Wow beautiful thread. Welldone mr spyder and the relevant mods for keeping this going. Chime has done very well and as Nwadiana Enugu, I am both very impressed with and proud of him ...each time I get into 04 I see something new here and there. Its funny how he's among the top 5 best performing governors if not the best (especially given the comparatively paltry monthly fed allocation the state receives as well as a comparatively low IGR portfolio) yet you'll NEVER find him blowing his trumpets on the media or anywhr. Silent acheiver -much unlike his immediate predecessor, the nkanu fraudster who bled our beloved state to the bone while publicizing his numerous white elephant fraudulent projects constantly. I remember say that time we no hear word for am; 'ebe-ano' this, 'to god be the glory' that + the quartered thugs at presidential with their numerous extra-judicial killing of govt critics/opponents. Substandard Marlum construction company and their shabby projects nko? Smh ...we been really hear am. To be honest if I had my way I'd install Chime for yet another term. What a visionary! In its one year of operation, the Akanu Ibiam International Airport records 16,500 international passengers. The Comptroller of immigration Enugu State Command, Bashir Ismail, calls it “a great achievement with just one airline”. Even as the Muslim pilgrims, for the first time, are getting ready to be airlifted from the airport to Saudi Arabia. Of course we need a true cosmopolitan airport and city in the heart of Igboland.

It's no longer news that Ghana bested Nigeria in the Ease of Doing Business study 2014.
The World Bank has now released further info on how each of the 36 states fared and it's disappointing to realise all SE states did badly.
Ogun, Ekiti, Rivers, Cross River and Niger states emerged as the top 5 easiest places to do business.
It is noteworthy that in previous years, Ogun was ranked was very poorly but has now staged a comeback.
Meanwhile, of the 9 states that made processes more exacting and rigorous, Abia managed to make the list from the SE.
The rest of the SE states have remained in status quo...no innovations, just sitting out the time.

Enugu state needs to do something urgently. Potential investors always begin with a quick internet search, and the internet suggests 5 states over the rest.
Recently, Enugu state was adjudged to have the easiest property acquisition and registration protocol after Abuja, so I hope concerned authorities see that accolade as an incentive to do more.

The Federal Government has announced plans to establish
a 1000 mega watts coal power plant in Enugu state.

The President, Goodluck Jonathan, who disclosed this in
Enugu, said the plant is expected to help address the
epileptic power situation in the country.

Jonathan, who was represented by Vice President Namadi
Sambo, said the plant would complement other electricity
projects being executed by the Federal Government and
private investors in the area and ensure that Enugu and the
rest of the South-east region enjoyed improved electricity
supply.

The Federal Government had a couple of weeks ago said the
country is capable of generating up to 30 per cent of its
energy needs from its coal resources using environmental-
friendly clean technology.

Jonathan said the country is endowed with abundant coal
reserves of the required quality necessary for power
generation.

To this end, the Federal Government signed a Memorandum
of Understanding (MoU) on Coal to Power for the
development of Ezinmo Coal Block in Enugu and a 1000
megawatts coal power generating plant.

The MoU was signed between the Ministry of Mines and
Steel Development and HTG-Pacific Energy Consortium for
the development of the Ezinmo Coal Bricks.

According to Jonathan, “Nigeria is endowed with abundant
coal reserve of the required quality necessary for power
generation and there is no reason why we should not
explore the sector.”

He added that the signing of the MoU is a sysbol of the
growing synergy between the Ministries of Mines and Steel
Development and Power to attract investors to coal-fired oil
generation opportunities.

“We expect the co-operation to continue until we get the
desired destination in terms of our power needs,’’ he said.
Also speaking, Minister of Power, Professor Chinedu Nebo,
argued that the MoU was on the utilisation of the mining
license, granted by the Federal Government for the Ezinmo
coal block.

According to him, the license was granted to an indigenous
company with a Chinese partner, HTG-Pacific Energy
Consortium, for the exploitation and mining of the coal block at Ezinmo.

Continuing, the Minister noted that Ezinmo was a very large
coal block which ranged from Enugu State to Benue State.
Nebo said the signing of the MoU, would be followed by
Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) that would authorise the
investors to build the coal-fired power plant.

^^^ I hope this comes to fruition, and doesn't die a stillbirth. This election season it's hard to know what projects are meant to be carried out and those meant to play politics. And the gullibility of Igbo isn't helping matters at all.

This MOU was signed since AUG last year. The company is owned by Davido's Dad. About last month or so his bosom friend Aliko Dangote said he's going to start importing coal from South Africa to power his cement factories in Nigeria (Meanwhile our coal dey waste)

I guess he's yet to get international funding for the business because I read that he wants to borrow money from foreign banks.

^^^The new terminal at AIIA is the only big-ticket project that GEJ has brought to the entire South East! Every other thing is just promises, promises and more promises.......either that or he builds some cheap-arsse low-budget project and makes a song and dance about it: like that useless river port at Onitsha, or when he came down to Onitsha more than two years ago to declare Anambra oyel producing, yet up till now they've seen fuc/kall from said status!

A world-class project is yet to be brought to the South East; kinda like others located or brought refineries, sea ports, world-class institutions or multinational corporations to their regions when they held the reigns of power!

All the major expressways in the South East are crying out for proper reconstruction and not the patch-patch work FERMA is currently engaged in (like is presently being done with the Lagos-Ibadan expressway).......all federal roads in Abia are a complete mess!

Vote Jonathan because you don"t have any other choice.GEJ is very heartless and cunning but voting those men you mentioned above is also a death sentence to S.East and to all SOUTHERN in general...so lets vote him and remain as we are.

That's why I asked this question.
the other opponents are nor better.
We have tasted buhari in the 80s, nothing. Atiku was VP on the 2000s, nothing.
We have to remain where we are at least, instead of waking up one morning to hear that they have stopped work on Enugu airport or that they are no longer talking about rehabilitating eastern rail lines or fed roads.

You know I don't like open drainage but you tried to give a wrong impression that all the roads constructed in Uyo, Calabar and Asaba have closed drainages. The only Governor that constructed 100% closed drainages even in slums is Amaechi. The rest just did it along major roads and some like Akpabio Orji and Rochas constructed without drainages at all in some instances.

I thought they said he is the consensus candidate. Meanwhile;
Fresh crisis hit the Enugu State chapter of
the Peoples Democratic Party
(PDP) on Tuesday as its former National
Auditor, Mr Ray Nnaji returned to the Federal
High Court, Enugu, asking it to determine the
authentic leadership of the party in the
state.
Nnaji, who on Monday sought the joining of
the party’s national chairman Adamu Muazu,
national secretary Adewale Oladipo and
South-East zonal chairman, Austin
Akobundu in the suit, warned the Vita Abba
led state executive to steer clear of further
actions on 2015 polls until the matter was
resolved.
DailyPost reports that there have been
dissenting voices since Hon. Ifeanyi
Ugwuanyi was announced as the party’s
consensus candidate for the 2015 guber
polls.
Senator Ayogu Eze and other guber
aspirants have expressed displeasure over
the emergence of the consensus candidate.
It could be re-called that Nnaji filed the suit
first in 2008 after a parallel congress of the
party in Enugu, which produced him and
Abba.
The matter could not be resolved following
an appeal against the ruling of the court on
preliminary objection on the jurisdiction of
the court to entertain the matter.
Later in 2010, the suit was adjourned sine
die, pending the determination and hearing
of the appeal filed by Abba.
Abba was said to have withdrawn the appeal
and same struck out by the court.
Following the development, Nnaji had
approached the court for the re-listing of the
matter, which was formerly in court 1 and
the Court on Monday gave its approval and
transferred the matter to court 2 for hearing.
Although no date has been fixed for the
commencement of hearing on the suit, Nnaji
stated that the matter had been delayed due
to the absence of a Judge at the Court 1 of
the federal high court, Enugu.
The last Judge was moved in February this
year.
He told Journalists that until the matter was
resolved, all the claims by anybody against
2015 in the state was not genuine, insisting
that he decided to give life to the matter
because “Governor Chime and his Chief of
Staff, Ifeoma Nwobodo are messing up PDP
in the state”.
He said: “The issue of political structure of
the Peoples Democratic
Party (PDP) in Enugu state has not been
resolved; the matter was sometime
suspended because there was an appeal by
Vita Abba, who lost at the federal high court
challenging the jurisdiction of the court.
“Along the line, he withdrew the application
and it was struck out. Now the matter has
resumed at Court 1, there is no Judge in
court one presently and we had to apply for
transfer to Court 2 which has been approved
and a date is being awaited. The matter was
filed in 2008 and adjourned sine die in
2010, pending an appeal withdrawn and
struck out.
“I want to tell you that the matter is alive
and whoever is doing anything while the
matter is alive is wasting his time. If
anybody is doing anything now on the
ground that there has been another
congress since then, he should go and read
Omehia Vs Amaechi and know what
Supreme Court says when a matter is
pending in court”.
On the purported endorsement of Hon.
Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi as consensus
governorship candidate, Nnaji said: “The
party constitution did not say you should
select. If Chime thinks he can hand pick
anybody, he is making a great mistake
because the issue of the party structure in
Enugu state is yet to be resolved by the
court. All that they are doing is to cause
problems in the state. They want people to
believe that something is happening when
nothing is happening. Chime and his Chief
of Staff have killed Enugu politics and what
they are doing now is killing PDP and
pretending they are helping the party.”
It could be recalled that parallel congress of
the party in 2008 had produced Nnaji and
Abba.
While Nnaji faction was loyal to the former
Governor Chimaroke Nnamani, Abba’s
faction was loyal to Sullivan Chime.
Nnaji’s faction, which then had the support
of the Ahmadu Ali led national executive, fell
out of favour when Prince Vincent Ogbulafor
emerged the national chairman of the party
and started relating with the Abba led
executive.
Feeling cheated, Nnaji and his executive had
gone to court to assert its stand as the
authentic leadership of the party in the
state.

I don't care about Vita Abba but for the love of God Gill Nnaji should not be allowed to go back to the senate biko.

If there's an award for the most useless senator in the senate Chambers, that award will go to him. Right from his time in House of reps, I've never seen him contribute anything on the floor of the house. With all due respect this distinguish Senator should just retire from politics.

first in 2008 after a parallel congress of the
party in Enugu, which produced him and
Abba.
The matter could not be resolved following
an appeal against the ruling of the court on
preliminary objection on the jurisdiction of
the court to entertain the matter.
Later in 2010, the suit was adjourned sine
die, pending the determination and hearing
of the appeal filed by Abba.
Abba was said to have withdrawn the appeal
and same struck out by the court.
Following the development, Nnaji had
approached the court for the re-listing of the
matter, which was formerly in court 1 and
the Court on Monday gave its approval and
transferred the matter to court 2 for hearing.
Although no date has been fixed for the
commencement of hearing on the suit, Nnaji
stated that the matter had been delayed due
to the absence of a Judge at the Court 1 of
the federal high court, Enugu.
The last Judge was moved in February this
year.
He told Journalists that until the matter was
resolved, all the claims by anybody against
2015 in the state was not genuine, insisting
that he decided to give life to the matter
because “Governor Chime and his Chief of
Staff, Ifeoma Nwobodo are messing up PDP
in the state”.
He said: “The issue of political structure of
the Peoples Democratic
Party (PDP) in Enugu state has not been
resolved; the matter was sometime
suspended because there was an appeal by
Vita Abba, who lost at the federal high court
challenging the jurisdiction of the court.
“Along the line, he withdrew the application
and it was struck out. Now the matter has
resumed at Court 1, there is no Judge in
court one presently and we had to apply for
transfer to Court 2 which has been approved
and a date is being awaited. The matter was
filed in 2008 and adjourned sine die in
2010, pending an appeal withdrawn and
struck out.
“I want to tell you that the matter is alive
and whoever is doing anything while the
matter is alive is wasting his time. If
anybody is doing anything now on the
ground that there has been another
congress since then, he should go and read
Omehia Vs Amaechi and know what
Supreme Court says when a matter is
pending in court”.
On the purported endorsement of Hon.
Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi as consensus
governorship candidate, Nnaji said: “The
party constitution did not say you should
select. If Chime thinks he can hand pick
anybody, he is making a great mistake
because the issue of the party structure in
Enugu state is yet to be resolved by the
court. All that they are doing is to cause
problems in the state. They want people to
believe that something is happening when
nothing is happening. Chime and his Chief
of Staff have killed Enugu politics and what
they are doing now is killing PDP and
pretending they are helping the party.”
It could be recalled that parallel congress of
the party in 2008 had produced Nnaji and
Abba.
While Nnaji faction was loyal to the former
Governor Chimaroke Nnamani, Abba’s
faction was loyal to Sullivan Chime.
Nnaji’s faction, which then had the support
of the Ahmadu Ali led national executive, fell
out of favour when Prince Vincent Ogbulafor
emerged the national chairman of the party
and started relating with the Abba led
executive.
Feeling cheated, Nnaji and his executive had
gone to court to assert its stand as the
authentic leadership of the party in the
state.

Please, even if Sullivan hand picked a candidate, does he not deserve it?

What is wrong in Sullivan adopting a candidate of his choice? Does the fact that he's the governor stripe him of his citizenship right of voting and being voted for?

Is adoption of candidates not part of the American democracy, since nothing is valid to us unless the white man validates it.

Sullivan, by virtue of hard work remains the public opinion moulder and leader as far as Enugu is concerned. I have no problem with that because he worked for it.

The truth is that 90%of those who oppose Sullivan's choice are propelled by selfish ambition and not just for the love of the masses. The language of these individuals leaves much to be desired. It's a language of, if I can't get it, let us destroy the entire system, a language of violence.

During Obama's 1st term campaign, we heard of Kennedy family adopting him. Did such adoption make any difference to people's voting choice? I think it did.

Azikiwe adopted Jim Nwobodo, Onoh adopted Nwodo, Jim adopted Chimaroke, Chimaroke adopted not just Sullivan but every single candidate in both federal and state legislatures.

While all the adoptions were going on, heaven did not fall, how come people are now threatening fire and brimstone? Could Sullivan's personality of egbe bere ugo bere have contributed to it?

If I am correct, personalities like Jim and Okwy Nwodo were at the meeting where Ugwuanyi was adopted. So it is wrong to insinuate that Sullivan unilaterally hand picked a candidate.

There are many other parties that anyone who feels aggrieved can join in order to contest the general election. After all Okorocha contested against an incumbent and won. Invariably, people are still gonna vote at the general election.

So in my view I see nothing wrong in Sullivan adopting Ugwuanyi, he merely expressed a wish which the electorate are entitled to reject.

^ It's 'Abakpa' rather than 'Agbakpa'.
You need to get the spelling right so we don't mistake you for ndiofe.

Yes, Enugu has her fair share of slums. With rural-urban migration, it is inevitable that such slums will crop up to cater to immigrating persons who want accommodation on the cheap.
Abakpa is a village of the Nike people, and the trouble with such land is that it is owned piece by piece, square metre by square metre. As such, any Govt that attempts to raze the slum must be ready to spare no expense. To put things in perspective, when houses were demolished around Ozalla to give way for the Ozalla-Udi Highway, our neighbour's grandma was paid N3.5m to offset her expenses. Now, Abakpa is not on the outskirts but rather it sits on a choice area bordered by New Haven, Trans Ekulu, and is in fact the home of the 82 Division Army HQ. That's a lot of value in real estate.
Theroretically, I support that the place be razed and rebuilt, but can our government do that? The cost of buying back the land alone is daunting. Now add that to the cost of relocating the myriad of persons who own land there, even if such land is no larger than a square metre. And then the cost of rebuilding. Plus, the governor must be ready to wear the toga of "Heartless and Elitist". Abakpa is home to very many persons. It is probably the densest part of Enugu. Considering these, I think it is safer not to raze the area. The Gynecologists have a saying about some tumors : " if it's not symptomatic, leave it alone!"
