donstan18: That's the same mindset that's preventing Nigeria from advancing beyond where it is. Politicians are busy squandering money that's supposed to help the people and here you are praising them and hoping to emulate them. People with your mindset only serve as evidence that corruption and greed are simply impeded deep in our culture. How can we expect better governance, when we celebrate corrupt people who couldn't care less if you starve or die? And ogbeni it's not criticize but rather holding people accountable. |

RealAlubarika: I agree with the bolded, there are certainly no excuses for criminally and I am not excusing it. Those companies that chose to hire undocumented people under the table do it so they can take advantage of their workers and not pay them equitable pay. I still don't recommend it because you are in a hostile environment and risk deportation. I encourage immigration, but you'll save your mind and soul extra work if you put in the time and effort to do it right. 1 Like |

seeker121: This is why going abroad without proper documentation is not advisable. Italy is already one of the countries in the EU that struggles to provide employment for its citizens, so foreigners, especially those who don't have legal status are in a tough spot to find employment. Many have to resort to illicit activities like drug dealing, prostitution, and hawking while facing the risk of deportation. Imaging fleeing Nigeria just to go and sell hand bags on the streets of Europe while you are trying to avoid authorities. It's not dignifying! 13 Likes 1 Share |

Edeyoung: Nothing barbaric about this! It's culture plain and simple! And in an era where traditions are eroding away day by day and generation after generation, it's refreshing to see the presence of the old in today's world. I'm stunned to see people who can't even speak their native language and only know how to speak Pidgin or English. Also, I don't know if you are intentionally being disingenuous, but most people don't prostrate fully directly on dirt as you make it sound. There are levels and variations to courtesy and greetings. 1 Like |
Politics / Re: The First Story Building In Nigeria by 9jakool: 2:29am On Apr 21, 2021 |
golddust6000: The so-called first storey in Nigeria was built by a European on African soil. Is that something to celebrate? The same lies we've been fed since school. The so-called "first well in Nigeria" built in the 1800s in Badagry was another lie as if our forefathers didn't know how to tap water from the ground till the white man showed up. We celebrate this as if it's an achievement, but it's mediocrity and makes us look like laughing stock of the world. Pay in mind that the Goborau minaret in Katsina was built in the late 1300s by Africans and it's three stories high. 4 Likes |

Ibrahimmrfish: Did I say muslims are not victims of Fulani attacks? However, It's naive to think there is not even a subtle religious angle to the conflict, but you can deny it all day long and keep gaslighting. You really think a band of violent marauding murderers just stop at being tribalists and don't have an ounce of hatred for other religious groups? Also don't mistake me for a bigot, because I know that innocent people are always made scapegoat of these conflicts. |

We know places like Benue and Southern Kaduna where the herdsmen would go on bloody rampage during the early days of the crisis are in the North and they are mainly christian areas which is where the herdsmen target the most. Science/Technology / Re: Starved Lion In Kaduna Zoo Died Two Weeks After Viral Reports ― Official (pic) by 9jakool: 9:04pm On Mar 25, 2021 |
We clearly have no culture of appreciation for nature in Nigeria. Other countries in Africa like Kenya and SA have open national parks that tourists flock to visit and provide tourist earnings for the countries. In Nigeria, we have lousy zoos with one starving lion. The zoo in Ibadan is also in bad stage and the lion in their enclosure looks to be in very bad condition. Most of our big games in Nigeria are either extinct or endangered! Most of our rainforests gone, our national parks in shambles. Where in Nigeria can you see zebras? Where are the cheetahs? All hunted and driven into extinction. We used to sing songs about these animals when we were young, but that's all a thing of the past. 2 Likes |

BKayy: 1. Did I say Yorubas traded with Igbos? or did I say they traded with Ijaws, which through them is how you acquire the Ijebu fabric? 2. Who are they? Who are they that claim that it's as old as Igbo nation? Experts in Igbo history? I gave you a non bias perspective from an academic institution and you gave me a bias news story written by two of your fellow kinsmen who are indeed journalists and were sharing their opinions. Also, they never denigrated other tribes in their article and were very respectful in speaking of the textile tradition of other tribes unlike you. 4 Likes 1 Share

BKayy: This is clearly a boldface lie and you are very shameless. You can big up your tribe without distorting the truth or denigrating others. Your insecurities are glaring. 1. It's laughable to suggest that Yorubas were 'basically naked' until 18th century after trading with the Fulanis and Europeans, when some of the easiest sculptures from Ife dating back a thousand years clearly show people wearing clothes. Even claiming the Hausas got their clothes from the Arabs is a misconception, because the tagelmust worn by Mauritanian Arabs were historically produced by Hausas and exported from Kano. 2. Claiming akwete as an independent Igbo creation ignores the contribution that the Ijebus had on the creation of akwete cloth. Akwete designs were appropriated from an older Ijebu weft float textile that Ijebus used to sell to the Ijaws centuries ago. This textile was introduced to the Ndokis via trade with Eastern Ijaws giving rise to the akwete cloth as we know it. And here you are chest-beating that Igbos are the only people in Nigeria with Indigenous cloth production and other tribes were influenced by foreigners. By the early nineteenth-century, Ijebu cloths of this type, bearing intricate weft-float designs, were being traded across the Niger Delta and into the hands of Eastern Ijo peoples who then assimilated them within their own local culture. In turn, Eastern Ijo people introduced Ijebu and other cherished imported cloth designs to women weavers in the Igbo village of Akwete just fifty miles to their north. As a result, Akwete Igbo weavers have come to appropriate a wide range of foreign-introduced patterns, including those from the Ijebu Yoruba area. 9 Likes 2 Shares |

Givaxy: What I don't get is that how can you reject an anthem in Yoruba, when the Ijaws (at least the Apois) ONLY speak Yoruba, the Apoi dialect specifically. Also Apoi claim distant origin from Ile-Ife, so I'm inclined to believe that they aren't the ones making the most noise in Ese Odo. My guess is that the much of the noise is probably coming from the Arogbo Ijaws, the other Ijaw clan in Ondo. They are actually dwarfed in number by the larger Apoi and settled after the Apois, so they were able to retain their Ijaw language. They are probably the ones making much of the noise. Torhukerhijo is clearly an Arogbo man, so I can see where his grievances are coming from. 1 Like |

ogbonti: I get your point that there are more Yoruba and Igbo speakers in America than Hausa speakers, but that's really not the point. You really think these American students are learning Hausa and Yoruba to speak to the average Nigerian in the diaspora or communicate with Nigerians in Africa? That would be laughable! The answer is that language is a gateway to learning about the culture of a people. For example, you cannot learn Yoruba without understanding the culture. It's the same way many Westerners are intrigued by Ifa. It's sad that Westerners value investing in history and humanities of Africa more than Africans. If I read an academic piece on the history or culture of Nigeria, 75% of the time it's written by a Western scholar or an African trained in the West. How much money does the Nigerian government spend on academic institutions, research, history, archeology, museums or cultural preservation? The Americans are learning for fascination and interest rather than for translation purposes. You cannot blame them for wanting to learn about other people. It's unfortunate that America is stealing the talents from Nigeria as you put it, but honestly that's the fault of the Nigerian government not the Americans. |

ogbonti: The Yankees are only concerned now about maintaining a white majority, but weren't thinking of that when they were busing importing millions of slaves from Africa for LABOUR. Africans are only good for SLAVE LABOUR but God forbid they are actual immigrants? Were White people worried about maintaining their majority when they were busy colonizing the Americas, a land that they are not indigenous to? Were they worried about their white majority when they annexed Hawaii, an island literally inhabited by the Polynesian race? Or were they worried when they took control of Northern Mexico, which includes the present state of California, a place you reside in? Are we talking about the same America that white people fled to in order to escape poverty and famine in Europe? But Nigerians are not allowed to be economic immigrants and make a better life for themselves because of the so-called Globalist Agenda. Till date, more Europeans migrate to the US than from Africans. That should tell you a lot! Some American students are interested in learning Nigerian languages and they need teachers who are fluent in said languages. Oh the terrible globalists and their agenda are at it again! 1 Like |
Politics / Re: There Is A Growing Resentment Of Fulani Herdsmen Within The Hausa Community. by 9jakool: 8:27pm On Feb 02, 2021 |
Arewa1stSon: It’s funny you said political backbone, which is just a coded term for unbalanced share of power or political monopoly of the Fulani in Hausaland. Hausas are considered a majority ethnic group but have not provided a single head of state in Nigeria’s history. Shagari, Murtala, Buhari and Yar’Adua are all Fulani. We bring development, institutions, appointment, Bussiness and power to the north. Everyone knows that it’s the Hausas, not Fulanis that control much of the economic activity of the North. It’s no accident Kano became one of the largest centers for trade in midieval Africa centuries before the Sokoto Caliphate was even born. Go to any market in the south, go to Ghana, you will find lots of Hausas doing trade. You bring up business and appointment in the same breath? You really are shameless! When are political appointment and nepotism considered contributions? The relationship appears mutualistic on the surface but it’s really parasitic because if we separate the yolk, the Hausas lose nothing, but the Fulani would have everything to lose. Fulanis do not have a true indigenous ethnic land they can claim in Nigeria and their influence comes from associating with the larger Hausa entity. The cold truth is that they need the Hausas, but the Hausas don’t need them. Hypothetically if the Hausas were not a muslim majority ethnic group, the conversation would be very different. 28 Likes 2 Shares |

I thought Hausa and Fulanis have intermingled for so long that they've forgotten who they are and transformed into a new ethnic group, Hausa-Fulani. It would seem that the Hausas do know themselves after all lol. I've always said the Hausa-Fulani tag is overplayed. 9 Likes |
