dedeike: Once Again, the opposition has gone full circle in a failed bid to doctor the interesting media chat the President had with Nigeians. I have much respect for Yinka Odumakin as an activit. But it remains to be seen how this analyses can ever be said to be flowing from that media chat. I watched the media chat. First, Yinka proceeded on a faulty assumption that the President was talking about the Ribadu committe set up to monitor our oil revenue. No. What the president clearly said is that while he was an acting president, he had already directed Aganga to invite any globally reputable audit firm to investigate NNPC. The president said this in a bid to clear the air on his alleged plans to kill Lawan's report. He said that even far before the House Probe, he had already taken his own independent step to investigate the oil sector. Logically too, one of the major reasons for the removal of subsidy was to eliminate the cabal from feeding fat from oil subsidy. So does it make sense when people now reprobate to accuse the president from shielding the same cabal from Farouk.'s hammer? Somehow both the President and the masses have a common enemy in the cabal. The president sought to punish the cabal thru subsidy removal while the masses sought to punish the cabal thru the probes but unfortunately both efforts turned awry. Secondly, it is not also true that the president could not face live questions. He did face all the questions thrown at him confidently. He responded to the Brasil trip perfectly. He told about ongoing power reforms in summary. He talked about YOUWIN in response to a question by the caller. He explained the reason behind the sack of Azazi. Please let's try to be objective. We must not kill this man because our preferred presidential candidates lost to him.don't mind them. That is how they go about deceiving people. Yinka who is saying all these rubbish cannot even tell us where Fashola's assets was publicly declared in any media even if it's SAHARREPORTERS. Hypocrites! |

My humble suggestion to mr President-go learn how to present your speeches. It is obvious that the major problem mr president has is how to express himself with proper diction.Oratory ability is one of the attributes of any great leader. The presidency is a big office and should not be occupied by people who are still learning. |

I am not a fan of Jonathan, never voted for him because I just don't understand PDP (no clear manifesto or directive). However, he is my president and as such I must condole him with respect. The man may lack the charisma but he does have a heart to make this country better. Nigerians want a quick fix, we deserve a quick fix because we have suffered for so long. Uncertainly, a quick fix cannot resolve the numerous issues our beloved country is facing. As desperate as I want to see rapid changes in all sector of the economy, I do not want to enjoy now and suffer in the future. The President has asked Nigerians to give him 2 more years. I think we should give him the benefit of that. However, what I never liked about the media chat was his effrontery and insolence on declaration of assets. This is a President who affirmed to Nigerians that he wants to fight corruption, while not do so by exemplification. PS: In the case of Boko Haram, history should be our teacher. It took the British Government more than a decade to squash the IRA terrorists and the US a decade to finally get the crème de la crème of terrorism. 1 Like |

Common if you know much about leadership, you should know that a leader never stops learning. As a matter of fact nobody ever stops learning. Jonathan is learning and he is learning very fast. He was quick to inform the media reps. that he doesn't want to say anything about 2015 in order not to heat up the polity. He also made mention that as President whatever he says can resonate across the country. That is a fast learner to me compared to when he just entered into office and was talking like it doesn't matter. True, he lacks confidence in speech making. Well who doesn't, even Obasanjo, IBB and co. always read from a well prepared script. It takes training. |

There is really nothing Mr. President would say, that some Nigerians would not find fault in. I really want to ask, what is the job of the ministers and public officer holders in curbing crime and peaceful running of this country. I understand that some individuals have been appointed to do or carry out some operations in different areas of the economy and the president will only make sure that these things are done. Nigerian problems have accumulated since independence till today, even the Buhari and others that want to rule us again failed this country and are the major players of the corruption in this country, your so called Tunde Bakare should remember that he is a servant of God and should be truthful to it, cos he would be held accountable for misleading other Nigerians. You don't expect GEJ to solve the problem of the country within a twinkle of an eye, we don't we even mention names of past presidents and their performances, GEJ is jus started as a president and everyone blames him for problems caused by others. It is just so unfair. |

I heard Odumakin say Mr. President's response on the state of maidugri airport reflects to the world that he cannot maintain airports. Another deception. This govt has done in one year what others could not do in 4 years in the aviation sector. They're fixing all the international airports in Nigeria. I went to Abuja airport on Monday and was amazed at the level of work going on on both wings of the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport. For almost 6 months, the Enugu airports hve been shut down to traffic duevto ongoing rehabilitation work. Kano international airport is also undergoing renovation. Same for Lagos. Where are we so uncharitable in our criticism of this govt? |

As Vice President, he had declared his assets PUBLICLY, because the President ask him to because the President believed in declaring publicly and that is his own principle, but, as the substantive President, as a matter of principle, he doesnt believe in declaring assets PUBLICLY. The law allows him to declare his assets to Code of Conduct Bureau, which he had done, any newspaper or individual can go and cross check especially when the Free Information law is in place now. Mr President didnt erred in saying so. realwale:Oga it is obvious you have not been following the goings-on in Nigeria's polity either. Aganga invited KPMG, an audit firm to audit NNPC and PPPRA and they submitted their reports to the FG through the finance minister who then was Aganga. Though the FG did not make the report public but they obviously acted on it by removing the subsidy regime Mr Bakare and his Friend Odumakin so vehemently want FG to instal. That report roped business men including the ones that are card carrying members of your darling opposition parties. Where did you think the claims of NNPC mismanaging funds in the tune of 1,6 trillion naira came from if not KPMG report? Most of what Lawal's report contains have already been revealed by the KPMG report. Although it was clear the FG was reluctant to go public with it, however, the petroleum minister blamed it on the fact that she was not given a copy of the report. Whatever the reason, one fact is established here; the FG actually was the first to initiate any probe, investigation or auditing of the oil industry, Mr Odumakin can take his twisted tales to the pope. People should learn to criticize constructively and objectively, deliberately finding loopholes only shows insincerity and desperation to propagate a dishonest agenda. I too have not been impressed by GEJ's over all performance but I still think there is room for improvement and people, especially the SW critics should tone down on the way they politicize every action the man makes....na wa o 1 Like |

Re: The President Lied! By Yinka Odumakin by rhymz(m): 10:57am On Jun 26, 2012 |
jt2010:Oga google is your friend, go make your research before typing ignorance in stupifying confidence. After Umaru quench, Jonathan and his Deputy Sambo were reported to have submitted their asset declaration form on may 27, 2010 to CCB as the constitution demanded. If the leadership of CCB refuses to make the content of the forms public, how is that Mr President's fault? Mind you, the CCB has already pointed out some difficult legal technicalities of the law to defend its stance on the refusal to make it public. For starters, the Bureau according to the constitution is not bound by stipulations of the FOI acts. Also, the FOI act is even weak an instrument for use to force the bureau to release the contents of the forms cos the act contains up to 10 paragraphs and many clauses that exempt access to certain kind of information that it is almost useless to its importance. So before you write your argument be sure to do a little background check on what is it you are blabbing about, instead of blabbing in confidence of a dunce. |

Please list GEJ milestones in his first year and extrapolate to the remaining 3 years, then convince us that he deserves the office he is occupying, when within one year he has inflicted untold hardship on us. By my own assessment, these are GEJ performance scorecard in the last one year. 1. punished Nigerians by increasing fuel price - I can no longer drive to office cos i cant sustain fueling my car daily, previously i spend 1k daily (my car is 6 plug) and consumes average of 15 litre to and from my office daily. with fuel being sold at 97 i would spend N1,500 daily. The resultant effect is that i have to take public transport and use my car only on weekends. And do you know the consequences, sometimes , i get drenched if it rains, am stained even before i get to work in the morning cos public buses are not well maintained. I know someone would argue that in advanced countries even their big men like CEOs patronize public transport, but the question is are the buses operated in same ways? 2. Power supply has gone awry and we are now even talking of higher tarrif. From the begining of this year, i spent average of 2k weekly on fueling my gen, whereas in the past about 3-4k would do me in a month. 3. Prices of foodstuff has gone up in the market. Finally, its not only Bakare who is accountable to God, you are , Iam, and Mr President is. We are all accountable to God, when we see black and we say its white cos of our selfish interest. when we are supposed to talk and we keep silent, when we are supposed to say yes but say no. rhymz: Mr. Internet warrior, learn to be civil in public forum even if you need to impress your pay-master. Anyway, to the main issue, its seem maybe the President has declare but it is still very vague. My point of concern about the issue of asset declaration is that Mr. President should have taking the opportunity at the president media chat to clear the air on the issue of asset declaration by referring us to the CCB to confirm its asset. As a government that has proclaimed a transformation agenda and wanting to fight corruption, it is important that President Jonathan leads by example, and one way he can do that is to be seen to be transparent in its dealing, just as Mr. President clearly acknowledge that perception account. Clearly Mr. President is the head of government, its is responsibility to ensure that all aim of government obey the law and constitution of Nigeria. From my google search on Mr. President declaration of Asset, I only see articles of CCB not releasing Mr. President asset form which make me assume that Mr. President may have declare its asset but you can never be sure because Mr. President or the Chairman of CCB has not official inform us if Mr. President has declare its asset (mind you, na Mr. President they appoint the Chairman thus subject to Senate confirmation). So assuming that Mr. President has truly declare its asset and CCB refuse to release the document to the public as stipulate by law. "Paragraph 3, Part I of the Third Schedule to the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, as amended, provides that the Code of Conduct Bureau shall have power to: (a) receive declarations by public officers made under paragraph 12 of Part I of the Fifth Schedule to this Constitution; (b) examine the declarations in accordance with the requirements of the Code of Conduct or any law; (c) retain custody of such declarations and make them available for inspection by any citizen of Nigeria on such terms and conditions as the National Assembly may prescribe. Paragraph 11 of Part I of the Fifth Schedule to the Constitution provides that: (1) Subject to the provisions of this Constitution, every public officer shall within three months after the coming into force of this Code of Conduct or immediately after taking office and thereafter -- (a) at the end of every four years; and (b) at the end of his term of office, submit to the Code of Conduct Bureau a written declaration of all his properties, assets, and liabilities and those of his unmarried children under the age of eighteen years". Mind you, you said Mr. President Declare its asset May 27, 2010 when i know for sure that that was during the death of the late President Yar'adua and you fall to mention that Mr. President also later take the oath of office May 29, 2011 and fall to declare it asset as required my law. But CCB only reason of not releasing Mr. President Asset Declaration form was said to that the FOI Act can’t make us release Jonathan’s assets declaration, says CCB. http://www.dailytrust.com.ng/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=155746:foi-act-cant-make-us-release-jonathans-assets-declaration-says-ccb&catid=1:news&Itemid=2 But it is clear that Nigeria constitution clearly allow the public to request and obtain Mr. President Asset Declaration from CCB. Even the FOI Act itself clearly allows such. "Pursuant to the aforementioned constitutional provisions and section 2 of the Freedom of Information Act 2011, which states that “Notwithstanding anything contained in any other Act, Law or Regulation, the right of any person to access or request information, whether or not contained in any written form, which is in the custody or possession of any public official, agency or institution howsoever described, is hereby established”, Looking at this scenario, its is obvious that Mr. President body language and statement is what CCB chairman is acting on if we need to use reason because right now, CCB is not following Nigeria constitution which also direct them to release the asset declaration of any Public office including Mr. President to any member of the public upon request but possible Mr. President Principle on the issue is not allow them if only Mr. President has even declare its asset. |
