Standing5: The big and sensible question here should be, do they really need to admit 9000 students for the sake engaging more people or give 3700 hundred people quality education? Our problem in this country and by extension continent is not quantity but quality. A VC like this needs to be re-evaluated, the man doesn't seem fit to run a school of that magnitude.From his statement it is clear why must public schools are overpopulated. manitobor: Not really a matter of admitting more students, its more a matter of making sure that there are enough facilities educational facilities to take on more students. As it is now some of the basic necessities in the school are in short supply, overcrowded lecture halls etc. More universities of international standard need to be built by the federal, state and private individuals so that more of the vast number of people who apply on a yearly basis will have the opportunity of acquiring qualitative education.

chidike: i'm a graduate of UNIZIK and i can categorically state that admission is based on merit, if you do well, u'll be admitted, that is not to say that there aren't a few peeps who do runs, maybe if you are related to the registrar (and u must even still have to do well in both exams ), but asides situations like that which happens even abroad, UNIZIK is the place to be. The Structures are in place, we had wireless at mt faculty (environmental science), one of the best libraries in Nigeria (E-Library) with internet connection, fees is about 20,100 for old students, i went through school for 5 years without experiencing cultism and i de flex small. Its the place to be, so proud of my school. Can be stressful at times sha, during exams and new sessions but its cool. Great Zikites!

SOUTH SOUTH: Out of 80,000 only 3,700 will be admitted!! this is pathetic..

ujchief: Thats the dilema most versities face now. They're forced to drop students who are also qualified to enroll.
Unizik vc is right, and has grounds to seek for more quota to admit students based on availability of qualified lecturers and up to date lab and lecture halls at unizik.
Better stil, schools should be allowed to admit students per semester, while those admited later can use the long vac to do a summer class and still meet up wit the rest.
After banning the part-time programs that provide alternative admision opurtunity for students, it is understandable why the vc is advocating for more quota.
Else, we should scrap the 'educationally less priviledged' bul.l.sh.i.t that lets an aboki from Borno state to gain an admission over someone from imo that scored higher in both ume and post ume. Its time to level the playin ground.

xplicit_me: I believe UNIZIK admissions is fully based on merit. Am a Living testimony. My dad cldnt believe in 2006 that I'd just walk into the cyber cafe and come out and tell him I'd gained admission... He was expectin that with d good score I had, we wld still need follow-up with calls and visits to ''I.M'' personalities in the institution, Like he had to, for my elder brother n sistaz admissions to other Universities in the East.
He actually had to send me to awka to confirm that it was authentic and not a fluke.
Mind you, my dad wldnt pay a dime for admission because he strongly believes in ryt moral and his children potentials which he had help develop.

Six years down memory lane in UNIZIK College of Medicine, I must confess, to survive you have to be Up and doing cos if U dnt keep up academically, U'd b kicked out. Nobody cares how rich you are or the influence of ur parents. Atleast I'v experienced nofin less than four children of respected Professors in this institution kick-out. One of whom am close to, is presently at Convenant University.

The bottom line is that more qualified people should be giving the opportunity in as much as we ask for provision of more facilities and ultra modern equipment n human resource.
