Literature / Gmb's Word For The Day: What Is Faith? by achibabes: 11:27am On Jun 26, 2013 |
Faith answers the question, 'How?' with one word: 'God!' The Bible says, 'Faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.' (Hebrews 11:1 NKJV) Notice: (1) Faith is a 'substance'. Some people see faith as something ethereal and 'otherworldly'. But it's not; we use faith every day. For example, you pick up the phone, call a department store, place an order, and they ask for your credit card number. Then they give you a receipt number. The receipt is what you hold on to while you're waiting for the item to arrive - it gives you the assurance that the product is on the way. And the same is true in the spiritual realm. God promises to answer your prayer, you believe Him, but your faith is the 'substance' or the receipt you hold on to while you're waiting. (2) Faith is also 'evidence.' Why would you believe that someone you can't see on the other end of a phone line would send you something just because you order it? Because it happens every day for others, and it's probably happened to you before. Therefore you're not being presumptuous or silly when you go to your letterbox expecting it to be there. You are not the first person to trust God and you won't be the last. 'Lord, You have been our dwelling place in all generations.' (Psalm 90:1 NAS) People have been trusting God for thousands of years and He has never let them down. His faithfulness is all the 'evidence' you need. So it's not foolish to put your trust in a God like that, is it? |

Literature / Gmb's Word For The Day: Break Free From Perfectionism (2) by achibabes: 6:55am On Jun 11, 2013 |
One Christian writer says: 'When my friend had her first child she applied all her career talents to making a smooth transition into motherhood. She kept a rigid schedule, napped her son on time, planned time for grocery shopping, and always managed to have a nice dinner prepared by the time her husband got home. She kept up this façade till she could handle the stress no longer. Finally, she cracked. She left the house a mess, forgot to shower, never went to the supermarket, and when her husband came home she handed him the dirty baby...and declared the house a dinner-free zone! What did her husband do? He fell to his knees in an exaggerated "Hallelujah!" then spun his long-lost wife into a magnificent hug. "You're back!" he declared...Her gifts, apart from being a great wife, mum and businesswoman, are her sense of humour, her sass, her fun, and her authenticity...all the things her husband missed when her personality went on a postpartum hiatus.' If you're 'trying to become perfect by your own human effort' (Galatians 3:3 NLT), it's not going to happen! 'We have different gifts, according to the grace given us.' When you strive to be somebody other than the person God intended, you end up feeling angry, inadequate and frustrated. God purposely gifted us all in different areas. Once you realise that, you can start to minister from your particular area of giftedness. Remember, every one of us is a work-in-progress, so cut yourself some slack. Instead of trying to become perfect, begin to thank God for making you one-of-a-kind. |
Sports / Usain Bolt Beaten By Justin Gatlin In 100m In Rome by achibabes: 11:14am On Jun 07, 2013 |
US sprinter Justin Gatlin beat six-time Olympic champion Usain Bolt in the men's 100 metres race at the Rome Golden Gala, Diamond League, which took place yesterday. Justin won Usain by one-hundredth of a second, that's like 1% of a second. Justin actually had to dip his head over the line to win in 9.94 seconds. Usain came in 9.95. wow! that's very close. Usain was making his first appearance in the Diamond League this season since his recent recovery from a hamstring injury, actually i could be as a result of the injury he had. Usain explained what happened to him: "I got the perfect start that I wanted, then about five steps in I stumbled a bit and that kind of threw my game off. My legs didn't feel like my legs coming into the straight. I guess I need to do more strength work. I think I just need time to get it back together but the fact I got a good start threw me off. At least I got under 10 seconds. "It is always a good thing to lose. You can figure how to step it up. I knew I wasn't in great shape but I'm not worried. It takes time to get back into shape and I didn't expect much from this race." Good to know that he is having his next race in the men's 200m in next Thursday's Diamond League meeting in Oslo, and i believe he should know he is no longer invincible. Others have buckled up, exactly the way some champions does.. he needs to get back on his feet. |
TV/Movies / #BBA 2013 Thechase Update: The Nomination List by achibabes: 10:52pm On Jun 03, 2013 |
Here’s a bit of the looming dissent. Bolt cannot stand Dillish, as she can’t him. Betty is begrudged towards Feza for putting her up for eviction. Bolt has beef for Anabel. Bolt lead the Nominations with five to his name. All of the Housemates stated his laziness as part of the reason that they choose him. He was followed by Hakeem who got four Nominations; Housemates cited his clear displeasure of being in Diamond House as their reason for putting him on the chopping block. Dillish, Betty, Feza and Annabel trailed closely behind him with three Nominations each. Bimp and Fatima weren’t nominated. Doesn’t mean either of them is safe as Feza reserves the right to replace a housemate with another. Here is how the Diamonds Nominated: Feza: Betty and Hakeem Dillish: Bolt and Hakeem Bolt: Dillish and Annabel Angelo: Feza and Bolt Bimp: Annabel and Dillish Nando: Motamma and Melvin Motamma: Hakeem and Bolt Annabel: Bolt and Betty Betty: Elikem and Feza Fatima: Hakeem and Dillish Elikem: Annabel and Nando Hakeem: Dillish and Feza Melvin: Betty and Bolt |
Religion / Gmb's Word For The Day- Speak Words Of Healing by achibabes: 8:37am On Jun 01, 2013 |
Matthew Henry describes grace as 'salt that seasons' our words and 'keeps them from corrupting'. Salt has two primary purposes: it preserves, and it adds flavour. So when the Bible says your words should be 'seasoned with salt' (Colossians 4:6 NIV), it means they should preserve and not corrupt, always be in good taste, and promote well being. James the apostle says, 'You can't draw fresh water from a salty spring.' (James 3:12 NLT) In other words you can't fake what's in your heart. It's not just a question of learning to say the right things; it's about having a right attitude, because what you say reflects 'the things that are in [your] heart.' (Matthew 12:34 NCV) Solomon says, 'There is one who speaks like the piercings of a sword, but the tongue of the wise promotes health.' (Proverbs 12:18 NKJV) Unless you are careful, you can end up talking yourself and the people around you into all kinds of problems. Mark Brazee says: 'We have the ability to speak words of faith, which cause miracles to manifest...Faith is a law and we operate in it with our words, either to our benefit or our destruction..."The tongue of the wise promotes health." We could turn that around and say, "The tongue of the unwise promotes sickness." It's your choice. You can line up your mouth and heart with what the devil tells you, or you can operate in faith by lining your mouth and heart up with God's Word, pointing towards His blessings. Faith works by believing and saying what God says.' So begin to speak words of healing. |

Chris brown confirmed he had broken up with rihanna due to the fact that he is too young to wife rihanna. From the interview chris had with Kyle and Jackie O, he explains “The way I look at it is… I’m always going to love that person, but people have differences, and people have different wants and needs.” “At the end of the day she’s a young girl. I can’t really be focused on wife-ing somebody that young… and I’m young too.” “I just got to step forward and be a man and be the best Chris Brown I can be instead of worrying about whoever else is going to be in my side pocket.” Yeah, whatever! am so sure they soon be found on the screen kissing again...lol

Politics / Olayinka: Heroine Of Our Time by achibabes: 8:10am On Apr 26, 2013 |
The entire occupants of Ekiti state were amazed when the passing away of Deputy Gov. Mrs, Funmilayo Aduni Olayinka, was announced in the state on that faithful evening of Saturday April 6. Although many of the people were aware she was sick and that she took two weeks earlier but nobody ever thought of death to her, but all believe all is going to be well, but she eventually lost the fight to breast cancer despite her struggles for survival. Olayinka's death at that her age (52) when she passed away, brought a moody emotion to the state and grief was shared among the people in the state. The late deputy governor who was fondly referred to as Moremi by members of the Action Congress of Nigeria because of the role she played during the struggles which led to the retrieval of what is described as a stolen mandate from the ousted administration of the Peoples Democratic Party led by Mr. Segun Oni. Olayinka, who returned to Nigeria after studying at the USA started her banking career with First Bank in 1986 and her last role in the banking sector was at ECOBANK where she was the Head, Corporate Services. She entered into politics in 2007 when she was nominated as the running mate to Dr. Kayode Fayemi on the platform of the Action Congress of Nigeria. While working at the United Bank for Africa, Olayinka was said to have influenced the establishment of a branch of the bank in Ado Ekiti, her hometown. Her roles in the struggles which culminated in the eventual declaration of Fayemi as the winner of the 2007 governorship election was highly remarkable. She was always at the forefront of protests by members of the party which they were known for. She was a woman of courage and she had great faith which made her a source of encouragement to members of the party especially whenever they were distressed. And these times of distress came on many occasions when Election Petitions Tribunals dismissed their case. She was described as a bastion of hope for members of the party during the struggle. Olayinka was always there to encourage party members including Mrs. Bisi Fayemi and other leaders who were not very strong emotionally. Olayinka, who was said to have been suffering from breast cancer since 2002 did not resign to fate expecting death like many would do. The Chairman of Action Congress of Nigeria in Ekiti State, Chief Jide Awe, described Olayinka as a courageous woman who fought cancer without allowing many to know what pain she was going through. He said that each time Olayinka returned from her treatment abroad, her next port of call would be Ekiti State and her next assignment would be on the rostrum to campaign. The state witnessed an influx of personalities coming to commiserate with the governor and the parents of the deceased. Among sympathisers who thronged the state are; Governors of Oyo, Ondo, Osun and Ogun, Abiola Ajimobi, Olusegun Mimiko. Rauf Aregbesola and Ibikunle Amosun respectively. Former Presidential Candidates, Gen. Muhammadu Buhari (retd), and Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, ex-Secretary General of Commonwealth, Chief Emeka Anyaoku, Borno State Governor, Kashim Shetima were among hordes of other sympathisers. The former secretary-general of the Commonwealth during his visit to Fayemi said that Fayemi was right to liken the death of his deputy to the death of a co-pilot during a flight. He said, “ I am here to pay my condolences to you and the people of the state on the tragic loss of your deputy. I read in some papers where you likened her death to the death of a co-pilot mid-air. You are right.”Read more on www.gistmode.com

Nairaland / General / 10 Ways To Remain Poor As A Man by achibabes: 2:52pm On Apr 25, 2013 |
Honestly, it was so funny when i stumbled on this true words but the fact still remains that true words are hard to come by, and when you jam one... take good use of it. There are ten ways you can remain poor or even if you're not poor and you pick up these ten ways, it's so sure you will be poor. lololol. Check out the ten ways to remain poor as a man. 1. Never wake up early… Keep stretching & turning in bed until you get too hungry to continue dozing if there are no bedbugs, why hurry to get up?? 2} Never plan how to spend your money.. Whenever you get money, start spending it right away and when it’s finished, you try to count and recall how you spent it.. 3} Don’t think of saving until you have real big money… How can you save when you earn so little?? Those telling you to save are not sympathetic to your burning needs.. 4} Don’t engage in activities usually reserved for the “uneducated “… How can you a graduate engage in petty trade or home based production?? That’s for people who never went to school. 5} Don’t think of starting a business until an angel comes from heaven & give U capital.. How do they expect U to invest before U get millions of dollars?? Even though more than half the businesses in your town were started with a few hundred dollar, you as a smart person can only start with millions. 6} Complain about everything except your own attitude: Blame the system the government& the banks that refuse to lend you money. They are all bad & do not want you to get rich. 7. Spend more than you earn. To achieve this, buy consumer product on credit & keep borrowing from friends & employers. 8. Compete in dressing. Make sure you wear the latest clothes among all workers in your offer.. Whenever your neighbour buys a new phone, u get one that is more expensive.. 9. Get yourself a nice second hand car that costs more than three times your gross monthly pay.. 10. Give your children everything they ask for since you’re such a loving parent. They should not struggle for anything because you do not want them to suffer that way, they will grow up lazy & hence poor enough to ensure they can’t help you in old age…

Webmasters / How To Improve Your Blog's Traffic by achibabes: 2:49pm On Apr 24, 2013 |
Have you ever experience something like this? I mean having this kind of questions on your lips, once or twice in your blogging carrier?” How can I improve my blog traffic, or what am I not doing right to get good traffic? Honestly, this is a normal song for most bloggers especially beginners, guess are you with me? I've been in this kind of dilemma before, that I almost abandon my blog because it was so frustrating… imagining someone having 20 blog posts and you’ve not started cracking 1000 unique page views per month. But when I made researches and seek the advice of other bloggers, I was given some tips that really worked and booted my page views to something like 10,000 page views per day, interesting right? This was how I felt that very morning when I woke up from my bed and I logged in to my dashboard and I met 10,089, I screamed as if it was something else. So, I just thought its of paramount importance to share with you people the tips I used that worked for me when i started blogging as a novice. Many new bloggers have sent so many emails to my box and asking me, that do I know any magic or strategies for them to use so they could get a reasonable traffic, all I did was to laugh because all it takes about blogging is patient which most bloggers don’t have… you can’t create a blog today and you want to hit 5000 page views in a day, never. You need to be patient and you must follow some commandments of blogosphere, which I obeyed and really worked for me… so the tips am about to share with you is what I personally have called the 7 commandments of blog traffic, when you follow this tips/commandment , it is gonna be a wow! Aftermath .Below are the tips:Read more on www.yourblogcoach..com

It was so horrible and disgusting when the news came to our news desk that two sisters which their name was with held matcheted their brother, Kokoette Effiom Effiong, to death because of their father's property. The police command in Calabar, Cross River State has now detained them. The two sisters were alleged to have killed their brother with a club and matchet in a fight which came following disagreement over sharing of money got from the sale of their father's land at Akpabuyo The incident happened during he weekend at Ikot Nakanda, according to what the family said the deceased was brutally matcheted which left a deep cut to the head and led to the death of the brother . “The man had deep cuts in the head and arm inflicted by Idak and Ikwo during a fight in the bush behind our house,” Otop Idebe, Kokoette’s cousin said “They claimed that their brother had made so much money from the sale of their father’s land while they were away and so when another parcel was sold they demanded that the money be shared equally among all the surviving children and when their brother objected, they were not happy which led to the fight.” However, Idak one of the suspects, told Vanguard: “On that fateful day, we were told that Kokoete gave the names of three of us, including one of our siblings, Efangha, to a native doctor for money rituals. “So when he came to our kitchen to cook cocoyam, we warned him not to use our kitchen again because we did not like sharing a kitchen with any man, besides that he sold our father’s land and had the gut to keep the money to himself without giving us our share.” Giving a graphic account of how the man was killed, she said: “Kokoette insisted on using the kitchen and a quarrel ensued and while still exchanging words, Kokoette went to the toilet in the bush behind the compound and Ikwo followed him with a big stick and a machete. After a short while, I heard Kokoette screaming, so I ran to the place to stop them only to see Ikwo using the machete on him.” Ikwo, in her statement to the police, said something different, noting that it was the deceased that trailed her to the bush, where she went to stool and they started a fight.
