Education / How To Prepare Yourself For Academic Activities As A Fresher by Abdullahi1994: 3:32pm On Nov 19, 2017
Here comes the period when students are given admission to study various courses, but most students get carried away by the noise and distractions of being a freshman that they actually forget what brought them here. Getting it right from the start as a freshman in school is very important, as your entire academic performance is dependent on your performance as a freshman. So here are some tips to help you on this journey:
1. Get recommendation on the right books/materials to read: Reading the wrong material is as brutal as not reading at all. You have very limited time to read while you are in school. And it will do you a lot of good to spend this little time reading what is really important. The only way to know which material is important is to get recommendations from people who are already in the game. I mean people who are in 200, 300 or 400level in your department. Not necessarily from the same school, even from other schools.
2. Familiarize yourself with the course you are given by creating interest around it: It is possible you are offered a course you didn’t put in for. I mean, I was offered a course I didn’t even know the meaning of. What I did was to use a dictionary to know what the course is all about and then use google to get more details. You can do this as well. Another way to create interest for this course is to find someone who is currently doing the same course and who is passionate about it, to explain the details to you.
3. Make friend with someone above you: find someone who is in a higher level than you to mentor you on your journey, this doesn’t have to be the best student in the class. The truth is, best students in classes are usually too busy trying to retain their status. You will learn a lot from people who are brilliant and have nothing to lose.
4. Go find accommodation before the school properly resume: The truth is that hostels are usually cheaper at the beginning of the session before student resume. And you can easily select from a wide range of hostels during this time. You can find off campus hostels on our website www.offkrent.com
Education / Why Renting Hostel With These Facilities Will Save You Cost. by Abdullahi1994: 10:27am On Nov 11, 2017
When looking for hostel, student are not usually aware of some hidden cost that comes with renting hostel. This is because they try to save cost by renting low price hostel, which in most cases have substandard facilities. Not that this is not nice, but renting a low price hostel does not necessarily mean saving cost. This is because the price of a hostel is based on several factors such as the available facilities, the distance to the nearest bus stop and the type of hostel. Hostel with great facilities, such as borehole, running water, tiles, security door, fence and bedding are usually expensive, especially if they are close to the nearest bus stop. While hostels with little facilities are usually less expensive compare to those with many good facilities. Some low price hostels might have great facilities but their distance to the nearest bus stop are usually far.
Here is a summary of how you can save cost by renting the right hostel
1. Get a fully tiled hostel: With a fully tiled hostel, you can save cost on buying rug or carpet
2. Get a hostel with ceiling fan: This will save you the cost of buying a fan.
3. Make sure water is running or at least there is water in the compound: You will save the cash and stress of having to buy water or going to a long distance to fetch water.
4. Make sure the room is already painted: Painting a room might increase your expenses by some thousand especially if you have great taste.

Education / How Student Can Save Money On Hostel Renting by Abdullahi1994: 2:22am On Nov 08, 2017
With the advent of technology, student can now save a lot of money by searching for hostel online. Research has shown that 65% of buying decisions are made online and completed offline. This is so because, online ecommerce website and marketplaces, like www.offkrent.com (a marketplace for student hostel in Nigeria), have various choices that consumers (student) can browse through and compare prices. Giving the consumer a lot of flexibility and saving them some cash in the process.
So how can student save cost on finding their choice hostel online?
With online hostel booking website like offkrent.com, student can:
1. Save cost on transportation: Without the previous knowledge of hostel, student usually spend a lot of money on transportation while searching for their choice hostel. With the help of technology, student can now ‘walk the street’, as they call it, without having to spend a dime on transportation.
2. Save cost on paying multiple consultancy fee: It is a common practice among estate agents and hostel owners to charge consultancy fee before showing student their hostels. This money cover the cost of transportation and any other costs encountered during hostel inspection. Most agents see the need to charge this fee in order to get the student commitment and to make sure that the student is ready to get the hostel before they can take them around. The side effect here is that student don’t know if they are going to like any of the estate agent/ hostel owner’s hostel before paying. This means they will have to pay even though they don’t like the hostel afterwards. With online marketplaces for hostels like offkrent.com, student can browse for various options and they can see the pictures, prices, available facilities and distance to the nearest junctions, which are the most important criteria they need to make their choice, before even contacting the hostel manager. This way, they can save cost on paying multiple consultancy fee or in some cases not pay at all as they already know the hostel they want before even visiting the estate agent/hostel owner.
3. Save airtime cost: Another cost student incurs while searching for their choice hostel using the conventional way is airtime cost. They spend this by calling multiple estate agents/hostel managers to confirm if they have a particular type of hostel. This cost is minimize when student find their choice hostel online as it narrow down the number of estate agents/hostel mangers to just the few that have their choice hostel.
4. Save time and energy: Apart from time and energy, student can also save a lot of psychological stress that comes with looking for off campus hostel.

Business / Getting Comfortable Being Uncomfortable by Abdullahi1994: 9:54am On Nov 04, 2017
No matter what people say about how much they enjoy their life work, it is not always 100% all comfort. Most people think being great at your craft or achieving great results is all about doing what you love but the truth is that most high achievers at times have to beat themselves to create that best selling book, movie or song you’ve seen doing well.
Life is all about grinding through each and every other day for us to produce our greatest work.
I read an articule by Melinda gates titled resilience-risk-taking-and-dreaming-big (https://medium.com/@melindagates/resilience-risk-taking-and-dreaming-big-921d004f73a0) in this piece, she has a sub heading that reads Get comfortable being uncomfortable. Then I realized that even the greatest achievers are faced with the same problem as myself. That I am not alone

Business / 7 Important Traits Of Successful Startup Founders by Abdullahi1994: 9:48am On Nov 04, 2017
A friend of mine once argued that there are no success principles. He cited many examples of successful people who have no formal education let alone knowing any success principles.
So, I tried to explain to him using the example of a man who enter a dark room looking to switch on the bulb but don’t know the exact position of the switch. Then he accidently press the switch with his body while walking around in the darkness. Wolla! The bulb lights up.
Though, he is not aware of the position of the switch (Principle), he still lights the bulb (Success). But the reality is, the switch does exist and it is not dependent on your awareness of its existence, the only thing that matter is that you press the switch. But you are likely to light the bulb if you are aware of both its position and existence. Your knowledge of the location of the switch will determine how fast you will be successful.
The same analogy is true for attaining success in running a startup. You have to be aware of the principles and traits of successful startup founders, you have to learn how they did it. I have realized that many successful startup stories follow the same trend though they might have differences in the specifics of their stories but they all have something in common. This is why I have compiled some of the characteristics that I have seen common among successful startup founders by reading their books, tweets, articles and quotes and listening to their stories.
Here are some principles successful startup founders follow
1. Persistence: Not taking rejection personally. It takes time for people to buy your idea. The big question is: are you going to be there when they do? You can only be there if you persist enough to stay through the tough days. The difference between a successful startup and one that fail is usually in the persistence of the founders and the founding team. Tony Hsieh told the story of how Zappos almost went out of business due to lack of funding from investors. Despite the fact that the business does millions of dollar in gross merchandise even in its early days. But his persistence actually paid off when Sequoia and other high profile investors decided to invest in the business.
One way to stay persistent is to have a clear vision of what you want your company to be in the future, because it is the vision that will drive you even when you are about to give up. Another way is to have mentors, not necessarily those you see on a regular basis, they can also be people who are far away from you (thanks to technology). And also by surrounding yourself with positive thinking individuals.
2. Action and result oriented: Successful startup founders are great executors. They are determined to achieve result without wanting to be ‘cool’ by taking massive action. They have the ‘Whatever it takes’ attitude and they go the extra mile.
3. Data driven: They back their assumptions with data no matter how small. Successful startup founders know that in running a business, emotion plays a secondary role. They know it when they are screwing up and they are candid with themselves they let others criticize their work which is why most of them surround themselves with friends and employees who give them candid advice.
4. People oriented: They are generally good with handling people. If you know this, human is the greatest and most difficult asset to manage. Successful startup founders are good at motivating people around them.
5. Good communication skills: they can communicate ideas so that other people can be motivated to turn the ideas into reality. Most companies started as little ideas in the head of the founder. The founder did a great job by communicating their ideas to potential employees or cofounders. Great startup founders know how to ‘paint the dream’ of where they want the company to be and they constantly keep their employees in check to make sure they are aligned with the company’s long term vision. In his book, Delivering happiness, Tony Hseish who was the co-founder of Zappos, talked about how the company’s great culture was created and how the company WOW their customers. It all started from his own imagination of wanting to make people happy. But Tony was able to inspire the rest of the company to take up the dream of creating a company that WOW their customers. Which is what they now do today.
6. Good salesmen: The ability to convince someone to work with you on your project is a sales character that most people overlook. Steve Jobs, Bill Gate, Elon Musk, Mark Zuckerberg, Jason Njoku, Mark Essien, Tayo Oviosu are all great salesmen. If you don’t believe me, check them when they feature on a TV or Radio event. They will always talk about how awesome their product is.
7. Total commitment: Chimezie Emewulu of Seamfix narrated how he hawked honey in his NYSC uniform to keep his business running. And he is not the only one to have done what people will term ‘crazy’. Successful startup founders believe in the dream and they are ready to go the extra mile.
The big question is: Are you ready to go the extra mile?

Education / The Story Of How I Got Admitted Into My Choice University (continuation) by Abdullahi1994: 6:31am On Oct 06, 2017
“Thank God I have been offered admission”, “I was offered Biochemistry but I put in for Medicine”, “Is there anyone who have been offered Physiology?”
No, that’s not me. Those were the comments I found on a Facebook group I follow, the first batch of the admission list has just been released. The tension is on the high again.
With a mixture of excitement and fear I quickly rushed to the University’s website to check my name. But all I could see is the sorry message and the plead to check back later. I was once again down. After few days, I do what most people would do; I started looking for the percentage of students that were admitted in the first batch and comparing them with the previous years, and also asking people who have gained admission into the same school to know which batch they were admitted. I was once again calm when I heard most students were admitted in the second batch. But my heart is still filled with ‘what if’ questions: What if I am not admitted? What if history repeats itself?
Once again, I do what I know how to do: pray.
It was on a sunny afternoon, and I was feeling sick from fever. I was laying on my bed when a call came in. It was my friend who had been offered admission into my institution of choice the first year we both tried. I was afraid after seeing his call, this is a guy that will rarely pick his phone to call you. What is he going to tell me? Is it that the second list is out that I should go and check? Or is it something else, not related to admission? So I picked the call in suspense. Then I dropped the call after some minutes. My guess was right, it is one of the two guesses I had. But even better; I have been offered admission. Immediately, everything around me looked different, the fever flew away, I was filled with joy. But then I remembered the last part of the call where he said: “the bad news is that you have not been offered the course you applied for”.
But who care if it is that course or not, I am just trying to make it to the University. To clearly understand my position just visualize a man whose favorite food is rice and would hardly eat any other food on a good day. But here comes a day he is penniless and hungry with no hope of food. And close to the end of the day someone from somewhere brought him a food he hasn’t tasted in his whole life. You guess what he will do with the food. So that is what I did.
I accepted the admission and it turned out to be one of the best decisions I have ever made in my life.
Thank you for reading through

Education / The Story Of How I Got Admitted Into My Choice University by Abdullahi1994: 7:49pm On Oct 03, 2017
It all started after I have graduated from secondary school as the best student. Expectations were high. I had a great score in my UTME. Here comes the time to go ‘kill’ the post UTME and once more, shine. But life doesn’t always give us what we want or what we think we deserve. Long story short” I failed. I failed the post UTME. It was the post UTME of my most preferred school then. No one expected this from me not my parent, not my teachers, not my mentors, not even me.
I can’t fully rejoice when my friends started getting admission. Not that I don’t want to rejoice with them, but the feeling of being left alone, being left out of the game was what kept me from doing so. I suffer the pain for a whole year. I must tell you, I tried, I tried gaining admission into any school. I even tried to gain admission to a remedial program so as not to be left behind. But the truth was, my parent don’t have the cash to pay for the exorbitant fees. So, I am back to where I started. Which means I had to wait for another year to try. The fear now is if I will be able to perform better, if history is not going to repeat itself. But I kept doing what I know how to do: I read and pray.
Here comes another year, here comes another opportunity for me to get it right. I have to get it right. So I put in all my effort hoping to have the highest score in UTME across the whole country for that year. But no, my score was less than the previous year, which means I score less than 300 I was disappointed and scared as I think my performance is getting low. How do I expect to perform better in post UTME this time? When I can’t even make a better UTME score. But this time, I manage to make it above the average post UTME score, but I still have the fear. If you are like me, you’ve probably heard the story of a guy who had 90% in his post UTME but was denied admission. What hope do I have? When my score is not even close. Again I did what I know how to do: I pray.
To be continued..

Education / Important Qualities To Look For When Choosing A Mentor by Abdullahi1994: 1:53pm On Sep 24, 2017
The question of who should one choose as one’s mentor is a critical one. One that requires a lot of attention as it will determine the quality and the type of life one live.
To choose a good mentor, look for people of high achievement that bear some similarities to the person you would like to become.
You should look for someone of high integrity and high intelligence, as these are important factors.
Choosing the right mentor might take time, but it is usually worth it.
Education / Separating Yourself From The Crowd As A Student by Abdullahi1994: 8:04pm On Sep 17, 2017
With lots of interactions with a lot of students and being a student myself (I am still a student in the sense that I still learn every day), I have realized that one single thing is the cause of student success or failure.
To separate yourself from the crowd you need to embrace this one thing and embrace it fully. This one trait is: Taking responsibility.
It sounds simple, but it’s not. Those who embrace this one thing succeed and those who reject or fail to embrace it fail. You might be interested in knowing why. It’s simple, when you fail to take responsibility of your own life, you start to blame others for your failure and you never get to appreciate yourself or give yourself a thumbs up on your successes, which is very bad for your self-esteem.
Take action, Take responsibility
This is to your success

Education / 4 Things That Must Be On Your Daily To Do List As A Student by Abdullahi1994: 5:28am On Sep 01, 2017
Did you watch that great match between Mayweather and McGregor? Don’t feel sorry if you don’t, neither do I. I only checked the result and that too was when I want to write this post. What most people emphasized about the fight was the amount it cost to watch the live match, I don’t mean on TV, I mean real life. It’s an average of $10k and I heard both player make millions in that single fight.
But what do these people do to deserve this kind of attention? They practice, every day, which is one lesson you should learn as a student, you need to practice every day to become the best at what you do.
Here are 4 things that must be on your daily to do list as a student
1. Reading: If you are an athlete who wants to win the Olympic what would you do? Let me tell you what they do. They practice every single day. By practicing every day, they get to train their muscle and get good at their craft. This is true for reading too, by reading every day, you are training your brain muscle. With time if you continue to train your muscle daily, you will realize that your mental muscle is strengthened and your thinking will be above that of an average man. You will think smart and take smart decisions.
2. Exercise: Cultivating the act of daily exercise is good for your health and makes you smarter. When I say exercise, I don’t mean you have to do some heavy weight lifting or run like Usain Bolt (if you can do this, they are nice). But one simple exercise I personally practice every day is a fast walk. You know the kind of walk you take when you are late for a meeting? That’s the deal. That is exactly what am talking about. This will not only make you fit but will also help you think clearly.
3. Sleeping: The brain in its function works like a machine. Let me ask you a question, what will happen if you keep running a machine 24hours every day for the whole year non-stop? Yes it will break down. Sleeping is similar to the break you give that machine, it refreshes your brain and replenishes your energy. One way I use sleeping is; I sleep whenever I have a great challenge I could not find answer to. And I don’t always come up with an answer every time I wake up but trust me, it help me see the challenge from a different angle and that is what you need most time to solve a problem.
4. Goal Visualization: This is like meditation, but here you think. You think by asking thought provoking questions like: what are my life goals? What do I need to do today that will bring me closer to my goal? Am I currently doing what will bring me closer to my goal or am I doing the opposite? It is like checking yourself before you are checked.
What daily routine do you have that I did not mention? I would like to know about them. Share in the comment box below

Education / How To Set Achievable Goals by Abdullahi1994: 6:47pm On Aug 22, 2017
No matter what your goals are, there are thousands, if not millions of people, who have achieved the same goal in the past or are currently enjoying its achievement. It doesn’t matter how big or small your goals are, what really matter is that you have them and are willing to put in the effort towards achieving them. Your chances of achieving any goal is higher when you have a clear goal. The reverse is also true; if you don’t set goals or if you don’t have a clear goal, you are most likely to fail.
What really differentiate successful people from others is that; they have clear goals that drive them.
Here is a step by step guide on how you can set clear and achievable goals.
Get a pen and paper for this exercise. This require you to be alone where there is no distraction.
Step 1: Imagine yourself having achieved the goal you are about to set, Imagine the exciting moments you will have. What will you have? What will be different in your quality of life? What quality of material will you possess?
Write the answers to all these questions down. Then proceed to step 2
Step 2: Is it possible to achieve this? Have you seen anyone achieve this goal before? What do you need to learn/unlearn or what skill do you need to acquire? What step or steps do you need to take? What is currently holding you from getting what you want?
Write these down as well
Step 3: Keep this document in a safe and secure place, where you can easily reach any time. As you will need to visit it from time to time. Don’t share the information you’ve written with anyone yet, because they can be a source of discouragement. Keep it to yourself.
Step 4: make sure you always revise those goals you’ve written in step 1 (preferably, everyday). Note that most of your answers in steps 2 are ACTIONS, these are the things you need to really focus on doing. And as time passes, you will realize that your answers to the questions in step 1 are coming into reality. Go back to revise this script anytime you are stuck while trying to achieve your goals.
On the part of the things that are holding you down, analyze each one of them and you will realize that they are just excuses that are generated as a result of fear. Here is one single thing you should remember every time you are afraid of doing something that is important to your success: Everything you will ever want is at the other side of fear. Read that again, and again.

Education / 4 Simple But Efficient Ways To Do Anything Faster by Abdullahi1994: 1:53pm On Jul 30, 2017
You know the feeling you get when you realized that you have completed the task you are about to do the day before? Whether it’s reading, writing, doing assignment or even washing your cloth. That is the one I am talking about. The feeling that you don't need to worry, because everything has been taken care of. That feeling of satisfaction you get here is priceless and have a lot of positive energy attached to it. This article shows you how to do anything using the fastest techniques.
Here are some ways you can achieve just that.
1. Not every procrastination is bad:
The first time you think of doing an IMPORTANT task is the best time to do it. Remember, IMPORTANT tasks. You are probably familiar with this saying: Procrastination Is bad. Well that’s is not totally true, not all procrastinations are bad. Procrastinating tasks that are not important so that you can focus on the important once is not a bad thing to do.
Do the right thing at the right time. When you do a one task at the wrong time, it in effect affect other important things you will be doing in the future. Remember, you have 24hours in a day. Always prioritize to know which tasks are truly important.
2. Total commitment is key
You have to make the commitment to do everything you want to do yesterday or even the day before. I wrote the first draft of this write up after finishing my meal at a restaurant, then I remembered the list of those things I had to do, it was a long list, one that scared me and want to make me pull some of the tasks off. A lot of them I wish I had done the day before. It was on a Monday Morning and I wish I had finished every task the week before so I don't have to worry. But that is not true, as I had a whole block of tasks I have to complete. I was tasty for that feeling of self-satisfaction.
Since that day, I have cultivated the habit of doing everything yesterday. Doing everything yesterday means you can face tomorrow's challenge with great vigor and enthusiasm. If you can achieve this, you will be on your way to achieving greater things.
3. Leave self-pity, it's your enemy
Self-pity is a disaster and ranks second after fear on the self-destruction list. So don't fall for it. There will always be a voice in your head that tells you not do go further that; you shouldn't kill yourself. For the record, no one I know have ever died of too much work.
4. If you don't inherit the mentality, get it
Being effective and less effective are habits that can be built over time which one you pick depend on the people you associate with and the culture that is being promoted around you. One of the ways you can be effective is to get a mentor. Not finding good a mentor is no more an excuse, as we now have the internet. It is now easy to hear stories of people who have never meet their mentors but they know a lot about them by reading their books, listening to their tapes and watching their videos. All you need is a name. Base on your personality, you can browse for people who you think you will cope with.

Golden Nugget: Be effective, stay effective

This is to your success

Education / 4 Things You Can Do With Your Phone That Will Save You Some Cash by Abdullahi1994: 2:40pm On Jul 26, 2017
Technology today have made things easy in a way that help reduce cost and lead to more productivity. There are many things you can do with your mobile phone, most of which you might not be familiar.
Here are some things you can do with both ‘small’ phones as well as ‘big’ ones. They will really make you productive in school and also save you some cash.
1. Save notes: Have you ever been in a situation where you need to take notes but couldn’t find a pen? Yes, you have. Taking note on your phone is the best way to save yourself from losing important information. No matter how small your phone is, you can save notes on any phone.
For small phones, you can use the SMS message board to type your notes and then save as draft. For big phones, most big phones have inbuilt to do apps or you can as well download Evernote app from app store.
2. Scan notes and textbooks: In this age, you don’t need to spend money on photocopying notes anymore as there are apps you can now use to scan/snap notes and convert them to readable pdfs. One example of this apps is the Camscanner app. You can get that from the app store too.
3. Set reminder: Setting reminder is a way to keep track of activities. This is in case you have any important event or lecture you have to attend. Most phone have this feature. For small phones, you will need to set the reminder as alarm and then name the alarm with the title of the event you wish to attend. This is good for time management.
4. Record lectures: Those audio recorder you find on your phone are not just there for decoration. They are tools you can use to record lectures so that you can listen to the lecture again and again while you are out of class or share with friends who are not in class.

Education / How To Answer 21 Common Exam Questions by Abdullahi1994: 3:42am On Jul 16, 2017
Understanding how to answer any question is 50% of the solution to the question. Exam questions are different based on the grammatical expression used. In any exam, what a questioner wants to know is if you understand the subject matter. This is why you have to use illustrations and examples where necessary. For instance, if I ask two students: What is a computer?
Answer
Student 1: A computer is an electronic machine that can store, retrieve, and process data
Student 2: A computer is an electronic machine that can store, retrieve, and process data e.g Desktop computer, calculator, and mobile phone.
Who do you think will get the highest mark? Of course student 2 because with his example I now know he understand what a computer truly is and he can identify one when he sees it. And this is how questioners generally view your answers in any exam or test.
Here are 21 common questions and how to answer them correctly

1. List Question: This kind of question requires you to JUST list those particular items
For example, a question that reads: List 3 items in the kitchen
Should have answers like:
a. Knife
b. Pot
c. Stove

2. Explain Question: This type of question requires you to write a long article on the specific question. If you have the knowledge of any diagram, make sure you draw, in this case. As this will signify that you fully understand the question and will therefore earn you extra mark.
3. List and explain Question: This requires you to first list the items and then explain them one after the other. If you only explain without first listing, you will not get the full mark. So, LIST and then EXPLAIN
4. Illustrate Question: This should also be answered the same way as the explain question but most importantly with diagrams. It is even better to use a diagram to draw your explanation. DRAW, then EXPLAIN what the diagram is all about in relation to the subject matter or the other way round. Whichever one, make sure your explanation and drawing are related.
5. Differentiate Question: The best way to differentiate between two subjects or things, is in tabular form. Presenting your answer in tabular form will make your work neat and it will make it more presentable and readable.
6. Contrast Question: This is similar to differentiate questions
7. Compare Question: In this type of question, you have to establish the similarities between two things. This does not need to be in tabular form. The best way to answer this type of question is in list format. For example, a question that ask you to compare two subjects, A and B can best be answered thus;
1. Both subject A and B have leg
2. Both of them have eyes e.t.c
8. Compare and Contrast Question: This is a 2-in-1 type of question where you need to compare and then contrast or the other way round. But whichever one you chose, make sure you label each with headline to show where you are comparing and where you are contrasting.
9. Define Question: This requires you to describe the subject of the question with examples. This does not necessarily require you to draw. Two to three examples after your definition will show that you truly understand the subject.
10. Elaborate or expatiate Question: This question requires a long article of answer as the questioner wants you to fully dive into the subject matter. So, you have to literarily ‘empty your brain’ on the sheet, to get 100% of the allotted mark.
11. Discuss Question: This is similar to the expatiate question.
12. What is Question: ‘What is’ question usually requires straight answers and in some cases, a diagram.
13. Why Question: You have to answer this question the way a lawyer will defend his client who is guilty in the court of law to make sure that his client is not prosecuted. It is like a judge asking a lawyer why his client should not be hanged. You will bet in this case that the lawyer will have to provide all possible reasons to defend his client. That’s the way you should answer any ‘why’ question.
14. State Questions: This type of question can be for a single subject or double subject. For single subject, all you need to do is list out the characteristics of the subject using a numbered listing format. For example, a question that reads;

Q: State the 3 common materials use for drawing
Will have an answer that looks like;
Answer:
1. Pencil
2. Color pencil
3. Drawing board
In case of the double question format, this will be in form of establishing the differences or similarities between usually two subjects.
For example, a question that ask you to state the difference between the earth and the moon, requires you to list the differences between the two subjects, preferably in a tabular format.
Note: some questioners might want to test your knowledge of a particular topic by asking you to establish the difference between two totally SIMILAR subjects. If you are sure there is no difference between them, all you need to do is to write in clear statement that look like this;
Subject A and Subject B are similar and have no difference.
Don’t try to establish difference when there is none.
15. When Question: This, at times, is a time based question. The time here can be quantitative or relative. Quantitative in the sense that the expected answer should be a number. Relative, in the sense that the answer is not numerical but still point to a time frame.

16. Write about Question: This type of question is usually common in the Arts, where you have to give account or narrate an event/story. This requires a narrative type of answer where you need to write an extensive narration/description about the subject matter. Minimum of 1 to 2 pages should be used to answer this type of question, depending on what the subject is.
17. How Question: Here, what you need to do is to explain the subject using a step by step approach. E.g
Q: How will you cook rice?
(Funny example though)
You will need to state, using step by step approach, how this is done.
This type of question can also come in form of ‘How many’, in this case, just answer with the correct number. E.g
Q: How many players are there in a football match?
Answer: 11
(by the way, I am not a football fan).
18. Where Question: This requires a direct answer that points to a particular location. For example,
Q: Where in the human body can you find a finger?
Answer: Hand and leg
19. With what Question: This, in most cases is similar to the list question, as the questioner wants you to list what and what are related or associated to the subject in question.
20. Write out Question: The answer to this type of question depends on what comes after ‘write out’. The answer might just be a list of some specific items or an illustration of an event related to the subject matter. For example;

Q: Write out the procedures use in preparing…

Answer:
Here, you will have to state the step by step procedures for preparing the subject and give demonstration under each step on how it is been done.
21. Proof that Question: This is similar to the ‘Why Question’ where you have to give various points, with explanation, that support the argument.

General note: The answer formats provided in this book might require a little more expression. For example, the question on ‘how many players are there in a football match?’ Can be answered simply with ‘12’ or ‘there are 12 players in a football match’. The format you will choose should depend on the questioner’s choice or taste. Some questioner (lecturer) want simple and concise answer, while others want illustrative answer. To know what format a questioner (lecturer) likes, get the information from those who have taken his/her test or exam before.

Education / 6 Daily Habits Of Highly Successful Students by Abdullahi1994: 7:08pm On Jul 14, 2017
Having the right habit is what differentiate smart students from the rest. They cultivate these habits daily that, with time, turn to principles. You might be familiar with any of these habits, but it is the complete use of all that leads to better creativity and productivity.
Here are 6 daily habits of highly successful students
1. Daily goal setting: The habit of setting goals is an important one, as it creates a sense of purpose and direction. Students who sets daily goals use their time effectively and increase their self-esteem and self-respect at the thought of completing their set goals.
The psychology behind this is that; if you achieve your set objective on a daily basis, you will experience some level of self-satisfaction that leads to greater self-respect and improve self-esteem.
2. Daily reading habit: Student who are successful have recognized the need to read daily as it’s a way of strengthening their brain muscle. It is like going to the gym every day to build your physical muscle, if you fail to go regularly, you will not achieve any tangible result. Daily reading habit is crucial to achieving academic excellence.
3. Self-discipline: The discipline of oneself in order to achieve one’s set objectives is very important in every aspects of life. Without self-discipline, no one goal is achievable. This is because the goals you set are task and this task takes energy and considerable effort to complete. To complete this tasks requires a lot of self-discipline i.e doing what you have to do when you have to do it whether you like it or not. There is always the temptation to go for instant gratification, to go for what is considered more pleasing and fun, but top student don’t fall for this temptation. They complete the task any way.
Remember, whenever you force yourself to complete a task, you become happy at the thought of its completion but whenever you leave your tasks undone, you become sad and depress. If this continue, you will lose your self-esteem. So, it is worth it to kind of force yourself to complete a task and be happy to improve your self-worth and self-respect.
4. Proper time management: Successful students have also realized that a good use of their time is important to achieving success. They set time for every task and measure their performance within this time. If they experience low performance, they improve the next time and then the next time, until they are excellent.
5. Result oriented: Smart students understand that a good sign of completing a task is by achieving the desired result. So, no task is completed without achieving the desired result. They always take inventory of whether they have achieved what they said they would on a daily basis.
6. People oriented: They seek to help other people out by teaching what they know. This way they get to learn more themselves. They understand the mathematics of giving, that 2+2 is not equal to 4 but 5 when it comes to teaching others what they know.

This is to your success

Education / Beware: These 5 Things Can Ruin Your Academic Career. by Abdullahi1994: 10:19am On Jul 11, 2017
Just 2% of students actually make excellent grades while the rest of the 98% are doing things that are detrimental to their success without them realizing it.
Here are 5 things that can ruin your academic career and how you can avoid them.
1. Listening to critics: Yes, you read that correctly. It can be tough at times when you are the only one in your neighborhood who reads at the first week of resumption or even at night. As you will get a lot of friends and neighbors telling you your reading is too much or any other jargon. ‘Don’t let the bozo grind you down’ is a way one of my mentors will put it. There are people you think know what they are saying who in actual fact don’t. Stop listening to criticism of how much hard work you are doing. Because one thing is always certain: hard work always pay. It has been paying since yore.
2. Reading all night: What put most student in this terrible situation or what make them want to read this long, most of the time, is because they have a test or an exam they haven’t prepared for.
Most students think by reading for the whole night, they are gaining a lot.
Here is what they fail to realize; maximum concentration and assimilation only comes at the first 30minutes to 1 hour of reading, the assimilation rate decreases with time.
The way to stay fit for reading and any other activity is to cultivate the habit of reading early and also breaking your reading into small sessions at a time.
3. Social media addiction: Social media is probably the highest form of distraction when it is not used properly. One of my mentors will put it this way: ‘Use social media, don’t be used by it’.
As a rule of thumb, the maximum number of times you should use social media a day is 3. Three times is enough, each session lasting not more than 20minutes.
The only reason you should spend more than 20minutes is if you are making money from it. In this case, you are ‘using’ social media not being ‘used’ by it. Even with this, you still need to manage how you use social media.
4. Phone addiction: This craziness started at the time of 2go when people, not only student, started operating phones on high ways without paying attention to traffic.
Today, it has even grown to the extent that student in the same room can’t talk directly except by chatting. If student don’t chat, they find a way to ‘burn’ time by playing games that add nothing to their life.
I don’t mean you should not play games, in fact I do, sometimes. But realize that there is time for everything which must properly be quantified.

5. Not setting priority: Don’t think you can be part of everything and still have time to complete important tasks. It doesn’t work that way.
For every task you take, you are taking the risk on doing less of another task. Because part of the time you now have for the task you used to do before is now taken by the new task. So, prioritize by doing tasks that are really important and stop doing those that are not.
I promise you that if you can stop these 5 things, 90% of your problems will be solved
