@aphek i think Rigs/models/textures included in any training DVD are for your usage, they've considered that already, some can even be used for commercial purposes, but come on, you can change the character and claim you modeled it no be me tell u oo, anyway, it's for learning purpose. @all 2 weeks nothing do me already started my blocking poses, see ya, 9tLecturer |

Hi Guys, Meet the attached, GOSH!, a brief intro about GOSH, Gosh has been my pal, instructor, friend, trainer( d guy get masho body ooo ) rival (my babe dey trip for him) and a very cute character, i believed some folks would have seen Gosh somewhere or maybe have it cuss Gosh was found online with his family, anyway, not modelled and rigged by ME but has been with me for a while now Gosh was modeled creatively with a low res poly, complete simple rigged but FK only and very fast and flexible when animating. i will be using Gosh for this task, give him some nice cute shirt and jeans, ANYWAY, till then. SEE YA LATER,

@zpixel well, i think the judges should be the viewers(audience that pops on this post) but however, we can still judge each other with technical critiques, standards and skills. remember that the objective is a influence learning development. no contest whatsoever my views, any other view? |
Art, Graphics & Video / Re: 3d Animation Challenge by 9tLecturer: 8:47am On Mar 26, 2010 |
@OKX am gud with the storyline, quite simple, neat and direct, nothing much to it. already downloaded 2 characters for use, thanks to zpixel. alright, am ready to go but let me see, concept? checked! system? checked! storyline? checked! character? checked! and, hmmm. 9tLecturer? , well am in already (kiddin) nothing do us guys, let's get on to what we like to do best |
Art, Graphics & Video / Re: 3d Animation Challenge by 9tLecturer: 5:46pm On Mar 25, 2010 |
@agreed OKX Let's finalize and proceed to work, bringing from what you said, OKX: let's express ourselves so that the intuition & comfortability could be there and let's feel free to use our own model, rig and whatever, all we do like to see is your character's swagger, i like that , animators's spotlight' Season 1. folks watch out as we will be getting to Season 20. when are we kicking off, |
Art, Graphics & Video / Re: 3d Animation Challenge by 9tLecturer: 11:03am On Mar 25, 2010 |
@aphek i support your third point and i think we shouldn't go with lip sync for now as it will definitely take a lot of time. but my fear about ready-made rigged character is that sometimes you don't get the full information/custom attributes of the rig structure but anyway i can go with my rig or any rig. my opinion is that animators should rig their character, if it's low poly character it shouldn't take longer than 1 day to rig. what ya think? |
Art, Graphics & Video / Re: 3d Animation Challenge by 9tLecturer: 10:51am On Mar 25, 2010 |
@OKX I suppose you already have a model we could work with, anyway can we get the sketch for modeling, i know you to be good in 2d sketches. for the storyline, let's start with some walk cycle with poses, style and attitude, a character walking down the street in a good mood, believability and realism in timing. how about that? |
Art, Graphics & Video / Re: 3d Animation Challenge by 9tLecturer: 9:13am On Mar 25, 2010 |
Hey, you guys ain't leaving me behind, are u? definitely am on board let dig it on some real practicals , i like the following idea, * Model should be uploaded for use (low poly count pls) * animators should rig the character with their specs * there should be a storyline to follow i noticed that there are pretty good 3d modeling and design artist here in nigeria but not so much lovers of character animation cuss of it complex process, well i hope it helps others to grow. and i also think animators after completion of the characters rigs should try to analysis the rig structure and components to the house for learning purpose. e.g. someone might rig only with IK or stretchy functions and the other with FK-IK switch, then we could learn that FK-IK switch is more efficient in animating, what's ya' opinion? anyway, i can't wait to starting rigging am off work for 2 weeks. dLecturer |

Please disregard earlier post @aphek, hey, see my oga won finish me oooo actually i was joking when i said it was on water i knew it was a plane, actually when you are doing test lighting, i guess you might consider the following: A: You should test your lighting with models without textures to get your lighting directions and angle well and also photons when using indirect illumination B: Also test your lighting with models with textures and shaders to check which materials/textures/shaders correspond to light, receive light more or less then you can tweak your lights settings C: After getting your light settings and angles right then proceed to actual texturing, then you can lock or freeze your light object so as not to accidently move or change them. adjust your render settings and you are gud to go. At least i know the above processes are standard procedures of some production pipeline. cuss sometimes lighting your scene are not always friendly to do oga, i said i was out but aphek, this is just a simple scene, there's nothing technical much to say about it or what do u think? i think you are just trying out, |

@melvi get this gist, the image(shoe design) i attached was one of my model about a year ago, now this is how it happened, i just travelled to the UK to further my search of d green land and i got this info that a company was looking for a 3D product designer, though before then i have been modeling and had some jobs but they need a product design demo on shoes, photorealistic design specifically. i got on my computer and model this shoe, when i had the interview online, i was told that they choose me cuss i paid attention to detailing, that even the raw design model without texturing was enough to show how it will look after texturing, though the texturing matters ooo but after looking at the model topology they were satisfied. MY POINT is, i spent time learning not just how to model but to model well and approriately for production purposes, Highly detailed with little poly counts, try and start paitently and groom yourself very well. when i got into the company i later saw some other demo with textures, lighting and rendering that were not considered cuss they depended on simulating detailing. and the wrist watch was part of the my models, others i have worked on are Sneaker shoes, nokia n90 and some other interesting stuff, hope my little story inspires? i can post some of my render and lighting design if u wish, cheers 9tlecturer

@ melvi whatever criticism, negative comments or discrimination that you might get from the community, it's your decision to accept it or not but try and adopt professional practice and aim at achieving stunning result, you could anyway cuss you are already getting there, i know there's fun in knowing as many softwares as possible but only one of these could achieve something greater than the combination of all of them, try and work smart not work hard, i could imagine the hassle in exporting or importing files to complete your project. abeg, never enter motionbuilder oooo, that's anyother lifecycle on it own you might just end up realising that you dont need it, whatever keyframe fine tunning that you may require can be done in your primary 3D app. please build yourself to produce best result and with what you have currently. i modelled for 2yrs when i was a newbie without texturing, lighting or rendering and i got a job as a modeller. i did well to produce what the team would be until i wish to proceed to the next level. guy my aim is to be d executive visual effect director, to give directives and make money , that's all they do, but there's a path to achieving that guy, u be naija now, small work , plenty $$$$ . guy, good luck |

@melvi Guy, cool down you will get the Job, as earlier said by vertexroya "It is not the job that is the issue man, it is the SKILL." , that's exactly the point, what matters is the SKILLS AND REALISM. if you were the client, what will you go for? that's the question you should always try to answer, Great start, great stuff, modeling OK, but melvi, there are some other fundamentals you need to consider especially when working on arch designs in any 3D program. These programs are so developed to simulate real world’s structure, settings and virtually anything as to compare with real world and that's why they are perfectly used for visual effects in films and TV, so there's need to follow the procedures and processes to get the best result. now you seems to have gotten the models right but you are not there yet, try and answer the following questions , - which 3D program are you currently using and conversant with? - which renderer? - what are the models unit measurements, do yo have or considered any? note that this might affect your lighting in GI (photos and ray points) - what do you like to focus on, arch design, character design, animation? so that you can build your strengths on the areas. - do you really need to animate or do a fly through? how about different angle still shots. build yourself on achieving photorealistic design, this will not only establish you as a professional but also tell how best you are in the thin cuss that's the whole point of getting the job. indeed this's a great start, please keep it up, seek professional opinions and advice, ask how some stunning designs were done, get these answers and employ them into your workflow then your reel will bring the client. little tips! don’t like animation ooooo it sometimes just waste your time, different angle shots of your stunning models/design can do the do keep it up and see you on top |

@core_talk you can revert your old UI into the new look, i.e loading the previous versions UI and getting the old windows widget look, then you feel at home with the program. but have you checked out the following features real world photometric lights functions graphite modeling tools advance mental ray render shaders more consideration on arch buildings, lightings and renderings. guy ;Do be small thin o! am working on a project using the program, and am so comfortable working like a professional using the graphite modelings tools, i will post some screenshot soon. but really, the UI is not that intimidating/complicating, just assume its ur usual old Studio Max, then you are gud 2 go |

Art, Graphics & Video / Re: Stanbic Ibtc Advert by 9tLecturer: 10:40am On Dec 21, 2009 |
well, i did like to say that the Ad. was just one of the stunning creativity of some guys maybe here in nigeria or SA whichever but i know stanbic folks are related to some SA creatives and they mostly get their stuffs from some their SA crews, but i do not doubt that some creative ninjas here in nigeria could also do the same or more than that. but guys, technically analysising the commercial, do ya all think it's kind of complex in terms of the animation, 3D stuffs and visual effect composition, i mean can any of you do somethin like @ your current creative and skill level? maybe i really want to know. well, i can explain the technical formation in creating something like that or how it was done, but i really like to know what ya'all feel and think about the Ad technically PROFESSIONALS let's talk! i mean, ideas or clues on how its was done? me i won learn ooo |

@dblock for outdoor lighting, sometimes it's good to use vray skylight to get realistic outdoor lighting, but i will find out and get back to you. well, let's get to your problem first. to create a background and sky, you have a use an image that match your models with a sky and a background. then map the image to a plane mesh and place right behind the model, adjust your angle to match your shot, there you have a background . i will try out some GI settings and tell you what best to use. you can also check out graphicspalace.com, i saw a guy that posted some tips and tricks on creating interior and exteriors design using Vray and studio max |
