Dont ask IT people. Ask Business people what they need or what they use. IT people sometimes do stuff simply because it seems like the cool thing to do. Business people will pay only for things they NEED.

^^Said it all, most programmer look at programming from the coding perspective not from the real life problem approach. So if you need a software idea visit this blog http://www.ericsink.com/bos/Finding_Product_Idea.html this guy says a lot of stuff about starting a software business and I think some of it still apply here in Nigeria.
