Music/Radio / Re: Who Are We Fooling? Nigerian Music by adim(m): 3:11pm On Jul 25, 2008 |
Honestly, as someone previously said Hip Hop is American Culture and Nigerians trying to emulate it are gonna be more American than Nigerian. Speaking Pidgin or a Nigerian Language in a song, even referring to Nigerian themes in a song is Nigerian enough for me in a Nigerian R&B or Hip Hop artist. if your looking for real Nigerian Music MTN top Ten is not the place (They are catering to a mainstream audience). It is a shame that modern day Nigerians prefer Hip Hop and R&B to our conventional, drum beating and masquerade dancing but this is a reality and to compete in the global market the most Nigerian they can go is lyrically or add a tinge of Nigerian sounding beats in their music. |

Computers / Re: Google Desktop by adim(m): 1:32am On Feb 16, 2006 |
I fell in love with it the first time i used it but with time when it indexes every single thing on your computer, when you search for a file it gives u a lot of garbage as in lots of indexed web pages that ypu dont care about which obstructs you from finding what you are looking for |

Programming / Re: Web Programming: Where Do I Start? by adim(m): 1:10am On Feb 16, 2006 |
First of all u have to get ur hands on a web designing software such as micrososft front page or macromedia Dreamweaver. The latter is far more superior to its microsoft version but if it is to expensive and finding it is too hard, only then should you result to using front page. After u have the software down you should go pick up a book, like html for dummies. This is a really good book to start with because it breaks down everything to the simplest form so ur background is very strong. Once u have any HTML book though they will take u through step by step in creating basic websites. In order to be a really good webdesigner you have to have lots of experience and experiments, do not give up if its hard in the beginning, things will seem to become easier and become part of u sooner than u expect. Back to the software, both of the softwares i recommended above both have three parts while making a webpage, you could work soley on code or on design or both at the same time. Knowing that you are just starting it i would advise you to focus more on the design part, it makes it easier for you to create what you want. it is known as WYSIWYG (Meaning What You See Is What You Get). This means that what ever you type or the pictures you put in your design would look like on the web. well i dont want to get you bored or over saturated if u have another question dont hesitate to ask |

Dating And Meet-up Zone / Nigerian Social Networking Site [igbadun.com] by adim(m): 2:11am On Feb 09, 2006 |
www.igbadun.com is a social networking site focused on Nigerians but not exclusive to Nigerians. It was created by Nigerians who believe that they could supply very high quality internet interaction compared to some already popular social networking sites around. This site is three weeks old and has approximately 300 members and counting. The name of the site iGbadun which is a yoruba word meaning enjoyment was not a coincidence. That's what the creators of the site are eager to bring to the table of nigerians all over the world, a place where no matter where u are u still have access to nigerians worldwide and still know what's going on back home and if you are in Nigeria it is a place where you can make new friends and keep existing friendships fresh. Personally i think the site is impressive an all of you should check it out. igbadun.com could be the next step to connecting people see for yourself |

Computers / Google Plans Wireless Internet Network To Cover Abuja by adim(m): 1:49am On Feb 09, 2006 |
Did You Hear About Google Coming To Nigeria? I just recently read an article that Nigeria has accepted googles proposal to make the whole pf Abuja totally wireless. Google has been thinking about this for a while, they claim it is their social responsibility to help the world improve internet wise, and they are making seven African cities totally wireless and Abuja, Nigeria happens to be one of them. I am really excited about this because finally we are going to get some decent internet in nigeria and generally more connectivity for nigerians = more creativity and will lead nigeria to vast improvements. |
Computers / Re: Make An Assessment Of This Website As It Is by adim(m): 7:59pm On Feb 03, 2006 |
The site is simple, and that is what it is meant to be regarding the contents of the site. On the home page there is a part at the bottom of the page that isnt hyperlinked properly at least the rollover isnt complete. I dont know if that is intentional. it is the part that says official use only the ly in the only doesnt change color. besides that i think u are ready to roll It is not an emergency but maybe later on u shud work on your photogallery, get better/ more respectable navigation and work on the quality of the pics on the site Then it will be totally professional but keep in mind it is above average now |
Web Market / How To Advertise Your Website Without Spamming? by adim(m): 7:33am On Feb 03, 2006 |
As a webdesigner/Admin I have made may sites and have driven various ad campaigns for them and something I have learnt is never to spam in order to gain popularity for your site. By doing so you are unleashing several consequences upon your self. - If you send emails to random people continiously they will list your domain name as spam and all the popular mail servers will automaticall redirect your email to spam mail - If you go to forums such as nairaland and post randomly in order to get attenstion from the users the Admin can either kick you out, get angry and erase every post you put on the site or simply just have a replace word for what you are advertising. Spamming is a bad way to go about advertisment, us as webmasters have to come together brain storm on effect ways to reach the market out there. Any ideas? |
Webmasters / Re: Choosing a Domain Name? Factors to Consider by adim(m): 6:31pm On Feb 01, 2006 |
For me when ever i am choosing a domain name, i always try to pick something tha is a .com just as seun said, it is more respected than any other to internet users. I also try to get a catchy name especially to the target market, For example i have an alumni website for my high school and it is called www.redbrixx.com (because the school is totally made out of red bricks and to the students of the schoolit makes total sense. Thirdly try to keep it one word or a short two word phrase like nairaland.com or redbrixx.com you will be suprised how easily forgetful internet users are of the name of the website they have been too |
