Committee Members Harassed As Security Operatives Investigate Call Logs... by drnoel: 4:15pm On Jun 16, 2012
SECURITY operatives are reportedly analysing the call logs of some members of the House of Representatives’ ad-hoc committee that probed the fuel subsidy scam over alleged misdemeanour.

Saturday Tribune learnt that the action was prompted by complaints by more oil companies allegedly found culpable by the committee that other committee members were compromised.

According to the source, the oil chiefs were stunned that the House resolved at its emergency session on Friday in Abuja to turn the heat on two oil marketers over alleged misdemeanour rather than going after all the committee members that were reportedly compromised.

Consequently, some oil marketers were said to be preparing to open more cans of worms on alleged high level of compromises by the committee members.

The House had, specifically resolved to reverse its recommendation on Synopsis Enterprises Limited and Zenon Petroleum and Gas Limited, which it earlier deleted from a list of oil companies that obtained Foreign Exchange [FOREX], but allegedly failed to import petroleum products.

Saturday Tribune learnt that the resolution of the House on the bribery scam incensed some oil marketers, particularly because of the failure of the House to probe its members who alleged collected bribes besides Honourable Lawan Farouk, who purportedly owned up to receiving $624,000 as bribes.

There were reports that a vocal principal member of the House was equally involved in the scam having been offered a sum of $3 million as bribes purportedly contributed by oil marketers, whereas it was only the alleged deals by Lawan and Secretary of the committee that leaked.

A source to some of the marketers hinted Saturday Tribune that just like a video clip of the alleged misdemeanour by Lawan was presented to security operatives, recorded conversations between other lawmakers who reportedly received bribes during the probe of the oil subsidy proceeds would also be released at the nick of time.

It was further gathered that the conversations between the lawmakers and the marketers through telephone, most essentially, had been relayed to security operatives who were said to have commenced investigating the lawmakers so fingered to authenticate the roles played by each of them.

The oil chiefs were allegedly angered that the House, during its sitting, gave an impression that it was being witch-hunted by the executive arm which it subtly claimed was the mastermind of the ordeals currently being faced by Lawan, rather than addressing the case of corruption involving some of its members.
