who ever has made profit from it this moment should save it. What goes up, must come down. |

yahoo succumbed to competition and the same thing will happen to facebook when a more innovative social network media is created.google on the other hand keeps creating ideas and products.i saw the self-driving car on CNN and i was amazed.if i could,i'd buy google stocks.thats the future of everything |

buzugee: 86 billion net worth based on what ? speculations ? what assets do they have ? what products do they make ? . you are drunk on that babylon juice My guy, you are right. Facebook is purely a marketing company just like Yahoo and Google. What else do they bring to the table to be worth $86 Billion? My argument is strictly from a competitive advantage and core competency point of view. |
Re: Facebook Shares Opens At $42 As Trading Begins by Afam4eva(m): 7:16pm On May 18, 2012 |
courage89:So, are you insinuating that being a marketing company is nothing? Why must they bring something else to the table. What does Toyota bring to the table other than automobiles? |
Re: Facebook Shares Opens At $42 As Trading Begins by ektbear: 7:23pm On May 18, 2012 |
Marketing pays a lot of money. You can make billions of dollars a year serving advertisements. This is the core business of both Google and Facebook, and it is highly profitable. Just as legitimate as making money from selling potatoes, cars, fish, etc. |
Re: Facebook Shares Opens At $42 As Trading Begins by courage89(m): 7:24pm On May 18, 2012 |
This hype reminded me of the same speculative prop-up that happened when Groupon had its IPO couple of months ago. First day...the stock traded at about $26, now its trading around $12. This is just about 6 months apart. What happened? |
Re: Facebook Shares Opens At $42 As Trading Begins by violent(m): 7:30pm On May 18, 2012 |
Goldman sachs is selling half of its stake at IPO. If they really think the shares will be worth more in the future, common sense will mean they are more likely to hold on to it now! This is just another bloody bubble....looks like the world never learns anything from history after all. Facebook may be a good investment, but like any other investment, there's a price where it becomes a bad investment. Any price that puts the value of facebook above a company like Citigroup and Boeing combined together, just does not make any sense! |
Re: Facebook Shares Opens At $42 As Trading Begins by courage89(m): 7:33pm On May 18, 2012 |
afam4eva: No, thats not what i'm saying. The point i'm making is that, the valuation is too optimistic. $30 Billion may be... $86 Billion? When a would be comparable company such as YAHOO, has a market capitalization of around $17 Billion. I would not compare Facebook with google because of those other industries Google competes including operating system such as Android and others. |
Re: Facebook Shares Opens At $42 As Trading Begins by ektbear: 7:33pm On May 18, 2012 |
violent: hmm News Alert from The Wall Street Journal Facebook shares opened around $42 but fell to as low as $38 in their first half hour of trading before underwriters stepped in to support the price, according to people familiar with the matter. The debut was marred by a 30-minute delay, coupled with reports from traders about lack of communication about orders. http://online.wsj.com/article/SB10001424052702303448404577411903118364314.html?mod=djemalertNEWS Indeed. |

Facebook is a passing fad. By the time people get tired, it will collapse like myspace. |

Re: Facebook Shares Opens At $42 As Trading Begins by ektbear: 7:35pm On May 18, 2012 |
Google actually doesn't make much money from any of its other businesses. Android doesn't generate a lot of revenue or profit for them. The OS is free, is it not? Basically they are an advertising company, just like Fbook. |
Re: Facebook Shares Opens At $42 As Trading Begins by kenerep: 7:36pm On May 18, 2012 |
just to add...the sustainability of facebook will depend largely on their ability to turn out innovative features that will make their customers(facebookers) stick with them and not jump ship when the next big thing comes up. Take for example the buying of instagram earlier this year, though i caught up on the instagram thing a bit late, but it already had 40 million subscribers. I think it is deals like this that will make or mar the future of facebook. As for yahoo, i think people just got tired of downloading yahoo ,messenger before talking to dear ones, facebook should learn from the mistakes of yahoo i must say. To the issue of whether it is wise to invest in facebook right now, i would say not to commit much into it, that way you wont be into a big risk, even rhe chinesse investment watchdog is warning its investors off facebook right now. I think on the long run the future of facebook will depend largely on how well they can turn out innovative features.....i think the apple model better explains it. |
Re: Facebook Shares Opens At $42 As Trading Begins by ektbear: 7:39pm On May 18, 2012 |
Yahoo is dying, pretty much. lol. I don't think that Yahoo should be brought up in the same sentence as Google and Facebook any more. The latter two have at least positive prospects for the future. |
Re: Facebook Shares Opens At $42 As Trading Begins by Afam4eva(m): 7:39pm On May 18, 2012 |
ekt_bear: Google actually doesn't make much money from any of its other businesses. You're right. They're solely an advertising firm. They just create other products as an avenue to garner more followership. |
Re: Facebook Shares Opens At $42 As Trading Begins by ektbear: 7:41pm On May 18, 2012 |
I think the reason Facebook will be pretty hard to dislodge is that they are pretty proactive about neutralizing threats. Google+ came out, they implemented many of its best features into Fbook. Instagram came out and started racking up users, they quickly purchase them before a rival (like Twitter or Google) could buy. They are doing a pretty good job at this particular task, imo. |
Re: Facebook Shares Opens At $42 As Trading Begins by courage89(m): 7:45pm On May 18, 2012 |
ekt_bear: Google actually doesn't make much money from any of its other businesses. Thats not true? The OS may be free to users...but to companies who are using them as a "competitive advantage", they have to pay a royalty fee. Samsung and other smart phone makers run Android OS. The operating system is part of the reason why Samsung still maintains leadership in global smartphone marketshare. 1 Like |
Re: Facebook Shares Opens At $42 As Trading Begins by courage89(m): 7:50pm On May 18, 2012 |
The only reason why I think the share price might do well in the short run and long run; will depend on how liquid the shares might be. Few shares will be in circulation, and that might drive "price war" considering how popular the company is. It will not be based on fundamental at all. |
