Hello house, am really considering going for a 2nd degree, i had my 1st degree in Human Anatomy, hoping to have my 2nd degree in radiography, am currently runin my masters in Human Anatomy. I want to work as a university lecturer with my Human Anatomy, and opening a medical diagnostic center (x-ray, scan, ultrasound etc) wit my 2nd degree to be, please i need ur advice, especially from people in medical field. its good to hav a 2nd degree in radiography, but here in nigeria, ur 1st degree must be MBBS, then pass primaries in radiology and apply as a resident in the dept. That is when u can practise as a radiographer.
I dont kno if u r naija based or not, but here ooo, nearly all radiologists and sonologists are doctors. They only employ B.Sc radiography to develop x ray films and maintain their equipment

What i m just tryin to say is that normally, the head should be a consultant radiologist, then resident doctors, radiographers, anatomists, etc. Now, even ordinary comm. Health extension worker fit do ultrasound scan to diagnose leiomyoma

pls nobody shud dciv u. with a degree in radiography u can get a licenz to prac radiogphy n in dat case wu says u cant poen a diag centre. aw many hospitals are owned by medics in nigeria

@poster; U dont need Bsc. Radiography in other own Radiographic Lab, what U need is a liscence from a govering body.
@smart; Ur overly professed Radiographer translates to an imaging technician in developed world (whose Job hoves around taking shots with instruction from a Radiologist).

Pls i advise u 2 take ur time and be patient 2 study medicine and do ur residency in radiology and u will be a consultant radiologist ....because a radiographer is a photographer who takes picture xray picture under d control of a doctor who will interprete d pictures and make d final decision ,pls i dnt want u 2 be a medical photographer in d hospital or haven't u learnt lesson 4rm studying anatomy....In naija it is medicine and the rest wen it comes 2 medical field

As a radiographer(B.Rad) Ɣõu̶̲̥̅̊ can open Y̶̲̥̅̊o̶̲̥̅̊Your own diagnostic center including any form of imaging modality.as for ultrasound is an opperator dependant,Ɣõu̶̲̥̅̊ will be d one to report d pathologies Ɣõu̶̲̥̅̊ see, cus radiographer is a sonographer nd even most of wat does radiology undergone durin their residency is wat a B rad student had covered while @ level 2 nd 3.
As 4 d other modality apart from uss,d radiology will report dat 4 Ɣõu̶̲̥̅̊,but as a graduate of B.rad is wat Ɣõu̶̲̥̅̊ can do,but is beyond Ɣõu̶̲̥̅̊ scope,S̶̲̥̅Ơ̴̴̴̴̴̴͡ dat Ɣõu̶̲̥̅̊ will not be among of jack of all trade, master of non!

My frend, go for ur bsc in radiograghy or better stl, do a radiography tech diploma in Col. Of Health Tecccch since u need licence for a private practise.
Most rad diagnostic cntres are runnd by uncertified personels so thats it.

brother, it,s better you Chanel that energy towards something else, in Nigeria, if u aint a DR, then it,s gona be real difficult for you to survive any paramedic field..there is so much favoritism in that field..as an Anatomist, you should know what am sayn, since u r in a dead end already, why lock your self up on it....why not go fr a DE to enroll in MBBS, or digress a little, to another field, ie if u must acquire another degree.

You see that's the problem with Nigeria.How can you give an advice to someone on an issue u are uninformed about with such certainty.An issue that involves the person's life.I would think that as a medical student you would have internalized the practice of researching before counselling.What if the guy forms a far-reaching judgement based on your clearly uninformed and prejudiced input.At least next time when speaking of issues you are not sure of add a caveat that will enable the person know that you are not sure.That's the stuff that maturity is made of.

My advice still stays as it is; the op should go for medicine if he wishes, then pass primaries and specialize in radiology....

A radiographer can never do the work of a radiologist. A radiographer can never diagnose disease, they may interpret xrays and ultrasound scans, but they can NEVER help the clinician in diagnosing disease!!!

No sane hospital in the world would commit such monstrosity!!!!

Fine, I made some mistakes in my original post, but i still believe its better the op makes it as a radiologist than as a radiographer in this harsh nigerian environment.

And if you noticed, the guy that quoted me first talked to me as if I'm some kid from the other block.... We don't know where we come from, this is a faceless forum, so let's talk to each other with decorum and respect.....
