alj harem: Another Air Mishap Averted In Abuja As Runway Lights Went Off

Barely one week after the fatal air crash involving Dana Air in Lagos, another air mishap was narrowly averted yesterday at the NnamdiAzikiwe Airport, Abuja when the run way lights went off, thus making it impossible for planes to either take off or land.

LEADERSHIP WEEKEND learnt late last night that the development led to the re-routing of all Abuja-bound planes to Lagos.

Specifically, Lufthansa flight that took off from Abuja to Malabo, earlier in the day was routed to Lagos. Also, Air France and British Airways were rerouted, thus leaving many passengers stranded.

Efforts to reach the minister of Aviation, Stella Oduah or her aides were unsuccessful at the time of going to press.
I pray that we will not wake up one day to learn gorvernance in Nigeria have been handed over to chinese

LEADERSHIP WEEKEND however learnt that contract to refurbish the runway lights had been awarded but the inability of the company to complete the job at 5 pm yesterday warranted the re-routing.

Jakumo: Failed runway lights would prevent landings, but aircraft could still take off under the illumination of their own multiple high-intensity floodlights.

NICE SUBMISSION.

TAKE-OFF POSSIBLE.

MMIA WOULD BE CONGESTED BY NOW.

Another Okija: The runway lights were being fixed and the contractor couldnt finish on-time so the planes were diverted to lagos..

Thats safety!!

Fhuck the OP for that misleading topic.

Actually, you are not very informed although the writer of the article too didn't give a detailed report. Abuja airport runway lights have been faulty for months. A few months ago when the House of Reps. Committee on Aviation visited the airport these lights were being repaired with the assurance that they would be fixed latest the next day. So my friend there is no safety there. Let us not be blinded by sentiments.

Why shouldn't we blame the govt?
After the whole country mourned for 3 days about a very recent plane crash, we expect the govt to enable ALL measures in forestalling any future mishaps as regarding planes and crashes,
but an incompetent govt gave the job to an incompetent contractor.
Well, thank God there was no need for emergency landing otherwise...
It makes we wonder; can a mother who recently lost a child allow the rest to wander out of her sight?
This govt is too negligent!
If all hands had been on deck, then no stone would have been left unturned.
Remember this is the same aviation sector, can we say we have learned nothing from last Sunday?

Why
curse the OP! Do you think the situation was well-handled? Why were passengers stranded and planes being re-routed? At what time did they start the re-routing?

It'd only in Nigeria you would hear

"t contract to refurbish the runway lights had been awarded but the inability of the company to complete the job at 5 pm yesterday warranted the re-routing.

If they knew they couldn't finish ahead of schedule, why take on the job? Why not work your way through the night and use the alternate runway i.e. if there's one? I thought maintenance/engineering crews work midnight so as to avoid interruption of business activity in the day? GEJ cabinet needs serious reshuffling.

It's not their fault.tongue They have become so used to mediocrity and ineptitude to the extent that their own mindset is now less than mediocre in terms of expectations.

Yet some ediot is bound to come on here and "blame the whiteman" for this now instead of their own people's lackadaisical attitude to things.

The initial title read 'Another crash averted as blackout causes flights to divert to lagos'..

How was that title not misleading!! Apparently, they had an agreement with a contractor to finish the job by a specific time and for whatever reason the ob wasnt completed and the airport decided to divert all pre-scheduled arrivals to lagos, how was that a 'CRASH SITUATION"?!

I hate when we over exaggerate a title just to gather traffic and get people to curse at Jonathan..

Dude like seriously?! Is that your best twist?!

We are referring to the article of this thread... The O.P was deliberately misleading with the title of the thread.. I don't care if the darn runway was riddled with potholes prior to now.. His title made it seem like a plane almost crashed before it was averted and thats misleading...
