The oil spec is on the oil cap on your engine. Most likely 5W-20 (both accord & civic).
The transmission fluid is ATF-DW1.
Both fluids are available in the Honda manufactured spec.

numen: My Maintenance Tips:

1.) Change Engine Oil every 3000km (I use Mobil)
2.) Use Oando's Dexron II for the Gear Box (Abro will knock your gear) - (already mentioned)
3.) While driving be mindful not to always turn the steering to the last possible angle(helps the shaft)
4.) If you have an open roof, periodically clean the drainage hole to avoid water leaking into the car
5.) Vibrating Sound infront of the car? Check your engine sitting(already mentioned)
6.) Your single pipe radiator which used to work might not be the cause of your current over-heating...Check your water pump!
7.) Your car is not accelerating according to pedal pressure? Timing Belt might be the culprit.

Just my 2cents guys. Hope this helps someone. I luv this thread like I luv my Honda.

Bros your effort is appreciated.
But Oando dex II or any other dex II can't be good for honda. I've tried oando dex II on my 2000 accord after reading this very comment last year. It did not perform, it foams after long hours of operation and leaves the gear jumping. Now I'm using Seahorse dex IIID, everything now is smooth, fuel economy improved. Though I'm watching it closely.

About 3000km for oil change. You did specify the type mobil you use. If it is mobil 1000XHP in this region, I don't think so.
Re: Maintenance Tips For Honda Cars by Nobody: 7:27am On Sep 22, 2014
^^^^ why use dexron II or III when Honda has its own (highly recommended) transmission oil.

The dexron is meant to be used for a short period when honda tranny oil is unavailable and should be completely flushed out upon acquisition of recommended oil.

Please take note.

Luvinhubby: please whats the price of accord 2004 compressor?

^ I wouldn't say to much because - right now I need to change all my sensors- I guess like they say I entered on chance I want to assume I bought fake gear oil- people beware they are selling the fake gear oil in the recommended gear oil packs* in abuja
Re: Maintenance Tips For Honda Cars by Nobody: 4:14pm On Sep 22, 2014
^^^luvinhunby once shared details on how to distinguish fake from genuine oil. Plus google should help you with figuring out the differences.

Sorry about your sensors though.

Hi nlanders, I recently changed my rear brake pads. Now i hear a hissing sound while driving coming from the rear. Each time a park the car, I can smell the brakes badly like burnt clutch. I drive a 2k8 honda accord.

I also need to change my rear shocks, it rattles the dashboard when i go over bumps.

It's either the brake bad is fake or wasn't installed properly. The rear brake pad has something like a key and slot (the key is on the pad while the slot is on the caliper piston). If the pad is not properly set on the slot on the caliper piston, what you get is noise as you drive because the pad touches the disk even without pressing the brake pedal which is not supposed to be. Just have it replaced and installed correctly and you'll be fine.

change your ball joints at the specified intervals and you are good to go. Mostly, ball-joint pull is a result of how bad you maintain your car.

cheers

Good one but in addition, ball joints ought to be changed at least every 3 months. And if car's parked for a long time, it should be changed before car use.

My car's body is poorly maintained cheesy but the engine, tranny and suspension are in top shape type of maintenance. (I just want the card to hit the road and perform maximally regardless of how dented and scratched it is grin)

Good and you should equally give attention to the body of your car. yes 3 months to change ball joints in naija is okay because of bad road and fake parts.

Re: Maintenance Tips For Honda Cars by klipse: 11:10pm On Sep 24, 2014
Can anyone refer a good Honda specialist in lagos. I need to replace all my suspension parts. My 08 accord is starting to feel sloppy. I had an issue with handling earlier this year and my mechanic replaced the front bushings but it hasn't fixed the problem. The car still turns randomly over little bumps.
Re: Maintenance Tips For Honda Cars by klipse: 11:14pm On Sep 24, 2014
It feels like the steering has a gap. When you slightly turn the steering, it frees up then stiffens then frees like there is sumtin hooking in the steering rack.

Your steering rack is leaking & looses pressure.
May need to change it.
