Nigeria's top celebrities in the entertainment sector stormed Oba town for the burial of Obi Cubana's mother.

Also in attendance at the talk-of-the-town burial on Friday, July 16, is the country's respected and popular police officer, Abba Kyari

Abba Kyari, the deputy commissioner of police who is famous for cracking major crimes visited Oba, an Anambra town, for the burial of the mother of Obinna Iyiegbu, the billionaire owner of Cubana Club.

The gist about the burial has dominated Nigeria's social media space in the past few days as musicians, actors, socialites and other top celebrities turned up for the burial on Friday, July 16.

The business mogul’s mother passed away in December last year at the age of 78 and was laid to rest in Afor Uzo Oba, Anambra state.

DCP Abba Kyari spotted at the burial
As the burial gained momentum on social media, a photo emerged on goldmynetv's verified Instagram page showing DCP Kyari with Obi Cubana and other celebrities.

As head of the Inspector-General of Police (IGP’s) Intelligence Response Team in 2017, Kyari led the operation that led to the arrest of Evans, a suspected billionaire kidnapper.

He has also cracked other cases that shook the country.

Oba, the town in Idemili North local government area of Anambra state, is not the first place where Kyari will be seen cooling off, Daily Trust reported.

According to the newspaper, the super cop has spent time off the job with music star, Davido, Musiliu Akinsanya, the chairman of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) in Lagos state, better known as MC Oluomo, to mention but few.

In several clips now making the rounds, guests could be seen spraying wads of naira notes at the event packed with several other dignitaries.

The funeral ceremony earlier became the subject of discussion on social media after Cubana Chief Priest donated 46 cows to Obi Cubana, his associate and former boss, The Cable stated.

Since then, the 46-year-old socialite, whose real name is Obi Iyiegbu, has received over 346 cows for his mother’s burial.

Obi Cubana is renowned as one of the pioneers of nightlife in Abuja, where he has major investments in the hospitality business.

Also reporting the burial, The Punch stated that several guests sprayed Obi Cubana with 200, 500 and 1,000 naira notes in what seemed like a bid to outdo one another.

It added that two of the guests were seen in a viral video having a playful cash fight as they threw wads of money at each other, while other guests looked on.

In the video he shared on his Instagram page, some of the money in N500 notes were in boxes while the rest were piled in huge racks on the table.

The people in the room were heard hailing him as he walked in before picking up a fat bundle.

Following the rate of killings and kidnappings in the country, the All Progressives Congress (APC) has declared that it would not play politics “with matters of life” and the wellbeing of Nigerians in general.

TheCable reports that this was contained in a statement on Monday, April 26, by John Akpanudoedehe, national secretary of APC national caretaker committee.

The leadership of the ruling APC has said that the federal government would not play politics with the security and wellbeing of Nigerians.

Akpanudoedehe, however, said Nigerians must unite against criminality and insecurity.

He said:

“The issue of insecurity in the country has found expression in terrorist and criminal activities of Boko Haram, bandits, kidnappers, rustlers and recently, the highly condemnable attacks on security formations in some states.

“These are current realities and the All Progressives Congress (APC) will not play politics with matters of life and our collective wellbeing as a nation. Only in safety can we enjoy the current agriculture revolution which has seen Nigeria achieve self-sufficiency in rice and other staple food items.

The party added that only in safety can Nigerians enjoy the current infrastructure revolution that has witnessed the rehabilitation, construction and reconstruction of over 13,000 kilometers of critical federal roads, construction of thousands of affordable and housing in the country.

The national secretary said Nigerians must not fall victim to “sectarian opportunists” who want to exploit the country’s security situation for gains.

Akpanudoedehe added:

“The President Muhammadu Buhari administration is criminalising crime, not ethnicity. The President Buhari government will continue and strategically deploy all state resources in achieving public safety.

“We must shun the antics and activities of unpatriotic and sectarian opportunists fanning divisive embers, promote peaceful coexistence, eschew bitterness and unite against insecurity and crime, for the development of the country."

Academic activities in public universities may be suspended if ASUU goes on another industrial action

The union has accused the federal government of mistreating lecturers.
A member of ASUU, Prof. Ayo Akinwole, justifies the resolve by the union to embark on strike if FG fails to upholds its commitments.
The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has warned that lecturers in public universities may embark on another industrial action.
The chairman of ASUU in the University of Ibadan, Prof. Ayo Akinwole, said victimization of members and non-payment of salaries may prompt a fresh industrial action, The Nation reported.
Uncertainty as ASUU declares plan to shut down universities
The federal government’s team having negotiations with the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU).
He alleged that since the union suspended the strike on December 24, 2020, many lecturers were still being owed salaries of between two and 10 months.
Akinwole accused the federal government of violating its promise not to victimise lecturers.
NYSC management sacks over 30 senior officials, gives reason

The ASUU chief said:
The suspension of the strike was based on an agreement reached and a ‘Memorandum of Action’ signed in good faith between the government and ASUU at the stakeholders’ meeting held on the Tuesday, 22nd December, 2020.
''A major common position agreed to (and expected to be respected) by the government and ASUU was that nobody shall be victimised in any way whatsoever for his/her role in the process leading to the Memorandum of Action
.”
According to The Punch, he argued that while ASUU has kept to the agreement by returning to classes and performing their respective duties, the federal government reneged on its part.
The senior lecturer warned that the government’s actions could have negative consequences on public tertiary education in Nigeria.
