Please I need help. My 2007 bmw X5 e70 , 6 cylinder, overheats. That's, I got the drive moderately engine hot message. It started a week after I changed the radiator. The previous radiator has leakage. I scanned the vehicle and I got the 2e8b code (intelligent battery sensor). Could this be the problem? Please help don't ignore.

Modified: I tested the water pump now. It's not working. Could it be the fuse/relay. Where is the water pump fuse or relay?
First the pump does not work on bench by just running power and ground to it, you’ll need a scan tool to turn it on, also after changing the water pump, you need to use scantool to bleed the cooling system after installing. The intelligent battery sensor, I believe it has nothing to do with the issue at hand.

They are very great vehicles, Truly Mercedes has easy access to part here in Nigeria and Technicians, that’s the only reason but if you don’t really care The Ultimate driving Machine all the way. Most importantly you should go along with a trusted technician to inspect the vehicle for you. No matter your choice.

The pump can be tested, when correctly connected to a car battery. And to bleed the cooling system, turn on the heater, leg on the gas pedal for 12 seconds.

If you’ve ensured this you might actually have an issue with the cooling system, probably an hidden leakage somewhere. That only a cooling system pressure tester can expose

Thanks bro. I have actually sorted the overheating issue. I got a new waterpump, a new thermostat and bmw coolant. Bled the system and monitored the waterpump speed with my scanner.

The issue I haven't resolved are the 2e8e, ibs (intelligent battery sensor) bsd code and 2e98, alternator: missing bsd code.
Battery volt is 12.3v, and 13.81v to 14.0v when engine is running. The engine starts effortlessly. I couldn't delete the faults codes. I'm confused.

Check this fuse out and see if it’s not broken yet

Sounds like an electrical issue, you need to plug it

Use a multimeter and trace out the circuit one by one according to the diagram and do some voltage drop test at each section of the circuit. It might be a open circuit somewhere

if you dont have a scanner you need to go to a mechanic who has one and let them determine the codes

Why?
They are problematic and unreliable and they not even fast ..
I think I wrote a piece on an n42 that burst it's block .
From oil pump problems . To rocker arm problems to timing chain problems . Let's not forget the famous misfires .

And imagine telling your car friends you drive a 318i lol

You can't truely hate bmws till you own one and you'll only love them if you've driven one ..

Youll start hating bmws when you own a BMW with n4x or m4x .

What's wrong with the Bolded? have you used a BMW318 B4? I used a 318i for 4 years none of them problems you listed up there. what yah fail to understand is this, the vast majority of drivers i n Nigeria pour groundnut oil in their engine in the name of servicing.
Talking about the 318i have you seen the 2022 318i

Boss you're not in Nigeria . You drove yours from new . My Nigerian demographic bought their own at 80k miles .
We are not the same .

I've not seen the 2022 318i but how can you enjoy raw speed and driving performance with a four cylinder producing approx 120hp ..no way .you're better off with a Camry

1st assumption is wrong as I did drive a 318 in Nigeria from 2007 to 2010, I was in Nigeria for that duration. There is almost no road in Nigeria where you can get the pleasure of your HP from a car cos B4 10mins of putting your foot down bad road shows up. Unless you are driving a car with dynamic suspension like the range rover then Yeh. My BMW then came with 120miles I bought it from Germany.DO not just judge a 4cylinder engine as less power then you should just look into the xdrives and the VW Golf with a 4x4.

did you change battery recently? If yes, did you register it? Else, your Ibs sensor may be bad. To test, temporarily disconnect it from the negative terminal of the battery.

Hi bros, glad to get your reaction to the issue. I didn't change battery. I changed the ibs but the codes are still there. There's no check engine light but the codes are seen anytime I scan the car, (apparently it is a bsd code) Well, I have been driving the car that way, and it's still running fine. The battery is still great and the alternator still efficient.

Modified: I read your post again. I will disconnect the ibs temporarily, and check. Thanks bro

I don't know where you stay but we have good roads in the north .
The fact that yours didn't give you bad times dosnt mean all BMW 4 cylinders are good., It dosnt mean any 4cylinder engine one buys would give problems .i mean the four cylinder engine would likely make you hate bmws more easily than a six would .

I worked on bmws from 2013 till date . And I assure you most of the problematic ones are four cylinders ...we still have an e90 with an n42 the owner abandoned since around 2015 ,decided to buy a peugeot .and an e46 with an n40

Most BMW owners love speed and the four cylinders ain't just it .I think it dosnt really like to take a beating .

The best still remains the m5x engines . Imo

I have driven from Lagos to PH, that's the furthest I will go. Well just as you said, just because you had a bad experience with you 4cylinder engines does no mean all 4 plugs are bad engines, do not forget, we are not talking Toyota here, cars like BMW ,Audi, Mercedes and VW are in a different league when it comes to automobiles. The best engines are the Diesel Engines, you cant beat those.

This is blasphemy. You should check out the newly rehabilitated Ijebu Ode-Ore/Benin. You can drive for an hour 30 minutes with your eyes closed while maxing out your speedometer if you wish.

Same experience with some sections of Lagos to Ibadan, Sagamu to Abeokuta and many others.

Simple question, do you remember what road hazards are?
Are you talking about those roads with no streetlight or markings or reflectors? You think those are roads for speed?
