It depends ... It would be wise to hibernate if you want to save some pages ,that you want to use some time soon but since almost every one is using window and could miss behave any time soon you could still consider saving those pages or what ever else and shutting down your computer foe use some time else |

Logging off is used when you login to a computer used by more than one user so as to enable them login whenever you are not making use or not login to thesame system. Are you referring to shutting down or log off, hibernating a system will not cause any harm or damage to a system, is best used when you want to resume and continue from a previous working system environment. I have been hibernating my system 6 days in a week for more than 3 years now and it has never caused any harm to my system. But one should also take not that accumulated services may slow down your system if you do not restart it once in one or two weeks to stop the background services you do not need to run. Hibernating is a way of shutdown, but instead of stopping all the services running befor the shutdown, hibernating the system will save this services and the working environment in a portion of your system hard disk space and cut off power from the system resources like the RAM, Processor etc. |

With a genuine window OS on your laptop, you have no choice but to restart at least once in a week, sometimes to uninstall something unwanted, you also need to restart. i hardly "directly" shut down, i hibernate, but sometimes my laptop freezes which means i must shut down to have it restored. in 5 years, i have used 3 laptops, not because they got bad but because i had to move to the newest one, the others that i disposed have never given the new owners issues. taught them to always hibernate too. |

For over two years, I have been hibernating my laptop and it is still OK today. So there is no problem hibernating... Logging out will close everything you are working on.If u are having issues, update your antivirus, scan , update OS and restart. |

Read somewhere that hibernating may adversely affect the battery life in the long run so I just close my lapy and put it to sleep I do shut down once in a while but as I type I haven't shut down in about 2 weeks |

Re: Hibernating Or Logging Out: Which Is Preferable? by ifeci: 7:19pm On May 31, 2012 |
please both logging off and hibernating have different functions so you can't say one is better than the other. you hibernate when you have programs, docs, work, sites that you want to continue working on as you switch on ur system whether saved or unsaved, it could even be a movie u were watching and ur battery is down, u can just hibernate so when u charge or switch to another battery u can continue from where u stoped. while shutting down closes all programs. shutting down could also be used to troubleshoot your system in a situation where a program is not functioning properly, just shut down and it might be solved |

yea... I av a similar prob sha.. Bt i fink hibernatin is better cos it keep ur system workin faster n easily accessable. Unlike shortin down dat u need 2 start frm d scrab! Hibernating does not make ur system work faster rather it slows it down because u hv programs running already and depending on how large the size of those programs are, it slows ur system while shutting down closes all programs so wen u restart, u can choose which programs u want to run |

Hibernation! Login off? Nooo... Why go for chicken when there is turkey at no extra price? "shutdown" would be a better option. Or, hibernate and restart when necessary. |
Re: Hibernating Or Logging Out: Which Is Preferable? by otodeluxe(m): 10:32pm On May 31, 2012 |
Hibernating is the best. If the hibernating option is available why don't hibernate. If you hibernate your session will be saved and you can resumed from where you stopped and nothing will be closed though it requires a lotta space. Logoff closes the session and sets the computer on standby a.k.a death mode . Hope you can extract the sense in my nonsense? Okay cool |

afam4eva: I've been wanting to ask same question because i've never shut down my system in 3 years. I only hibernate. Ever since I found out that hibernating does nothing to my computer, I've simply done the same for over 2-3 years too. I only shutdown after an update to the OS/Software/Browsers e.t.c and with a very powerful laptop, it gives you no problems. Most cloud based computers being developed such as the Chrome laptop will simply need to hibernate as programs will be hosted on the cloud and you can continue with your work once you connect with the internet. All this story of shutting down being better is all misinformation - shutting down means a slower start. Why go through that when I can start my work in less than 5 seconds after opening my laptop? |

tessyade: Maybe because the system is so use to hibernating hence "log off" refuse to function. You know computer can be very funny at times. I still think the best is to log off except you want to take a short break of say ten minutes. If it refusese to log-off ... Remove the battery ... Shikena |
