Developed by the ambitious and entrepreneurial University of Hertfordshire in collaboration with leading City institution Futex, it's the first internationally recognised post-graduate degree in the exciting and financially rewarding career of futures trading.

Taking place onsite at Futex's state-of-the-art Woking, UK offices, the course is divided into three core stages, commencing with an intensive twelve weeks on the trading floor. A truly integrated degree, in Teaching Blocks 1 and 2 you will be in the unique position of learning the theoretical side of the global markets from the University of Hertfordshire's expert tutors – and then putting this straight into practice on the trading floor.

Trading Floor Weeks
Incorporating key elements of Futex’s tried and tested Trading Floor Training Programme, your course begins with a combination of formal teaching and assessment, advice, simulated trading and reflecting. This includes daily seminars on a wide range of essential subjects including:

•Cash and Derivative Markets
•Macroeconomics
•Technical Analysis
•Trading Psychology
•How to trade the Market Depth
•Price Action, Volume and Order Flow
•Money Management

From your own fully-equipped trading desk you will gradually learn to trade the global financial markets with consistency, control and precision monitored in real-time by our experienced risk management team. Exercises are designed to get you to grips with your chosen market in an organised fashion, so ensuring rapid and effective progression throughout the course. You will eventually manage your trading day from start to finish by implementing your documented routine, operating within set risk parameters.

Although some of this will be on a simulator, it will be treated like the live market and our traders and mentors will be on hand every day to discuss your performance, highlight areas for you to work on and provide solutions to the trading challenges you will face. During this time you will also get to know the University of Hertfordshire tutors who will be guiding you through the Teaching Blocks as they help you to start developing your fundamental skills.

A real test of your trading abilities, you will develop a deep understanding of principal areas of trading, become an expert at interpreting Price Action and use Futex’s vast experience to help build your own ‘edge’ in the global financial markets.

Teaching Block 1

The emphasis of Block 1 is the study of Markets, Institutions and Policy. The content has been developed to focus on the precise needs of futures traders and is structured to provide a unique and exciting opportunity for the integration of academic study and practice. It begins with an intensive teaching week led by the University of Hertfordshire tutors who will teach key syllabus areas. At the end of this week you will receive a work programme outlining everything you need to complete; this will also summarise readings and assessments.

Five timetabled tutorial integration days – involving both University and Futex tutors – will be used to look at pivotal areas and reflect on the interface of theory and practice. Private study time will allow you to complete your work programme, assessments and an online research methods module. The research area of your dissertation will also be identified.

Teaching Block 2

Block 2 is primarily for the study of The Global Economy in Context. Following the same pattern as Block 1 in terms of preparing for the module, you will also continue to gather data for your dissertation.

Upon completion of both teaching blocks you will write up your dissertation. During this time both University of Hertfordshire and Futex staff will give supervisory feedback onsite. You will then be given approximately two months after the end of Block 2 to hand in your dissertation.

Exceptional performance during the 12-month programme will result in Futex offering students a full-time trading position with full company financial backing.

Course schedule
With two intakes - starting 1 October 2012 and 14 January 2013 - the course is hosted by Futex in Woking, with regular onsite sessions run by tutors from the University of Hertfordshire. The 52 weeks are broken down as follows:

WEEKS 45-52 - DISSERTATION
The final eight weeks of the course will be dedicated to dissertation completion. During this period you will have access to Futex's trading floor, tutors and University of Hertfordshire lecturers. A graduation ceremony will be held later in the year at the University.
