I used the word "imply". I wrote "... to imply ...". I didn't write "... he said Goodluck's closeness to ...". Implication is different from direct accusation. I hope I didn't misunderstand your post.

He didnt say gej's closeness to yaradua killed him. He said gej could have improved things after the demise of yaradua, rather, he worsened the situation. Doesn't that depict 'badluck' to you? That's what u should understand about that part of the msg.

(Wo)men of God ought to talk with clarity. God should not author confusions. Now that you are trying to project your interpretations into what he said, would it not have been better if he talked in plain terms?

If you who sounds very literate is trying hard to interpret what he said, given there is a danger of possible misrepresentation, did you think those who were under his ministrations would understand what he meant to say?

Thank you for your critiques.

Fr Mbaka spoke 100% truth... Nigerians always claim they are the smartest and most intelligent people around the world and this is our big problem...

Fr MBAKA never said or meant that GEJ killed Yaradua... I urge you all to think deeply into his message. In English language, we have what is called figures of speech and idioms... When he talks of bad luck in oil prices, he doeesnt mean GEJ caused the fall in world oil prices... What he is reflecting is the consequences of bad leadership. A Corrupt govt that has failed and neglected his duties to his people... Poor leadership styles that has caused thousands of innocent lives.... A govt that failed to think about the future... Let us think deeply before making comments...

Politics / "Rev. Fr." Ejike Mbaka Got Only One Thing Wrong! by actYourDreams: 9:20am On Jan 03, 2015
The only one thing that "Rev. Fr." Ejike Mbaka has probably got wrong is that facts are truths! No, facts are not truths. I choose to be apolitical. However, as a Christian (i.e. someone trying to be like Jesus Christ) and a natural student of sociology, I choose to critique the 2014/2015 Crossover Message of "Rev. Fr." Ejike Mbaka. My views are based on these videos: https://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=youtu.be&v=jAN8Py7tiCo&t=56s&app=desktop; and https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-UR5g69sx9E&app=desktop.

No, facts are not truths. In the second video above, "Rev. Fr." Ejike Mbaka consistently reiterates the different forms of hardships daily faced by Nigerians. Those are facts! Nobody should dispute them! But it takes an average level of IQ to describe facts. A committed student of philosophy or sociology or marketing would even do better.

But are facts truths? No! In the second video, "Rev. Fr." Ejike Mbaka said Goodluck met Yaradua and then Yaradua died. This is a fact. But to imply Goodluck caused his death suggests a visit for a psychiatric diagnosis is needed. He further said Goodluck met our oil and then the oil became bad luck. Who knows what he meant to say? Anyway, it is a fact that oil price is dwindling worldwide but it is preposterous to suggest Goodluck is the cause of the price fall.

It is obvious that "Rev. Fr." Ejike Mbaka contradicts himself based on his expressed views on the #Chibokgirls. If you missed it, please review the videos again. It appears there is more to know on the sudden shift of his views. Although he tried to make us believe his messages were from God. He used "God" and "Holy Spirit" to complement his messages. But anyone could have done just that. Anyone who has an average level of smartness could blend facts with "God and Holy Spirit" and then market them to the suffering masses. The question is: which of the video messages was from God and which was from the Devil?

In a time like this, when the "religious leaders" sound confused, it is our duty to soberly reflect on what is likely to be wrong. Note that it was the same physical man supposedly preaching in the two videos but at different time points albeit in the same geopolitical space. Dear God, what has become of Nigerian version of Christianity?

Facts are not truths. Nigerians, please let us guard our minds with due diligence. Let us refuse to gullibly accept whatever any Nigerian Muslim or Nigerian Christian or Nigerian Traditional leader may tell us as we get ready to vote this February. Rather, let us responsibly vote by following our minds without the influence of any religious men that may try hard to massively control us. By so doing, even if our choice fails us, we will have the dignity, the integrity, and the courage to say "We voted what we thought was the best but not what we were told to be the best".

God bless Nigeria. God bless Nigerians.
Politics / Re: Father Mbaka Says Jonathan Is Surrounded By Corrupt Officials by actYourDreams: 1:41pm On Jan 02, 2015
It is now more difficult for one, even for those who claim to be the elects, to discern what exactly God is saying about Nigerian politics, if at all He is saying anything. Especially now that it appears the so-called (wo)men of 'God' sound confused.

Obviously, the comments on this thread suggest that a (wo)man of 'God' is (s)he who says or preaches what the masses expect. If this were to be true, then becoming a (wo)man of 'God' is no more than data science or pure marketing. I only need to be popular with the masses for me to be a (wo)man of 'God'. Really? Biblical examples clearly show that Moses was once popular with the masses, and this angered God.

We deeply need to carefully think on why the same man who once identified with the Presidency has just suddenly changed his position. Could it be that devil used him initially and God has now possessed him, or otherwise is the case? Or ... ?

Given the conflicting praises and criticisms coming from supposedly 'united' Nigerian Christian leaders, perhaps it is best for us to individually decide to be responsible for our vote!

Perhaps we should refuse to surrender our voting power to any religious leader that may want to use collective control or mass control therapy to tell us who to vote or not to vote for. Enough should now be enough with all these religious madness and mental slavery! We should begin to use our God-given intellects to reason as we plan to decide the next four years for Nigeria come Feb 14, 2015.

Politics / Re: I’m Coming Up With Anti-corruption Plan — Jonathan by actYourDreams: 7:20am On Jan 02, 2015
"We are coming out with programmes and plans to ..." is futuristic. I probably understand why people are angry that it is taking GEJ this long. I almost gave GEJ a benefit of doubt as it is obvious that corruption is a complex social malady that probably needs six or more years to understand. However, I doubt the sincerity of the Presidency as recent corruption-centric statements by them, GEJ and Okupe in particular, suggest that they are far from understanding what constitutes corruption. It is therefore reasonable to wonder if one can solve a problem she is yet to understand.

Religion / Re: I Am A Great Man, That's Why People Talk About Me - Chris Oyakhilome by actYourDreams: 2:04pm On Dec 11, 2014
If the Pastor said this, then I wonder if Jesus's measure of greatness by service, as found in Mark 10:43, contradicts what the 'man of God' has just said. If he indeed said that.

First, there are ambiguities in what he said. That the whole world, or almost the whole world, fearfully talk(ed) about Hitler never make or made him great, in the positive sense of greatness. People largely talk(ed) about him because he was evil, as portrayed in the history books. But Mr Oyakhilome seems to claim that Hitler was great, in the positive sense. This example most probably flaws his measure of greatness.

However, if one has truly served the multitude then they should genuinely care about the individual's well-being. So, we can conclude that such an individual is great in her own right.

But in the case of Mr Oyakhilome, it is clear that he has not served everyone who talks about him, hence if we judge by Jesus's metric for greatness, we cannot conclude that the population size of Mr Oyakhilome's critics correlate with his greatness.

Education / Re: Help A Brother Solve A Problem, Maths Gurus! by actYourDreams: 6:16pm On Sep 30, 2014
Your problem was not well-defined. Math is a concise language so when posing a math problem you need to be precise.

By saying "prove that x = 2", I will assume that your solution has to be a natural number. Hence, my following approach is based on the assumption that x must be a natural number.

Observe that 4^x = 2^(2x) and 5^x = (3+2)^x. Therefore your problem can be written as
2^(2x)+ 3^x=(3+2)^x.

Then apply binomial expansion to (3+2)^x, i.e.
(3+2)^x = 3^x + 2x3^(x-1) + (x(x-1))/2 * 3^(x-2)2^2 + ... + x*3*2^(x-1) + 2^x.

Therefore the question becomes

2^(2x) = 2x3^(x-1) + (x(x-1))/2 * 3^(x-2)2^2 + ... + x*3*2^(x-1) + 2^x, since the 3^x on both sides cancel out.

Then it easily follows that for the previous equality to hold x must be 2 or use mathematical induction to show that.

If NL had Latex capability I might have clarified further. However, Ihope my approach was clear enough.

gbengarock: Tho' simple it seems but i've been on this since i was in secondary school. It's a problem we created for ourselves by removing the square(power of 2) and substituting with 'x' in the pythagoras triple
As we all know that 3^2+4^2=5^2
note: ^2 denotes 'raised to power of 2'

Question: prove that x=2 in 3^x+4^x=5^x

thank you
Events / Re: As October 1st Approaches, How Will You Celebrate This Great Country? by actYourDreams: 8:03am On Sep 30, 2014
As it stands, it is delusional to think we are independent. It is a criminal madness against humanity to be in a celebration mood when the masses are gravely dissatisfied with our current status in the committee of Nations.

I recommend the government should be bold enough to declare October 1 a National Dependence Day (NDD), a day that all well-meaning Nigerians will set aside to reflect on how backward we have come as a Nation, how retrogressive we are as a Nation, and how large the magnitude of scorn we experience in the league of prosperous Nations.

Then this reflective mood should be used to launch a path that will emancipate every Nigerian, regardless of tribe, religion or education status. This will hopefully make every Nigerian truly independent!

Until every citizen of a Nation is truly, or almost truly, independent (in thinking, in actions, in material or spiritual intellects), there should be no Independence Day.

But if we must pretentiously celebrate, let us celebrate HOPE! HOPE that a day shall come that we truly will become independent. And even if we are not, HOPE that those that will live after us shall become independent.
donogaga: As October 1st approaches, how will you celebrate this great country? Lets hear your thoughts....

As for me, I will continue in my prayer for Love and Unity!!!!

You typed "Above all, I must confess that I applied with the hope that I would get to work somewhere in Africa". "Somewhere in Africa" may be somewhere outside Nigeria. So it seems right to say you had plans to live outside Nigeria. Right?
Sanchez01:
You've been stressing this too much and I find it worrisome. Above all, I must confess that I applied with the hope that I would get to work somewhere in Africa. I have always dreamt of delving into the investigative side of journalism. My purpose for declining was not because someone 'connected me', rather I have never dreamt of settling down outside of Nigeria. I wouldn't know where I'd be placed in the society class, maybe somewhere within the lower or 'partial' middle class. Forget the connection because it is not there. This is the resolve of a young man who believes travelling far byond the shores of his country could damage his plans.
Travel / Re: On Nigerians And The 'must Travel Mentality' by actYourDreams: 11:29pm On Sep 27, 2014
Your passion appears good. Your patriotism appears colorful on Nairaland. However, perhaps it is common sense not to retain hope for a country where evil religious leaders connive with evil political leaders to kill dreams of innocent citizens. If one may ask, where are those that had hope last year? If you knew you had only 70 years to live why wait hopefully on a country that is only ready to roll backwards, at an amazing speed?
Originalsly: I think lack of hope is the driving force behind the desperate race to go abroad....hope of completing one's education...hope of finding a job...hope of raising a family to live in comfort...not luxury...just comfort and peace....hope of having the bare necessities of modern life....24/7 potable water and electricity...hope of having good roads...all these hopes are dashed after so many promises. This generaion doesn't want to wait around like the last...they have lost hope and rather take their chances abroad.....where the risk is high..but not as high as the hope that somehow they will do better.

No one asks how the OP got her or his so-called offer. Did she or he just get the offer from the blue moon? Or she or he actually applied? If it was the former case, then OP is contributing to the corruption in the land or OP is not just telling us the full story. If it was the latter case, then OP once had the thought of traveling and he or she would not just tell us why she or he declined the "offer".
pansophist: @OP
Count yourself lucky to be in a position that rejecting a job offer from UN (which will be an escape route outta naija, dreams of the millions) means nothing to you.

My elder brother's friend lost his mum to a little sickness that would have been cured if she was in a good environment even Ghana. She lost her life because there was no electricity with a stupid escuse that the Generator is not working. Put yourself in his shoes and tell me if you wont wish naija was better.

Probably you havent experienced the bitter scourge that most Nigerians experience. Judging life from the yardstick of money only is very flawed and idiotic. How do you enjoy life without electiricty? okay lets assume you have money to buy generator, do you enjoy the noise and the deadly smoke it generates? do you enjoy the fact that your neighbour sleeps in the dark and his child is at risk of motor accident when they go to school alone every morning? do you enjoy the fact that you have to apply for visa everytime you want to travel out for a genuine reason? can you rely on the emergency response of the health officials if you have a minor accident? do you trust the police? do you enjoy the traffic and the litters on the streets? probably you havent experienced life abroad, you wont be saying all this.

As for people looking down on you simply because you reject an UN offer, how are their circumstance? that can be an escapism out of poverty and a direct upliftment to their offspring and family. Migration has also been a core characteristics of the human nature, if anyone choose to migrate, its their choice and their life.

Once again, be happy you got it all good.

Thank you OP for your thoughtful post.

Your post suggests you also once thought of traveling abroad. Or did you want to tell us you didn't apply for the UN offer? Were you just handpicked? If yes, then either someone you know was contributing to corruption in the country (for allowing someone who was never interested in a foreign post to be selected) or your case is just an exceptional one.

Next, traveling abroad or not should be a personal one. Everyone should have the right to decide where she or he wants to live to fulfill her or his passions. If she or he believes her birth country is not a good environment for her or his dreams, that individual has the right to artificially create an enabling environment for herself or himself. Especially when you know that a lifetime is 70 years on average and your birth country is not showing progressive signals.

Another concept I like to comment on is the concept of "making it". You typed "If you cannot make it in Nigeria, you may never make it elsewhere in the world". That may not be true. I agree that Nigeria is a land of opportunities. As you need to climb a tree to see clearly what is at the bottom, you may have to travel abroad for you to see clearly, appreciate fully and explore maximally the opportunities in Nigeria. Look around you in Nigeria, you may see that those making waves have once traveled abroad. Did you think of why?

I would suggest that to travel abroad to gain knowledge and experience that would make one contribute to the Nigerian society in any good way is not a bad idea. To want to travel abroad without a good and moral reason is terrible. And to encourage people to continually live till they die in a society filled with callous, inhumane, selfish and evil religious or political or civilian individuals is criminal.
Sanchez01: Somewhere in June, I declined a United Nations' offer of working as a Journalist/photographer abroad and I became a 'fool' in the eyes of people for not grabbing the opportunity. I have never considered travelling abroad though, and settling there for me is a big NO NO. Okay, maybe I could for my honeymoon, should I get married, that isgrin.

But on a more serious note, I have never fancied travelling abroad, largely because of the way most Nigerians idolize 'porting' to some so-called greener pastures when most of them have little or no sound educational background. I became the topic among some of my friends simply because I turned down a once in a lifetime opportunity.

Call me a bushman with a weird ideology. I believe whoever is capable of making it in Nigeria can do so anywhere in the world. Moreso, I believe I have a fair share to contribute to the growth of Nigeria rather than invest my energy in some other countries.

Few days ago, while I went for a haircut at a salon, my baby sister called to tell me of one of her friends who had sold all his properties to travel abroad, all in a bid to make it big. According to my baby sis, he had planned on going to Spain but failed after the boat he boarded capsized somewhere in Algeria or Morocco.

This was a young man who was good at what he does. I felt bitter at the salon and somehow I kept muttering to myself how a promising young guy as myself would choose to end his own life all in the name of travelling abroad.

Somehow, my words became the basis of a debate between myself and some guys at the salon. Unfortunately, I stood no chance as the odds was six guys to one.

The six who debated with me had one thing in common; they would sacrifice just anything to travel out of the country, even when it is certain that what would greet them over there remains unknown.

They complained of how backward Nigeria is and how other countries are doing fine, even South Africa!

One of them said, he knows he would end up taking care of the old folks and cleaning their poos wouldn't be a bother to him.

It was obvious I lost the debate in the midst of youths who think of nothing but living on the streets of Harlem and London with little or no plans.

Please understand that I'm not saying travelling abroad is bad. But must it be the last resort simply because you are hungry or jobless? Must it be the only idea in one's head when you are hardly educated

I could remember asking one of the guys at the salon a particular question; 'you claim the country is bad, if we all run abroad, who will fix Nigeria for us?' His response was quite shocking and unbelievable; 'see, Mr Nigeria, I don't care. My own be say make I just comot, no look back again. To sleep gutter for yankee better pass our own gutter.' I didn't find it funny at all. I thought about his statement after leaving the salon and it was obvious that most Nigerian youths would gladly jump at the thought of travelling abroad when they have no skills or talents to sustain themselves.

If we all think of leaving the remains of Nigeria behind just because she is bad, question is; who will repair what is left of her

Most countries all over the world will have Nigerians to thank for their growth and economy. Yet, ours still stay the way it is. It is high time we understood that life itself is not a unicorn on a rainbow. If you cannot make it in Nigeria, you may never make it elsewhere in the world.
