Waoh, dat good news, av always known that the mix of guyz that represented us in 1994; were just like the best I have ever seen of the National Team. Got us into the world cup for the 1st time, ranked 5th in the world, and even after that, a good number of them are still relevant in the game. Congrats Emenalo.

Jobs/Vacancies / Re: 3rd-class Any Hope? by abott(m): 9:55am On Oct 14, 2010
Uhm, am much of a reader on this forum and do less talk, but am moved to reply to this, cos of a good experience I need to share here.

Lotta hopes for the 3rd class graduate. I'll just wanna state here that the 3rd class graduate am refering to here is one that had a 3rd class, not because he/she is dull but rather becos of some other issues that didnt make him/her put his/her best during examinations whilst in school.

I'll start with a story of an older friend (this aint heresay) who finished with a 3rd class from Unilag (2005) in Banking and Finance, simply because whilst in school, he had serious financial issues which kept him out of school, and puts him in a bad emotional state during exams, as such ended up with a 3rd class, however after school, he applied for a job with a private firm, and the requirement was just a simple test - An essay on your dream of a better Nigeria, he was favored for the job amongst some 2.2, 2.1 and HND holders, thereafter he put in for ACCA, got another BSc in Applied Acctg in 2years, this time a First Class, believe me he is now works with BGL Securities as a Finance Analyst and earns over N300 per month, just 5years after ending up with a 3rd class !!!

Now this is the message, truthfully our society places huge importance on certificates, and most job openings in big multinationals do not consider 3rd class graduates, even government parastatals, hence i'll advise this 3rd class graduate should focus on some less-paying jobs possibly in small and medium size firms that would at least enable him afford some little to survive and plan for the future, this plan can be gettin additional degrees to compete better or starting out as an ENTREPRENEUR.

So, clearly having a 3rd class now aint the issue, its the readiness of the holder to weather the storm, face the challenges that would come in the short term for the long term to be better off.

Sports / Re: At Last, Kanu Quits Eagles. by abott(m): 8:23am On Jun 25, 2010
O my dear NLanders. All dis bad mouth for Kanu Nwankwo!!!! D great one, d one last got us a junior world cup back then in 1993, played greatly in the hay days of Super Eagles to bring us an unforgettable and historic victory against Brazil in the semi-finals of Atlanta 1996 Olympics, ensured that there is a strong bond and cohesion amongst other team members, always there to answer to clarion call whenever the nation needs him, and above all contributing greatly to saving of lives of several Nigerian children.
No matter what we think, the coming of Kanu to Super Eagles has been more of good than bad, he has contributed immensely in several of our games, brought in great energy, zeal and zest, even much more than some younger wards can deliver. He remains one of my most celebrated players for Nigeria, he is inducted into the hall of fame of great Nigerian players like Rashidi Yekini, Stephen Keshi, Samson Siasia, Austin Okocha,
KANU, you are a LEGEND, the one that made me become a fan of Arsenal FC till today!!! wish you well. congrats on your successful retirement.

Career / Personal Savings Culture Amongst Youth - Inputs Required by abott(m): 12:07pm On May 21, 2010
Hello Nairalanders.

I am conducting a survey on “Personal Savings Culture amongst Youth”. It has been said, that most youth end up working without saving. Thank God for the compulsory Retirement Saving Plan which is usually done through PFAs.

I therefore require your input on the following: Lets assume that you earn a net monthly take home pay of N174,000.00.

1. Of this amount, what percentage do you think you can save, without touching it, consistently for two(2) years on a regular monthly basis ?
2. If your percentage savings is low, what do you think is responsible for it. Low percentage savings means 40% savings or less.

Your response will be appreciated.
Politics / Re: Adenuga Pays Beyonce 2 Million Dollars For Daughter Wedding by abott(m): 8:21pm On Apr 20, 2010
Guyz, dont we get it here, $2m dollars is about some N250m/N300m, do we have any idea of what that can do. Dis can sponsor 1million Nigerians up to University Degree. No one is saying the rich shouldn't enjoy their money (legit or otherwise), but then we need to consider some other factors, bliv me its a waste. its like laying gold on the floor of your house, when the road into your street or estate isnt motorable. Gosh, Adenuga, dis is much unlike you

TV/Movies / Re: Ultimate Search 6: Wale Alabi Eviction Was Political by abott(m): 1:49pm On Jul 30, 2009
GUS 6, uhm dis show has started on a very great note, we were about to witness the crowning of a real ULTIMATE MAN, but all that lies in the dream now. There are several questions for both Bob and the "Concil Of Elders" to answer.

Agba Town is Agog, as injustice has been played against a Son of the Soil - Wale Akanbi. Since the beginning of the search, this guy has been dominant, vibrant, brave, strong and domineering. He showed he could act as a leader and he was given the chance, and now a TOTEM which is a logo for the whole camp, but in his own direct custody is missing, and for that the council of elders choose to let Wale go, just like that , like a chicken, like he were no MAN. Fine, the Show has no rules, the Anchor made it clear that the Totem must be well guarded and the loss of it can lead to grave consequences, which can be as bad as EVICTION!!! This has always been the rule for all the searches so far, but in the past the TOTEM has been lost and the consequence was based on the circumstance that surrounds the loss which lead to either EVICTION or PUNISHMENT (like staying without food or sleeping outside the camp). For Wale's case, he has guarded this TOTEM assidously for almost 10days so far, and has shown us the great qualities of the ULTIMATE MAN in which we are in search of.

Gulder needs to answer some questions cos I need to know who and who make up the council of elders, is it just Bob and some other guy, such that their thinkin is narrow, or is it a group of at least 5people so they can collate different views, is there a CHOICE already, is it no longer a REALITY SHOW or has it become a DRAMA.

I want us all to stand up against the eviction of Wale, as it trips me that there are some things we are not PRIVY to , several times, we have watched true ultimate men go just like that, and some chickens crowned as ULTIMATE MEN. Is Gulder trying to say that it is wrong to be strong, brave, domineering, diligent, unique, stand out, o o o o com'n even if Wale is evicted, Gulder am glad to inform u, u just ended GUS 6, PALM BOO is dead.

I dont take alcohol, if I do, ill never touch Gulder again cos of this eviction.

However, if you have a BSc, send ur CV to AccessBank, you can fill the application online @ www.accessbankplc.com.
Wish u all the best.
Career / Re: Can I Convert My HND To B.sc? by abott(m): 7:36pm On Oct 24, 2007
Nairalander, i feel this site is an avenue to help each other, lets not disuade people from making their post no matter how silly they may seem, he has only asked a simple question which has a simple answer, no need shouting him down, it might sound silly to be askin how to change an HND to BSc, but really the stigma attached to HND holders warrant this need.

Guy, to your question: To change ur HND to a BSc, you'll have to get a Direct Entry (DE) form and apply to any University of your choice, some universities require a minimum of Upper Credit, e.g Unilag, while some might take Lower Credit, check out the Jamb Brochure to make a choice anyway. However, if you have the money, i'll advise you check out for foreign schools and go a foreign BSc degree, which would be faster.

Wish you all the best.

Career / Re: My Job Is Not Challenging by abott(m): 12:55pm On Oct 03, 2007
Hello guy. i dont think you should resign just like that. from what u said about ur boss, he's too bust handling some projects, isnt there anyway you can come in to assist. find out from him, tell him ur plight and ur willingness to assist in whatever form, it could be as little as makin some calls for him or even photocopies, before u know it, u get into d flow and d nitty-gritty of the organisation, probably ul be too busy to even put posts on nairaland.
however if u feel u really need a change of job, take ur time surf the internet, and b sure u are needed where u will be going, and its a place that will put u into maximum use.
wish u all the best.
Investment / Re: Stock Market: Questions And Answers by abott(m): 4:45pm On Oct 02, 2007
Nice topic. Most people really dont understand the terms used. Anyway, lets take for example, access bank public offer of 4,721,839,130 ordinary shares of 50k each at N14.90 per share.

(i) The 4,721,839,130 Ordinary Shares represent the number of shares the company is offering to the public, i.e. the public is allowed to subscribe up to that number of units for that particular offer.

(ii) the 50k means that each of the company's share has an actual/book/nominal value of 50k each, this means that for each unit of shares bought, its actual value of 50k in the books (balance sheet) of access bank plc. now, lets get this well, this simply means that the company is supposed to sell this shares to the public at 50k, however, most companies due to their perfomance and market perception do not sell their shares at its book value, companies sell at a premium i.e a price above the actual/book/nominal value.

(iii) the 14.90k is the price to be paid to buy 1 unit of share.

hope u understand, for more info, u can reach me on olawoyina@accessbankplc.com

Hi, good u want to invest in shares. Its not advisable u buy shares just becos d price is low, u need 2 consider the competency of the company and management ure investing in. Anyway, i'll also recommend Access Bank Shares, which is currently in the market, it sells for 14.90, u can be assured of getting over 100% appreciation in less than 3months.
