The federal government may require about N20.6 trillion to generate adequate power supply in the country, the assistant general consumer services, Kano electricity business company, Alhaji Abdulazee Amoo has said.

Disclosing this at a public sensitization forum on Multi year tariff order (MYTO) which was held at Federal secretariat Dutse, said the federal government wants to partner with the private sector because government alone cannot fund the sector.

The assistant general manager explained that government realized the need for investors from within and outside the country to invest in the power sector in order to compliment the government efforts in restoring steady power supply in the country.

Alhaji Amoo further explained that under the new tariff of power sector, the life line or lower customers will enjoy subsidy, adding that meter maintenance fees as well as estimation billing has been revoked under the new tariff..

Said he “ The national electricity regulatory commission (NERC) has directed power holding company to ensure that they register all power consumers in the country within the next 18 months.

Commending the Jigawa office of NOA, Alhaji Amoo said the public sensitization forum was part of the enlightenment campaign to sensitize the public on the new tariff.

In her keynote address, the state director of NOA, Hajiya Tani Umar said the multi-year tariff order popularly known as MYTO was a regulation that comes into force in 2008.

According to her, Nigerians need to understand that the new electricity bill system or MYTO was necessary so as to provide adequate and steady power supply to the country.
