billante:Every Nigerian state is in debt. There was a thread like that one time. Lagos, Kano, Ogun were the champions in foreign debt, whereas Enugu and EbonyI made it to the 7 least indebted states. Like you, I was also at first skeptical of where all that infrastructure money was coming from, but certainly not foreign debt... The answer is prudence. 1 Like |

We are going to do a special feature on Enugu architecture today. Our special focus will be on Enugu tallest buildings. Skyscrappercity, here we come |
Re: Enugu, The Pride Of The East. by spyder880(m): 12:14pm On Jan 15, 2013 |
forget the usual suspects, the top contenders for tallest buildings are not even the usual suspects, a total outsider is trying to steal the show. The tallest house in Enugu may not even be in Enugu urban. |

I think Enugu government should think of developing a new city in the outskirts of Enugu that will house skyscrapers and business districts. That will give Enugu an International feel and put it on a pedestal to compete with other cities in the world. |

The enugu-abakiliki expressway dualization project is it a federal project or is it sullivan dat is handling it? |
Re: Enugu, The Pride Of The East. by SamMilla1(m): 1:35pm On Jan 15, 2013 |
Ozonna: Yep. This huge area is inbetween Awgu, Oji and Udi. The communities involced are Ihe Shikeaguma, Amoli and Agbudu from Awgu LGA. 3 autonomous communities from Achi in Oji River LGA and Umabi from Udi. A road is being constructed by State govt linking Ihe-Agbudu-Umabi all the way to the fence of the Federal road safety academy in Udi. It is a new road. A bridge is under construction in Agbudu too. This is about 15km of a new road and the taring has started already in Ihe. The Enugu state govt is not interested in announcing projects, thats what i can tell you. |
Re: Enugu, The Pride Of The East. by SamMilla1(m): 1:43pm On Jan 15, 2013 |
If you are also a regular user of 9th mile-Udi-Oji-Awka old road being constructed by sullivan, You will notice new roads going into some small villages left and right with gutters etc. I was with the Enugu state Commissioner for Agric last week.. He told me how Enugu handles projects... Forinstance, the new road linking Ihe-Agbudu and Umabi is being constructed because of the new pineapple juice company being built in that area. He said that he sketched the road, outlined the importance and submitted to the governor for approval. All the gov does is to approve and before you know it, Arab contractors and setraco will be all over the place with heavy machines. As soon as you finish your contract, you get your cash. |

Sam Milla: If you are also a regular user of 9th mile-Udi-Oji-Awka old road being constructed by sullivan, Sullivan has really raised the bar in state governance, the next governor here will under intense pressure to fill up the big shoe that will be left by Sullivan. |

Re: Enugu, The Pride Of The East. by spyder880(m): 2:26pm On Jan 15, 2013 |
billante: The enugu-abakiliki expressway dualization project is it a federal project or is it sullivan dat is handling it? Its not as I have any concrete facts to prove this but these are my assumptions; 1. The fact that Arab contractors, who are currently handling most of the projects in Enugu is doing this project suggests that it may be Enugu state paying. 2. The contract for the execution of Enugu-Abakaliki road is being handled by a different company now. 3. The Enugu-Abakaliki road is a one lane road while this one inside Enugu is a dual carriage road. 4. There is a need for the Enugu government to dualize this New haven end of Abakaliki road because of the traffic congestion there everyday. The road leads to the airport and if there are hold ups, governors and other high ranking citizens could be robbed or kidnapped on the traffic jam. With these few points, I think Sullivan paid for this project. |

billante: make una answer my question now......That road is a federal government wahala. It may not be finished in 10 years. I heard ADB was interested in financing the road some years ago. It's one of the more important Trans-African routes - from Lagos, Onitsha, through that road you can reach Kalahari in Namibia . |

billante: The enugu-abakiliki expressway dualization project is it a federal project or is it sullivan dat is handling it? You think Federal govt who has done nothing in the death trap at Lokpanta in Enugu-PH expressway will pay attention to Enugu-Abakiliki road which was motorable. That is Enugu state govt project judging by where the dualization project stopped. |
Re: Enugu, The Pride Of The East. by billante(m): 2:43pm On Jan 15, 2013 |
spyder880: with ur points its definitely not FG paying, maybe enugu state will get a refund later! that means the dualization wont reach to abakiliki..... |

Too bad! when they keep inflating project cost why wont it take 10 yrs to completes..... is it cheaper to build roads in enugu for projects to be easily completed in without long story.....i think sam milla said enugu govt pays after the road project has been completed....how is that possible? they dont even collect mobilization money or what? |

Re: Enugu, The Pride Of The East. by SamMilla1(m): 4:24pm On Jan 15, 2013 |
billante: No no no. No mobilization money. Those contractors work with banks. You present your case and prize, the state govt/you signs agreement with the banks. The banks sponsors and monitors progress and reports when the job is done. State govt signs cheques and contractors get their money. Banks get their shares and no middle man to settle in between. I think the problem with contracts in Nigeria is that the corrupt govt allocates it to senators, excos and godfathers. who in turn sends the contracts to their girlfriends, brothers, friends, who also finds someone else to do the work while he or she zooms of to london to shop. By the time money gets to the people who will do the actual job, it is no longer enough and everything is abandoned. Enugu state governor adopted a different style. Even you can go to governor Sullivan and submit a proposal to do one thing or another. He will send you to the bank to negotiate for sponsorship. He was sent from heaven 1 Like |

Sam Milla: You are right, every individual can see Sullivan after his aides will try to frustrate you initially, my friend had audience with the governor and the man told them he wants no kickback, he was just interested in the quality of the job. He has since completed the contract 2 years ago. |

Re: Enugu, The Pride Of The East. by spyder880(m): 5:31pm On Jan 15, 2013 |
billante: Truth is, I don't like discussing people's private lives but let me comment a little here. There is no evidence that Sullivan is not inside the government house, sipping chilled coffee while signing cheques in his office while the rest of us drives ourselves nuts. There is no evidence that Sullivan is sick or dead as variously reported, nobody has heard any audio interview where Sullivan, his family, his aides or any government official has come out to say he is sick or dead. There is no picture, or video recording which can help us objectively confirm his true state of health. Apart from rumors, no woman has ever come forward to say that Sullivan chased, abused, wooed or slept with her either publicly or privately. Apart from rumors, nobody has ever picked Sullivan from the gutter after he has drank so much as to lose his senses. I have not seen any picture of Sullivan clubbing, abi the guy dey club with spirits? Its not that I am saying he is a saint, but he is doing what we elected him to do, his actions are visibly solid and could be quantified while the rumours about him and his lifestyle are not. 2 Likes |

passion007: It's a place called Ajali, I think...Ajali Waterworks.Ajali water works is still the major water supply to enugu. Its on a hill in ezeagu(hope am correct) towards ninth nile corner, the distance is within the range of 30-80km from enugu. You will notice spots along onitsha enugu express way, where people fill up their water tankers. |
