Re: Policeman Kill Makoko Traditional Ruler by jmaine: 12:25pm On Jul 22, 2012
rakaasta: Police officers were sent there to maintain law and order and not to kill. This has nothing to do with Fashola or anyone. The policeman should be dealt with accordingly they are fond of pouring their anger, depression and frustration on the citizens.Infact they should stop giving them guns and settle for something else.

Agreed, but am sure your one of those who also blamed GEJ for death's, incurred by the police during the fuel subsidy removal protest . .

If we had folks blaming GEJ then, then you shouldn't squeal if folks are blaming Fashola for this;afterall, there were there on the order of the Lagos State Government

The Policeman's act goes to show the kind of BEASTS we have in the Police, Navy, army etc. Bunch of uncivilised Animals.....
I hope Fashola doesn't turn a blind eye on this one, the Animals were "trying" to enforce orders from his Govt....

Lagos state govt. should have made alternative resisence for these pepole for crying out sake. As for the cop, he sshould be executed without delay and to the police authority, I think it is cheaper to procure blanks that live ammunition. the IGP said it sometimes that blanks would be issued to his men instead of live ammunition but he has failed to implement this. What a Nation!

@jmaine. Pls understand me.We need to look inwards at the reason or motive for a particular decision.I feel sorry for them for being rendered homeless and another household put into mourning its sad. But d truth is dat they've passed their boundary and the GOVT. as good intentions.
Re: Policeman Kill Makoko Traditional Ruler by 180263: 12:49pm On Jul 22, 2012
In the first place, One need to ask if that place was allocated to them or how do they come
to be living in that place? If the GOVT. Require the water front for developmental purpose
there are procedures to it! Which include verification of the allotment, or certificate of occupancy.
If these documents are not provided, then nobody has any claim to the property. The makoko Baale
residents and others could have gone to court to stop government from acquisition and possibly get
compensation for there actions.
They are illegal occupants hence they can not lay claim to the water front. And besides they are
migrants in Lagos they dot belong to this our 'NOBLE' state!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

When i look @ the average Nigerian policeman & i see insecurity boldly written on his forehead. I'm sure the NPF will not do anything abt this incident. To them, it's collateral damage.

. No one is tryin to say that the deceased was right by protesting. The subject matter is on the policeman that shot the unharmed protester. Whether the protest was justifiable or not is another issue entirely. The animal in uniform had no right to shoot the otherwise unharmed man. Peace!

olajide_07: In all sincerity makoko is an eye saw from direct defecation into the lagoon to the shanty structures along the water front on this same forum some time ago their was a fire out break that killed close to 3 people at makoko, including a pregnant woman and a 5yr old kid now their is about to be a power station which needs the water line, and their would be collateral deaths along that axis if they are not relocated on time if they don't know educated people should know better.

The policeman is going to plead the 'devil's handwork' as usual. Nobody takes responsibility for anything in Nigeria. Of course the judge can and should sentence the devil in him to die by hanging.

According to eye witnesses, the victim who was identified as Timothy Hunpoyanwa, was said to be conducting residents of the troubled community who were on a peaceful protest before the police corporal shot him.

The deceased was the assistant Baale of Makoko with the title Otun Baale.

He reportedly gave up the ghost on the way to Gbagada General Hospital.

The Lagos state government began the demolition of the waterfront shanties last Monday, claiming that structures built within 100 metres from a power line installed on the lagoon would be demolished.

It was however gathered that on Saturday morning, a joint task force consisting of police, officials of the state Ministry of Environment and Kick Against Indiscipline (KAI), extended the demolition and this led to a scuttle and protest by the residents.

Confirming the unfortunate incidence, a statement signed by the Police PRO, Ngozi Braide, named the alleged police officer as Corporal Pepple Boma. He is said to be attached to the Marine Police, Oworonsoki Division and was posted on special duty with the Lagos State Waste Management Authority (LAWMA) on the demolition exercise at the water front of Makoko.

According to the statement the police officer “allegedly shot a man in the stomach. The victim was rushed to the General Hospital, Gbagada where he was later confirmed dead. The corpse has been deposited at the General Hospital, Ikeja for post-mortem examination, while the suspect has been arrested and detained at the State CID Panti, Yaba.

I don't know when Nigerian police will hear word! This extra judicial killing trigger a Boko haram insurgency in North after the killing of Mohd yusif by police.
And now they killed innocent, un- armed community leader. Is very bad and believe me nothing would happen to this trigger happy foolish police man, they will only transfer him to either North or SS! God dey watch ooo! If you do good you will see good and vice versa.
