aint holdin fort for nobody here.am jst analyzin dis issue as a nigerian.now lets look at dis issues carefully.is it dat d name aint sexy to d ears or dere is sumtin else?dere is aau ekpoma.abu zaria.oau ife.etc. though mko aint frm lag.but we can all agree dat lag is d frontrunner of d june 12 strugle.dis man n his wife were both murdered on dis same soil +most yorubas seems to speak abt his strugle in 1 accord.how cum dis anger?it only states one tin i wuldnt want to mention. if it was named after an hausa man i wuld understand d agitation.i tink yoruba leaders shuld b bold to come out on tv to tell nigerians y dey tink renaming is rong.instead of talkin in whispers.naija is a complicated country. 1 Like |

When U proudly say I am Ibo, Yoruba, Hausa, Ijaw etc! U r simply identifying with a brand. Nigeria is brand, so is America, Dubai etc. Let them fight for their BRAND!!! The brand name is ofcos part of d deal. Even d institution ur degree bears wins u some points!! It might take another 50 years for dis new name 2 gain d recognition d old name has already established. UNILAG is a win win Brand!! Aluta Continua my people! If GEJ were 2 be in ur shoes, he wld have done same. 1 Like |

Naughty ignoramusses, are they going to be in that school forever??instead of them to quietly face their studies, graduate and go and make something of their lives. Who cares it's changed to MAU or MOI MOI,as long as they get quality, affordable education and graduate on time, they should thank their stars and not take to the streets like a bunch of visionless irressponsible teenagers to protest ephemeral decisions like their school's name change |

Now I think this is begining to take another dimension. What exactly is the fuss here. I mean this students don't get it. Are they worried about the man's character or the fact they can't been seen as MAU babes, the latter looks dumb to me. Abeg this should not be about some stoopid ego boost, if they want to protest it should be based on substance not this childish reason. |

The real problem I think stems from the fact that most of these students were in diapers during the June 12 struggle. Thus, their inability to recognise the bearer of their new skul name. Awon omo yen kere gan! |

jeffizy: The real problem I think stems from the fact that most of these students were in diapers during the June 12 struggle.Lets be sincere and call a spade a spade. The real reason behind the strong opposition to the renaming of UniLag has more to do with the character of the man whose name was used. I refuse to fall for all that shout about UniLag being a brand bla bla bla. . . Abiola does not deserve the honour of being named after a reputable school like UniLag. He was a politician who rode on the back of a tiger and eventually ended up in the belly of the tiger. June 12, in the real sense was not about Abiola but democracy and the real brave Nigerians that died defending the mandate they Nigerians gave to him, Abiola who unfortunately bailed out of the country when ordinary Nigerians were dying en mass fighting and defending the man. I have little respect for the man on that basis I believe that is the true reasons people are against the name change above any other thing else. 2 Likes |
