The Difference Between Tithing And Giving by flourishG(m): 4:18am On Jul 18, 2012
1. Tithing was an OT commandment to the Jews. Giving is for NT Christians. God took away the "laws of tithing" so that He can establish the "Gospel of Giving". Hebrews 10:9

2. Tithing is never money but its content is crops and livestocks by "law". Giving can be anything including crops, animals, cars and even money etc.

3. In Tithing, God decides for the OT Believers. In Giving, It is Freewill and God lets the Christian decide for himself.

4. In Tithing, there is nothing to purpose in the heart about because the content is already fixed and how much to give. The content and percentage of what to give is predetermined to be 10% and from crops and animals. In Giving, "as he has purposed in his heart". This is freewill: The giver must determine the percentage he will give: 0% 1% 5% 10% 15% 25% etc. 2 Cor. 9:7

5. In tithing of the OT, even if the Jews doesn't want to give 10%, God still expects him to do so, even grudgingly, the tithe MUST BE GIVEN even begrudgingly. In Giving, "not grudgingly". This is freewill: If you feel the slightest bit begrudged in giving, then God doesn't want you to give.

6. In tithing, the Jews are is under "compulsion or law" to give. He has no choice, he must give 10% because that is what God requires. In Giving, "not under compulsion". This is freewill: If the Christian doesn't want to give anything, even if he could, he is not forced to give at all!

7. In tithing, not every Jews are required to tithe. Only those that produced crops and animals are to tithe from their crops and animals that only God increased. In Giving, everyone must and is to give as God has prospered him even from their income. 1 Cor. 16:2; 2 Cor 9:7

8. In tithing, it was to be observed yearly and once. In Giving, it is to be observed weekly and anytime. 1 Cor. 16:2

Please feel free to add your knowledge on the difference between tithing and giving for the edification of the church.
