Politics / Tinubu’s Government Receives Fresh N535.6bn ($700m) Loan From World Bank by Adelola77(m): 2:30pm On Sep 23, 2023
Tinubu’s government receives fresh N535.6bn ($700m) loan from World Bank

The Federal Government under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has secured the approval of a fresh N535.6 billion ($700m) loan from the World Bank.

This was disclosed in a statement published on the World Bank’s website on Friday, September 22, 2023.

The new loan is to provide additional funds for an ongoing project known as the Adolescent Girls Initiative for Learning and Empowerment.

The statement read, “The World Bank approved additional financing of $700m for Nigeria to scale up the Adolescent Girls Initiative for Learning and Empowerment programme whose goal is to improve secondary education opportunities among girls in targeted states.

“The additional financing will scale up project activities from the current seven states to eleven additional states and increase the targeted beneficiaries to include out-of-school girls, those who are married, and those who have disabilities.”

It was noted that Nigeria had over 12 million to 15 million out of school children in the school- age group, with many of them in Northern Nigeria.

It was also noted that an estimated one million children were affected by increased insecurity around schools in 2020-2021.

The statement added, “In the seven AGILE programme implementing states – Borno, Ekiti, Kaduna, Kano, Katsina, Kebbi, and Plateau – the number of girls in secondary schools has increased from about 900,000 to over 1.6 million.

“Under the programme, over 5,000 classrooms have been renovated and over 250,000 eligible girls have received scholarships.

“The AGILE programme has supported construction and rehabilitation of WASH facilities in secondary schools and the installation of computers and solar panels which make attending school more convenient and conducive for both girls and boys. Life skills, systems strengthening, and advocacy are other key aspects of the program which address social norms impeding girls’ education.”

The World Bank Country Director for Nigeria, Shubham Chaudhuri, stated that, “Closing the gender gaps in economic empowerment by ensuring girls have access to education and skills is key for Nigeria’s development and economic prosperity.

“Nigeria’s working population will soon be one of the youngest and largest around the world, which means that investing in adolescent girls is imperative when addressing overall economic prospects and growth.”

The statement noted that aside from the girls that would benefit from the financing, others included over 15 million students and beneficiaries, such as teachers, administrators, families, communities, and staff in existing and newly constructed schools.

It added that the new fund would push the project to 18 states and help Nigeria achieve better education and health outcomes for girls.

The parents and caregivers of about 300,000 poor female students got N10,000 per term in six states as incentives for schooling.

The six states were Kaduna, Kano, Katsina, Sokoto, Kebbi and Plateau, and the funding was provided through the Adolescent Girls Initiative for Learning and Empowerment Programme.

The World Bank noted that the N10,000 per term was provided to the parents of poor female students for school attendance and re-enrollment.

It was also disclosed that N5,000 was given to each girl’s parent upon registration in the program.

It was also observed that this was the third loan facility approved under the administration of Bola Tinubu.

The first was approved on June 9, 2023, with a loan of $750m to boost Nigeria’s power sector.

The second was a loan of $500m to help Nigeria drive women’s empowerment, and was approved on June 22, 2023.

Celebrities / Mohbad Passed NECO At One Sitting - High School Principal by Adelola77(m): 9:33am On Sep 23, 2023
Mohbad passed NECO at one sitting, I was surprised when he joined Marlians – High school principal

Mohbad’s secondary school principal, Abidemi Faboye, has revealed that the late singer passed his National Examination Council Exam, (NECO) in 2015 at one sitting.

The proprietor of Abifab College, Ikorodu recalled his memories of the popular musician in an interview with The Punch. He said he was surprised to learn that Mohbad whom he knew as Promise, had become an artiste.

Faboye said when the Ko Por Ke crooner enrolled in his secondary school in 2013, he knew him as a quiet boy that was abit more mature than his classmates.

According to the proprietor, he found it hard to believe when Mohbad joined Naira Marley’s Marlian Music because he thought his former student would not be able to cope with their way of life.

He said; “I knew him when he enrolled in my school in 2013. His elder sister, Blessing, also graduated from the school in 2013. He was brought from a public school, and he was a quiet boy. He was tall and slim. It was years after secondary school that he added weight.

He was 17 years old, and was a bit more mature than some of his classmates. He wrote the National Examination Council senior secondary certificate exam in 2015, and made his papers in one sitting. He spent two years in the school, and there was a transformation in his life. He always called me, ‘daddy’. I always wanted my students to call me ‘Abifab’ or ‘Mr Abifab’, but he found it difficult to call me that. Whenever Promise (Ilerioluwa) called me ‘daddy’, I would tell him to call me ‘Abifab’; and he would just laugh.”

Faboye added; “When I heard that he was a member of the Marlian group, I was surprised. I doubted if he could cope with such group. Although he was mature, I felt he must have mixed with a few others who joined the record label. I prayed that God would be with him, because after he left school, we did not communicate regularly.”

Speaking on the type of student Mohbad was, the principal said; “He was in commercial class, and he had very good results. I would not say he was an excellent student, but he was above average. He was an easygoing person, who only played occasionally. He never made trouble.

He wanted to study Accounting, and I told him there was no way he could do that without mathematics. So, he improved in mathematics and financial accounting.”

Celebrities / Mohbad Is Worth About $690k, Naira Marley Owes Him About N300 Million – Olunloyo by Adelola77(m): 7:19am On Sep 23, 2023
Mohbad Is Worth About $690k, Naira Marley Owes Him about N300 million – Kemi Olunloyo

Controversial journalist, Kemi Olunloyo has called out singer, Naira Marley, accusing him of owing late musician, Mohbad about N300 million.

She added that Mohbad is worth $690,000.

She made these claims on her X, formerly Twitter, profile after declaring that she had done her homework.

Kemi Olunloyo wrote: “MOHBAD’S MUSIC ESTATE: After my research monitoring streams and the Imolenization CAC search, I discovered that Mohbad as of today is worth N700M roughy around $690,000.”

“Naira Marley owes him N~300M in song royalties On my X Spaces I mentioned the top 3 songwriters in Nigeria as Tiwa, Teni and the third person is actually Mohbad. Mohbad wrote almost 97% of all the songs at Marlian music.”

“Songwriters get royalties and I mentioned @SOCANFoundation as an example when I was a Canadian Grammy Judge @TheJUNOAwards.”

“Mohbad complained that Naira Marley was holding his royalties and streaming revenues as well as downloads. They pretty much had a BAD BUSINESS RELATIONSHIP.”

“Artist developers are needed in Nigeria. Remove the drugs and cultism and the industry will be super global.”

“As you can see Davido came to represent the brotherhood despite the fact that I warned him not to step in Nigeria.”

“Only the intelligent can understand that part. Nobody speaks against the brotherhood. Most music industry label bosses and the ones at the top have largely been silent.”

“They are all affiliated with the same cult. They can’t speak against Naira Marley.”

“My suggestion as Mohbad’s estate hits one Billion Naira in days to come is a court appointed probate lawyer to take over his music assets assuming Naira Marley releases the funds. It will be a bitter court fight.”

“He should have taken this to court a long time but people like Zlatan and Bella Shmurda told him to “hang in there.”

“These devil sent frenemies could have helped him. It’s like a woman being beaten by the husband and relatives tell her to stay in the bad relationship.”

“The toxicity will finally kill you. Drugs abuse, hypertension, alcohol etc developed.”

“All his major hits are in Marlian music plus all the songs he wrote for Zino and Naira all added to that N300M.”

Politics / Police Give Reasons For Firing Teargas At Mohbad’s Candlelight Procession by Adelola77(m): 11:07am On Sep 22, 2023
BREAKING: Nigerian police give reasons for firing teargas at Mohbad’s candlelight procession in Lagos

The Nigerian police have given the reasons for firing teargas at the candlelight procession for the late singer, Ilerioluwa Oladimeji popularly called Mohbad.

The death of late singer Mohbad led to a candlelight procession and tribute to be organised for him in the evening of September 21, 2023.

The candlelight procession which started at 5pm at Lekki Phase 1 gate and ended at the Muri Okunola Park in Victoria Island soon turned chaotic after many of the late singer’s fans refused to go home and converged at the Lekki Toll Gate.

Videos that surfaced social media showed mourners scampering for safety after teargas canisters were shot to disperse those who had converged in the area to protest the death of the deceased Afrobeat star.

However, the Lagos State Police Command on Friday reacting to accusations making the rounds that it dispersed Nigerians who converged to honour the deceased singer with tear gas, said it had an agreement with the organisers of the candlelight procession to end the event at 8 pm

The statement signed by its spokesperson, Ben Hundeyin noted that the organisers ended the candlelight procession that was held at Muri Okunola, Victoria Island, as agreed.

“It was clearly stated for the avoidance of doubt that in the interest of all Lagosians and considering the heavy use of the Lekki-Epe Expressway, the Lekki Toll Gate would be a no-go area.

“It, however, became disconcerting that after the procession duly ended at Muri Okunola park as agreed, with the police providing optimal security all through, some persons started gathering at the Lekki Toll Gate with intent to manifest objectives extraneous to the #justiceforMohbad initiative,” the police said.

Consequently, the police said they invited the procession organisers who joined the “officers on ground in persuading the people at the toll gate to disperse peacefully.”

He noted that the organisers equally sent out messages on social media asking Nigerians to go home, “clarifying in clear terms that it was not a protest but a procession which had been successfully concluded.”

The statement read partly: “This persuasion and appeal went on for hours, to which the police and organisers met defiance, both in words and action. At this point, all lanes in and out of Lekki had been totally blocked.

“Vehicular movement on the ever-busy expressway had been brought to a total standstill, leading to traffic build up.

“Having gone down this road before, having learnt from previous similar encounters, and having studied the pattern in the crowd, the red flags and early warning signs of total chaos and anarchy were discernible.

“Therefore, in fulfilment of our mandate to protect life and property, maintain law and order and prevent crimes, we adopted the least harmful method of crowd dispersal, following the failure of verbal persuasion – the use of teargas.

“Not a single live ammunition was fired! The police adopted crowd management best practices in engaging the unruly crowd. No life was lost, nor was there any injury.

“The Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command, hereby warns mischief makers that any person or group of persons found disturbing the peace of the state, under whatever guise, would be promptly arrested and prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.

“The Lagos State Police Command also appreciates the procession organisers for keeping faith with the Command and assures all supporters of #justiceforMohbad and Lagosians at large that it would continue to prioritise their safety and security at all times.

“Meanwhile, the ongoing investigation into the circumstances leading to the death of Mr Ilerioluwa Aloba is progressing well.

“The general public are, therefore, requested to avoid creating unnecessary distractions and give the Command the stable internal security space to undertake a conclusive and timeous investigation.

“In this process, it should be noted that the Lagos State Police Command has, as promised, been interfacing closely and regularly with all meaningful support groups of #justiceforMohbad.

“This synergy shall be sustained while the general public is assured that they will be continually updated on the progress of the investigation.”

Celebrities / Family Witches Killed Mohbad, Not Naira Marley – Prophet Ariole by Adelola77(m): 10:12am On Sep 20, 2023
Prophet Austin Ariole, the General Overseer of Goshen Freedom Tabernacle (GFT) located in Effurun, Uvwie Local Government Area of Delta State, has put forth a rather unconventional claim regarding the untimely demise of singer Ilerioluwa Oladimeji Aloba, widely recognized as Mohbad. In his assertion, he dismisses the notion that Naira Marley, a prominent figure in the music industry, was involved in Mohbad's death. Instead, Prophet Ariole alleges that it was the work of witches from Mohbad's own family.

These intriguing statements were made during a prayer session conducted by the Upper Room team of Goshen Freedom Tabernacle in Effurun, and they have raised eyebrows among those who follow the developments in Mohbad's case closely. Prophet Ariole, visibly upset about Mohbad's passing, directed some criticism towards the Church, which he believes should have provided a safe haven for the young artist and potentially prevented his tragic end.

In a surprising twist, the prophet, who typically distances himself from secular music, claimed that he had developed an interest in Mohbad's work. During a recent prayer session, he received what he believes to be divine revelation, stating, "I don't like worldly musicians, but I just picked interest in this one, and when I was praying last night, God revealed to me that Naira Marley did not kill Mohbad. Witches from his village killed him."

Expanding on this revelation, Prophet Ariole elaborated that these witches apparently possessed foreknowledge of Mohbad's promising future, which led them to conspire against him and ultimately end his life. This revelation, while both unconventional and controversial, has certainly added a new dimension to the ongoing investigation into Mohbad's death.

Within the context of this family tragedy, Prophet Ariole did not shy away from addressing what he perceives as shortcomings on the part of Mohbad's father. Despite many parents turning to spiritual refuges, like mountain prayers, to safeguard their children, Prophet Ariole expressed concerns that Mohbad's father may not have done enough for his son. He criticized the father's apparent focus on financial aspects related to the burial rather than the tragedy itself.

The suspicions surrounding Mohbad's death had initially pointed toward Naira Marley and Larry Sammy, leading to radio stations imposing an indefinite ban on Naira Marley's music. These allegations have certainly had a significant impact on the music industry and Naira Marley's reputation.

In response to growing public demands for justice in Mohbad's case, a nationwide rally has gained momentum. Simultaneously, the police have initiated investigations and are considering the exhumation of Mohbad's corpse for a comprehensive autopsy, aiming to shed light on the circumstances surrounding his unfortunate demise.

In conclusion, Prophet Austin Ariole's unconventional assertion has added a layer of complexity to the ongoing investigation into Mohbad's death. As the case unfolds, it remains a matter of significant public interest, with the potential to impact both the music industry and the broader community. The truth behind Mohbad's death remains a topic of intense scrutiny and speculation, with law enforcement authorities actively working to uncover the facts.

The international relocation payment (IRP) is designed to cover some of the costs of moving to England, including:

the costs of visas
the immigration health surcharge
other relocation expenses
Applications are open from 4 September to 31 October 2023. If you are eligible, you should receive the money by 31 January 2024.

If you miss this deadline, to remain eligible for the IRP you must apply at the next opportunity after the start of your job. Applications for teachers will re-open between January 2024 and February 2024.

You will need a teaching job to apply for the IRP. Check here to see UK schools that are recruiting.

Criteria for Teachers
To be eligible for the international relocation payment (IRP), you must meet all 3 of the following requirements.

Teaching subjects for teachers

You must be employed by and in an English state secondary school on a contract beginning in the 2023 to 2024 academic year (which runs from 1 September 2023 to 31 August 2024). Your contract must last at least one year and you must be working as:

a physics teacher

PS: Teachers who have started their teaching jobs can now apply for the international relocation payment (IRP)

Apply for Qualified Teacher Status (QTS)

Qualified teacher status (QTS) is the professional status teachers in England gain at the end of their teacher training. Schools use QTS as a measure of teaching skills and experience, so you will find it much easier to get a teaching job in England if you have QTS.

However, if you’re a qualified teacher from outside the UK, you can work as a teacher in England for up to 4 years without QTS

After that, you will need QTS to teach in many schools in England, although it is not a legal requirement in some types of school (for example, academy schools, free schools and private schools).

It’s important to note that, even if you decide to apply for QTS, you will have to apply for your teaching job and your visa separately. Click here to Apply for QTS

NOTE: If you are starting a teaching job after the end of October 2023, or have missed the 2023 deadline, you can express your interest in the IRP by emailing us at IRP.ExpressInterest@education.gov.uk. We will email you when applications open in 2024.

How to Apply For Teacher Jobs in UK

Find a teaching job in England. You can search for teaching jobs online at websites such as the UK government’s Teaching vacancies service. You can also contact schools directly.

Make sure the school is eligible for the IRP grant. Not all schools in England are eligible for the IRP grant. You can check the eligibility criteria on the UK government’s website.

Apply for the job. When you apply for a teaching job, be sure to mention that you are interested in the IRP grant. The school will then apply for the grant on your behalf.
Get a job offer. If you are offered a teaching job, the school will reimburse you for your visa, work permit, and relocation expenses.

Education / Lagos State University Makes Yoruba Language A Compulsory Course For All Student by Adelola77(m): 12:44pm On Sep 14, 2023
BREAKING: Lagos varsity makes Yoruba Language a compulsory course for all students, names it GNS104

The Lagos State University (LASU) in an obvious move to preserve Nigeria’s rich cultural heritage, has announced the inclusion of Yoruba Language as a compulsory course for all its students.

The new course added to the school’s curriculum from the 2023/2024 academic session is titled GNS 104 (Yoruba Language Studies).

LASU’s decision to introduce this course aligns with the broader national effort to preserve Nigeria’s diverse linguistic and cultural heritage.

The course, Yoruba Language Studies, is designed to provide students with a comprehensive understanding of the Yoruba language, one of Nigeria’s prominent indigenous languages.

It aims to equip students with language skills, cultural knowledge, and historical context, fostering a deeper appreciation for the Yoruba culture.

Speaking on the development, Professor T.M Salisu, the Dean of LASU Faculty of Arts and Humanities, expressed his enthusiasm for the introduction of the course. He emphasized its potential to strengthen students’ connections to their roots and promote cultural diversity.

“GNS 104 will not only enhance language proficiency but also encourage a more profound understanding of the Yoruba people, their customs, and traditions,” he stated.

The Yoruba Language Studies course will cover various aspects of Yoruba culture, including language structure, literature, history, folklore, and contemporary issues.

It will be open to students from all faculties as part of the General Nigerian Studies (GNS) program, reflecting LASU’s commitment to interdisciplinary learning.

Recall that the Lagos state assembly in conscious efforts to preserve Yoruba culture, heritage, and the use of the language in public places passed a bill in 2017 that made teaching of Yoruba compulsory for all schools in the state.

The assembly early this year also started using the Yoruba language for legislative activities.

He urged Nigerians to always implement the recommendations of Nigeria Hydrological Services Agency, to mitigate the effects of floods, stressing that the government was currently trying to see how to tackle its excesses.

Why I Got 0.01 GPA, Dropped Out Of Bowen University - Odumodublvck Reveals

The Nigerian rapper, Odumodublvck, has talked about why he dropped out of Bowen University.

Bowen University is a private Baptist Christian institution located in Iwo, Osun.

In a recent chat with Dadaboy, the rapper said he could not graduate from the varsity due to its “strict rules and limited freedom”.

Odumodublvck, born Tochukwu Ojogwu, said his parents wanted him to attend the private university despite his refusal.

The rapper said he intentionally missed exams and got a 0.01 grade point average (GPA) — a number that indicates how high you scored in your courses on average.

He also revealed that he dropped out of school without his parents’ consent and opted for a fresh start at the University of Lagos (UNILAG).

“I did not want to go to Bowen but my dad was like ‘You have to go to Germany or you go to UNIABUJA’. He was telling my mum I cannot go to a private school. And I told my mum, ‘see this BOWEN, you are gonna waste your money’,” he said.

“One day I came late for chapel, and they asked me, ‘why did I come late?’ I told them cause there was no water, there was no light to iron so he said ‘other people nko?’ I said ‘sir, did you come here without bathing?’ And they told us to kneel down. I said I am not gonna kneel down.

“They said they were gonna call the VC. I said ‘call him’. The VC came and said ‘I am gonna call your mother’, I said ‘call her’. I was not giving a f**k ’cause then I was like a raging lion, I did not wanna be there. I left that school.

“My GP was 0.01 cause I was missing exams on purpose. I dropped out of school by myself and stayed at my aunt’s side. I bought a diploma form from UNILAG because I could not go back to ABJ.”

Odumodu, a genre-blending singer-songwriter, signed with NATIVE Records and Def Jam Recordings in 2022.

He released ‘Declan Rice’ — a chart-topping single named after the English footballer

Education / JUST IN: UNIJOS Students Protest Over 300% Increment In School Fees by Adelola77(m): 5:55pm On Sep 12, 2023
On Tuesday, students from the University of Jos in Plateau State staged a protest by obstructing the roads leading to the campus.

Their demonstration was in response to the university's decision to raise tuition fees and the costs of various services offered by the institution.

The student protesters who were mobilized by leaders of the Students Union Government of the institution called for an urgent reversal of the hike in school fees and other services rendered by the University.

Armed with placards with different inscriptions such as “If your children can afford the money, we can’t”, and “We don’t want to drop out of school”, among others.

The students said Nigerians were already going through a lot of hardship, hence the need for the authorities not to complicate the already bad situation with further fee increments.

Crime / Sporadic Gunshots As NURTW Factions Clash In Abuja by Adelola77(m): 3:55pm On Sep 12, 2023
BREAKING: Sporadic gunshots as NURTW factions clash in Abuja

There was tension on Tuesday morning at the National Secretariat of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) in Abuja following a clash between two factions of the group.

Recall that the NURTW has been enmeshed in leadership crisis for some time.

The Musiliu Akinsanya’s Lagos Parks and Management Committee led by one Tajudeen Badru Agbede reportedly mobilised thugs from Lagos State and stormed the secretariat of the union located at Garki 2.

The thugs attacked the national officers including the president after which they forcefully took over the office.

According to Sahara Reporters, the incident occurred under the watch of armed policemen and operatives of the Department of State Service (DSS) deployed to maintain law and order.

But the situation took a new dimension on Tuesday when a group loyal to Baruwa from neighbouring states staged a protest with the view to dislodge the rival group but were prevented by the armed security operatives stationed at the premises of the secretariat.

Road users and passersby scampered for safety when policemen fired gunshots to disperse the irate mob.

One of the “ Moyo Lawal Leaked Viral Video ” clips is gaining traction and being shared across multiple platforms. For the reason that it is easily accessible over the internet. While it has been demonstrated beyond reasonable doubt that the film does in fact include sexual content, more investigations are still being conducted.

Conclusion about Moyo Lawal Leaked Viral Video Original
There are a lot of sites that say they can help you find the video, but not all of them can be trusted. Such useful websites on the web are scarce. The processes should just take a few days because the video has only recently started to circulate on social media. In light of this, the procedures will likely take several days to complete. This holds true irrespective of whether or not those who see the film online care about its backstory. Customers who shop online are just as interested in learning about a business’s history and current leadership as those who shop in brick-and-mortar establishments.

Little to no public information is accessible about the company’s owner or the service they offer, making informed evaluations impossible. The film is gaining in popularity everywhere. Viewers who come upon the clip should follow the steps outlined below. They will have to conduct their investigation discreetly because it is potentially sensitive. It should never, ever, ever, ever be shown in a public place.

Politics / FG Announces Plan To Build 7000 Houses For Nigerians In Seven States(full List) by Adelola77(m): 1:05pm On Sep 09, 2023
Tinubu’s government announces plan to build 7000 houses for Nigerians in seven states (Full List)

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the construction of 7,000 houses for Nigerians in seven states.

Vice President Kashim Shettima made this known on Friday, September 7, 2023, in Maiduguri, the Borno State capital during the commissioning of projects executed by the state government in the last 100 days.

According to him, the construction of the 7,000 houses is for states affected by conflict in the northern part of the country.

The states are; Kaduna; Sokoto, Kebbi, Katsina, Zamfara, Niger and Benue.

The former Borno State governor who was representing Tinubu said the Nigerian leader has approved N50 billion for the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) to kick-start the Pulaku initiative – a non-kinetic solution to the crisis confronting the people of the northwest region.

“The President has approved the construction of 1000 houses in Sokoto, Kebbi, Katsina, Zamfara, Kaduna Niger and Benue, with all the ancillary facilities of schools, clinics, veterinary clinics and ranches for the Fulani community; in Kaduna and Benue, he insisted that all the victims must be carried along,” Shettima was quoted in a statement by his media aide, Olusola Abiola.

Shettima said all parts of the country will benefit from the developmental strides of President Tinubu, while also stating the Federal Government’s plan to re-ignite wheat production.

He added that President Tinubu was aware of the challenges confronting Nigerians and would make efforts to address them.

“Issues confronting Nigerians will be addressed. We will use all available vehicles to fix things. President Tinubu means well for this country and he is determined to change the fortunes of the nation for the better,” he assured.

“He is a person filled with a lot of empathy for the less privileged in the society. Some of the painful decisions taken by the government were products of the circumstances we have found ourselves in.

“Be rest assured that in the coming weeks and months, this government will unveil a lot of projects and programmes that will touch the lives of many.”

Travel / Details Of Nigerian Lady Who Died Aboard Egypt Air Flight To London Emerge by Adelola77(m): 11:26am On Sep 09, 2023
The Nigerian lady who passed away aboard an Egypt Air flight on her way to London, United Kingdom, has been identified.

The lady, identified as Remilekun Toyosi Meshioye, left Nigeria for London aboard Egypt Air MS 876 flight to Cairo on Monday through the Murtala Muhammad International Airport (MMIA), Lagos.

It was learned that Meshioye was going to London on a student visa and boarded Egypt Air on a connecting flight to London via Egypt Air MS777 the following day.

But she was said to have died aboard the flight, and her corpse was allegedly dropped off in Cairo, the Egypt Capital, by the airline.

Family Speaks

The family of the deceased issued a statement on Friday signed by Olufunmilola Olaniyi-Alabi, the elder sister of the deceased and demanded that the corpse of their daughter be released to them by the airline.

Olaniyi-Alabi said the airline didn’t inform the family, but rather they got a message from the consular office in Cairo informing them of the death of their daughter on board the flight.

She stated that the family has also demanded that they need to know what exactly happened and how to get her corpse back to Nigeria.

She said, “ My sister left Lagos for the UK on Monday at 14:00 via Egyptair line and eventually died during her transit from Lagos to Cairo, according to the little information we got.”

Olaniyi-Alabi said they called EgyptAir customer care and all other contact phone details on their website, but no response all through Wednesday, and when the phone was picked up, they quickly cut it.

“It was only once that a man picked up the call that we put through to the EgyptAir Region Office in London, and he said the London office is not aware of what happened and they don’t have information to share with us.

“So we were left with no choice but to report to the UK Police Department on Wednesday, and they later confirmed to us that our sister was not in the UK. They advised us to contact Cairo or Lagos airports. We contacted the agent who sold the ticket to her, and the agent sent us proof that she did not board the plane going to Heathrow from Cairo,” she explained.

Olaniyi-Alabi disclosed that it was at this point that they intensified their efforts as regards trying to get in touch with Egypt Air.

She said: “Myself and my husband reside in Leeds, UK and later travelled to London (Heathrow) on Wednesday night to get to London on Thursday morning, and we demanded to see the EgyptAir regional manager in their London office, who made some calls on Thursday afternoon in her office to their Cairo office.

“She later informed us that Remi fell sick in the plane, and on landing in Cairo, they rushed her to the hospital in town, where she later died. The effort to obtain more information from her was not quite successful as to how she died. She said the Nigerian Embassy has been informed, and they are the ones that should have contacted us. She later called the Nigeria consular (Saliu Agraza).

“I strongly feel that EgyptAir should have contacted us as the passenger’s next of kin against us struggling to get information which as of this time that I am writing, they are yet to provide to us.

“We spoke to the Nigerian Embassy in the person of Saliu Agraza, who responded that EgyptAir only informed them on Tuesday that Remi was dead and handed over her body to them but did not have any other information or any contact of her relatives.

“EygptAir further said that only the Nigerian Embassy in the person of Saliu, as a Nigerian Consular, will be able to write and demand what happened on the plane and at the airport to Remilekun and request for all her belongings and documents that they have in their possession, including the CCTV footage in the plane and at the airport.”

She alleged that Egypt Air is hiding the truth of what happened to her sister on the plane and on landing at the airport on Monday night and does not want to take responsibility for what happened to her.

“As a family of Remilekun, we are demanding for her body to be returned back to Nigeria by EgyptAir at their own expense, and they should return all her luggage back to Lagos where she boarded the plane on Monday 4th of September,” she added.
