Politics / There Will Be Bloodshed If Jonathan Loses In 2015 Election - Asari Dokubo by abdulrey(m): 9:55pm On Sep 11, 2013 |
Former militant and leader of the Niger Delta Peoples Volunteer Force (NDPVF), Mujahid Asari-Dokubo, on Sunday declared that President Goodluck Jonathan’s presidential ambition in 2015 was already settled, as his Niger Delta compatriots would not succumb to any force opposed to its full actualization. There would be blood in the streets if Mr. Jonathan is not reelected president in the 2015 election, the militant leader threatened. Mr. Asari-Dokubo, who was a guest on a Channels Television programme, Politics Today, monitored in Abuja, said he would register as a full member of the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to enable him join in the fight to realize the president’s re-election bid. “The way things are going, there is no sitting on the fence in the battle before us,” Mr. Asari-Dokubo said. “When some people say they have a right to rule and others don’t have, then there is no sitting on the fence. All of us will have to be in the ring and fight. We cannot leave Goodluck (Jonathan) alone. “My support for Jonathan will be biased, because charity begins at home. Monkey no fine, but im mama like am. Goodluck, na my person. 2015 is already a settled matter. Goodluck Jonathan would be President in 2015. “Whether they contest or they don’t. If they say the blood of the dogs and the baboons will be soaked in the streets, or salt water in the streets, we will help them in blood in the streets.” Insisting there was no crisis in the PDP in the wake of the walkout during the recent National Convention by some aggrieved members, led by former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, and seven governors, Mr. Asari-Dokubo said the exit of seven out of 23 governors elected on PDP ticket was not enough to cause any crisis. On the role of two former Presidents, Ibrahim Babangida and Olusegun Obasanjo, who are working towards an amicable resolution of the crisis, Asari- Dokubo described the duo, who are also members of the Board of Trustees (BOT) of the PDP, as “agents provocateur”, who are fueling the crisis by declaring that they do not want Jonathan to run in the 2015 elections. He accused Messrs Babangida and Obasanjo of secretly encouraging the Jigawa state governor, Sule Lamido to run for President, with Rivers state governor, Chubuike Amaechi as his deputy, adding that at one recent public function, Mr. Babangida had said that Mr. Amaechi and the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Aminu Tambuwal, were good to run for higher offices come 2015. He described the Rivers state governor as “a traitor to the collective aspirations of the people of Rivers State,” saying whatever situation the governor is facing he deserved it, as there was no better way a traitor could be treated by Rivers people. On the intervention of the National Assembly in the crisis in the Rivers State House of Assembly, the militant leader criticized the decision to take over the legislative functions of the Assembly, saying the lawmaker lacked the moral high ground to have done so, since they were unable to take a similar action when they were embroiled in corruption charges a few years ago. Mr. Asari-Dokubo, who claimed he was a card- carrying member and major financial of the defunct Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) until December 27, 2010, said he would be joining the PDP to enable him join in fighting for President Jonathan’s candidacy from the inside. Ruling out any possibility of running for any office in 2015, he said his focus for now was on getting the Mr. Jonathan’s reelection project delivered. “I will declare for the PDP. We will fight, because in this battle, there is no retreat, no surrender. We will not take any prisoner of war. It will be total battle,” he said.

Nairaland / General / ''pidgin Or Brokin'' Might Be The Official Language Of Nigeria Someday by abdulrey(m): 10:08pm On Sep 10, 2013 |
Nigerian Pidgin is an English-based pidgin and creole language spoken as a lingua franca across Nigeria. The language is commonly referred to as "Pidgin" or "Brokin". It is often not considered a creole language since most speakers are not native speakers, although many children do learn it early. Nonetheless it can be spoken as a pidgin, a creole, or a decreolised acrolect by different speakers, who may switch between these forms depending on the social setting. Ihemere (2006) reports that Nigerian Pidgin is the native language of approximately 3 to 5 million people and is a second language for at least another 75 million. Variations of Pidgin are also spoken across West Africa, in countries such as Equatorial Guinea, Ghana and Cameroon. Pidgin English, despite its common use throughout the country, has no official status. Variations Each of the 250 or more ethnic groups in Nigeria can converse in this language, though they usually have their own additional words. For example, the Yorùbás use the words Şe and Abi when speaking Pidgin. These are often used at the start or end of an intonated sentence or question. For example, "You are coming, right?" becomes Şe you dey come? or You dey come abi? Another example, the Igbos added the word Nna also used at the beginning of some sentences to show camaraderie. For example, man! that test was hard becomes Nna, that test hard no be small. Nigerian Pidgin also varies from place to place. Dialects of Nigerian Pidgin may include the Warri, Sapele, Benin, Port-Harcourt, Lagos especially in Ajegunle, Onitsha varieties. Nigerian Pidgin is most widely spoken in the oil rich Niger-Delta where most of its population speak it as their first language. What do you think or what do have to say if ''pidgin or brokin'' is made the Nigeria official language.. |

Business / Okonjo Iwella Under Pressure For Rising Debt by abdulrey(m): 11:46am On Jul 23, 2013 |
Abuja - The Minister of Finance came under heavy criticism after it emerged the country's debts were ballooning. Analysts singled out Minister Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala for the spiralling debt. On Monday, records from the Debt Management Office (DMO), showed that the country total debt as of June 30, external debt stood at $6.92bn (about N1.08tn). Domestic debt stood at N6.85tn. DMO Director-General, Abraham Nwankwo, said the Federal Government had over-borrowed from domestic sources. A social commentator, Omoaka Raymond, blamed Okonjo-Iweala. “The Finance Minister lacks the capacity to manage Nigeria Economy; she is just using her academic degree to deceive Nigerians,”he said. A former member of the House of Representative and Executive Security of Anti-Corruption Network, Dino Melaye, said the policies the current administration were implementing, and spearheaded by the finance minister were futile. "It is very unfortunate that this (rising debt) is the result of the transformation agenda of the present administration, being championed by the Finance Minister and coordinator of national economy, Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala," |
Crime / A Man Arrested For Posting His Married Lover's Unclad Pix On The Internet. by abdulrey(m): 2:32pm On Jul 22, 2013 |
IT is indeed a trying time for 37-year-old Mrs Medina Saula, who has been chased out of her matrimonial home as a result of the embarrassment she has caused herself and her husband. The reason behind this is no more than her unclad pictures currently circulating on the internet and which are being transferred from one phone to the other through Bluetooth. And the man suspected to have posted the unclad pictures is no one than Medina’s lover, Adebayo Onifade who allegedly took the action to get back at Medina when their love affair turned sour towards the end of 2012. The case was said to have been reported to the Divisional Police Officer in charge of Saki Division, Mohammed Suleiman Baba, a Superintendent of Police, by Medina’s father when the news started circulating across Saki town and turned into a huge embarrassment for the lady’s family. Crime Reports learnt that Onifade, a Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps member serving at the Oyo State command, started a love affair with the married woman about four years ago. The ‘couple’ was said to have been so overtaken with love so much that they were almost inseparable and always found time to be together in their love nest at Bristhood Hotel, Saki. However, it got to a time the centre could no longer hold for the lovers and Medina decided to opt out of the relationship. This reportedly did not go down well with Onifade who was alleged to have resorted to blackmail, threatening to reveal to the whole world, the unclad pictures of his lover which were taken in the heat of passion. In the pictures which were also made available to Crime Reports, there was part of the private area of the woman that was spared from being exposed to the world. There was even a particular one where her thighs were spread and the entire make-up of her vulva could be seen clearly. It was pure obscenity. The pictures were said to have infuriated Medina’s husband’s family and they ordered her out of their son’s home on April 20. Though she initially went back to her parents’ house, Medina was said to have vacated the town with her two children due to the shame she was feeling about her circulated unclad pictures. Medina’s husband reportedly got wind of her love affair with Onifade, and was said to have once pursued the lover boy when he got information that Onifade had picked his wife with an okada and was taken her to their love nest. The man was said to have dealt with Onifade but he reportedly went to Saki police station to report a case of assault, without disclosing his relationship with the man’s wife. “It is true that I showed her the picture. I also showed her husband but I later deleted them. I was not the one who posted the pictures on the internet. If there is a way they can use technology to detect the person who posted them on the internet, then I would be vindicated.”

Politics / PDP Slammed Oppossition's For Dictatorship by abdulrey(m): 9:44am On Jul 22, 2013 |
PDP SLAMMED OPPOSSITON'S FOR DICTATORSHIP: Abuja - The ruling People’s Democratic Party (PDP) has accused the major opposition party leaders of dictatorship. In a hard-hitting statement, PDP Acting National Publicity Secretary, Tony Okeke, slammed the leader of Congress for Progressive Change (CPC), Gen. Muhammadu Buhari, and the national leader of the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN), Asiwaju Tinubu, for their "dictatorial antecedents." “Buhari and Tinubu who are well-known despots lacked the moral justification to pontificate on democracy especially when all their actions are dictatorial,” Okeke said. He said Buhari was a power-hungry leader. “Buhari has refused to change his dictatorial tendencies. He has continued to impose himself as leader of any political party where he finds himself and use his despotic powers to handpick candidates for elections," said Okeke. The ruling party's publicist also accused Tinubu of dictatorship. “Tinubu has been going around making statements to portray himself as a hero of democracy from which imaginary pedestal he continues to vilify and accuse the PDP of working against Nigeria’s democracy. “It is to say the least, rather pathetic that the opposition leader has failed to realize that Nigerians have since become fully aware of his double facedness as he has continued to exhibit crass dictatorship in the leadership of the ACN and states controlled by the ACN through which he has continued to syphon the resources of the states," he said. The ruling party's statements follow accusations of nepotism against the opposition ahead of the 2015 general election.[b] Abuja - The ruling People’s Democratic Party (PDP) has accused the major opposition party leaders of dictatorship.
