The Microsoft Surface tablet comes in two options, Windows RT and Windows 8 Pro.

Windows RT is the lightweight option, both physically and spec-wise.

Windows 8 Pro, is the obvious pro option, and is touted as a "full PC." It comes with a heftier weight (and likely pricetag):

Microsoft Surface comes with a sturdy, integrated kickstand and a SmartCover-esque cover, that features a fully functioning keyboard, with a trackpad. It connects with a "single magnetic click" that'll make it an ease to swap out (or just take off, if you'd rather).

"I can touch type on this as fast as I can type on any keyboard." said Microsoft's Michael Angiulo. Touch Cover comes in five colors - black, red, blue, and pink.

No. Real computers are more powerful. It is the battery life, portability and apps that make tablets preferred. I am looking forward to the desktop version of windows 8 too.

The Windows 8 tablets will be real computers. The android tablets are close, as they have a file system. The iPad can be annoying- a computer that makes u go thru loops just to attach a file to an email, not to mention absence of removable media support.

Can't wait to get the MS Surface Pro. Hope battery life will be decent - 6/7 hours is good enough for me.

i have been using a trial version of windows8 and its been so good. u can download a tiral version from microsoft site. but u beta av good internet speed.
For u to enjoy it u need to have 2gb of RAM.

I've been on the preview release already & i will say the OS is so sleek. But NOTE If you are an amateur to computer, windows 8 isnt for you else you are lost entirely. Tho very nice os but you wil be careful with it using a personal internet moderm cos some featurs in eat wil quickly erase ur internet bundles.

You are right man the apps is what makes it differs. For real the computer is more powerful. Tablets are for convinience n simplicity. They are more lighter that any PC.
Microsoft don't want Apple Inc. to go too far in the Tech market, just as Nitendo is trying to be in contention with Playstation. Go and see their new tablet game pad giving one two viewing options...
