It's not about knowing book. I'm serious this time. What do people plan to do once they are done with the CFA?
Re: CFA Candidates In The House by tanimola22: 9:47pm On Feb 29, 2012
^^^^^Some are already in employment. They simply continue their work.

well, since they've started, they ought to finish na.

Its those that are about to join them that need to be wary, methinks.

@ Ajanlekoko - to whom do we owe this great honour, that you so deign to visit our humble thread grin

Yamakuza has said it all

Its like a 3 year course, we have to finish. Cant wait tho, I want my life back embarassed

I guess most of the L2 / L3 guys are already in employment. Plus it still adds prospects. I got wind of an establishment looking seriously

for L2 holder, so its still revered (sort of undecided )

For me it was just a way to break into the industry, and I'll still recommend it for anyone trying to get in.

In the next 3-4 years, not very sure, you know the way we take things in Nigeria, L1 will soon turn to pure water.

On the other hand, pass rates are not increasing, so as people are writing it, so they are failing it (it shall not be our portion oh AMEN)

Oga Denzel. . . are you with us, or for us?

I agree 100%. The knowledge is invaluable. You read the papers, and you know what whoever economists or finance gurus are all talking about. Most importantly, the knowledge will help position oneself for opportunities.

For example, I never really knew what bond was, how its traded, the YTM, etc until I delve into L1. I used to think bond was some kind of chemical and wondered why will state government be selling chemicals(lol).

I am studying CFA for these reasons. When I have the charterholder, I will become a PRIVATE WEALTH MANAGER for myself first. Why should I pay a fund manager for doing what I tell him? I have strong interests in Private Equity though (the fun of sitting on the board of many companies because you have controlling interest). I am also very much interested in the economics of emerging markets and plan to have the number 1 leading economic research firm focused on frontier, emerging markets and the 3rd world nations.

That for me is the PURPOSE for writing CFA

Speaking for myself,

Nice to know you have a roadmap of your career, some peeps just do these exams to become paper tigers. BTW, are you still in CISA?

What millions? can't you see these FX traders doing kalo kalo on the computer everyday and not producing anything tangible?

and I also get pissed when they get bonuses for making losses. Like lloyds is paying £350m bonus to staff when they declared loss of over £700m. It doesn't make sense!

I am already advised to ditch CISA for now. After L2 CFA is out, if I feel like stretching my brain alongside study for L3, I could write it. Am just interested in the knowledge, not exactly to use it at the moment.

How logical is that? You want to spend 3 years studying, so that you can manage your own money?
Looks like you failed your very first money and time-management test. embarassed

I don't want to belittle you or rain on your parade. However, I will give you one piece of practical advice. Don't build castles in the air. Be very clear about what you intend to do. Remember that the biggest money-managers in Nigeria are not even CFA charterholders. Be careful so you don't fall victim to the classic Nigerian disease of crowd mentality. Most people are just doing stuff because they see others doing it. You need to have a vision, a realistic one, for whatever you're doing. No matter how noble your dreams sound to yourself, they can easily be crushed in today's world.

The tension na high, which mean say na die!

So i decided by starting financial puzzles any one can answer, and it helps us understand our reading better, u can also add urs. Here we go

1 I AM CALLED AMERICAN "---" AND MY BROTHER IS CALLED EUROPEAN "----" , BUT I AM NOT AN AMERICAN AND NEITHER IS HE EUROPEAN. WHAT ARE WE?

2 WHAT MAKES ME SLAP MR A BECAUES MR B WON'T PAY ME MY MONEY?

If you can't answer you need to read your notes harder especially level 2s.

I can only respond to the first as the 2 types of options. The curriculum clearly clarifies this where it stated in the footnote on pg 5 of v6 that 'the derivatives industry often uses nouns, verbs, adjectives and adverbs as parts of speech other than what they are. Hence, words like American and European are used not as adjectives but as nouns'.

Who's on with the second one.
