Eaglesfashion:
Greetings house.

My spouse is a PhD student in Melbourne (on fully funded scholarship). We could not go together because we were not able to pay for family OSHC .
Note :We are a family of three (husband, wife and a two year old daughter)
My question is this:
1. Can we pay our OSHC from the savings she has gotten in Australia without we being required to show an Australian prove of fund.
2. Or if it's possible to show a prove of fund from our joint account in Nigeria as the money we have presently in Australia can only pay our OSHC.
Thanks

I was a fully funded PhD candidate at the time I invited my family a few years ago. From memory, the primary proof of funds she has to show from Australia is her PhD scholarship.

Hello everyone,
Please I need advice

I have BSc in Agriculture and graduated about 12 years ago. I've worked for some years in our family farm and presently I'm working with a pharmaceutical company.

So I'm thinking of applying to switch my course to study BSc Nursing in Australia. I've emailed some unis in Victoria and was told they can give me admission despite not being a fresh graduate.

One of the schools I emailed suggested I apply through their agents in Nigeria but after speaking to their agents I'm totally confused as they claim it's not possible to apply to study since I don't have experience in nursing, gap between my previous study is wide and age isn't on my side as I'm in my mid-thirties.
She later suggested management course, business or they can try msc Agriculture but can't assure me of 100%.

I know for a fact masters in management or business isn't a good pathway.

Please What do you recommend I do ?

I am currently in Australia as a Citizen through study pathway. Getting admission into Nursing in Australia may be challenging as they prefer onshore candidates. What I have seen people do is to get to Australia through the easiest possible admission and then switch. However, you may lose some of the tuition paid especially if you are switching to another school. It's recommended that you apply for a course on the occupation list in case you find it impossible to switch, say the Agriculture.

If so, why is there a request for payslips as evidence of earning the equivalent of the mentioned amount?

Let them take payslips out of the equation please grin. The payslip of the average Professor in Nigeria reeks of poverty to say the least, especially when converted to USD! Imagine a Professor with many patents, publications, and awards earning 416k/month (just about $1000 @ official exchange rate)!

The payslip is to confirm you are working and earning money in your nominated field. The said amount is in $AUD and includes all payments (including bonuses and tax). I wasn't earning that much when I was nominated...and I am still not earning it now but the curve is going up (which is what they are interested in). Therefore, you can't be denied because your employment letter is not showing the approximately #75 million naira pay per annum.

Well, we all know that Professors and several professionals are poorly paid in Nigeria, courtesy of per month payment instead of per hour!

I read about this some time ago. Quite an interesting call, but how can any interested applicant from Nigeria possibly meet this tall requirement: "Candidates should have the ability to attract a salary at or above the Fair Work high-income threshold of AUD162,000"? grin

You are not expected to be receiving this amount per annum at the time of your nomination/application - you will be assessed for future potential to earn this much. So, your current job and position, qualifications (especially MSc and PhD), innovative talents, international recognition/awards in your field, publications etc can be evaluated to meet the threshold.

Has anyone heard about the Global Talent Visa Program in Australia?

This pathway allowed me to obtain my PR within a week with no skill assessment, no English test and no regional localizing!
You can read about it:

https://immi.homeaffairs.gov.au/visas/working-in-australia/visas-for-innovation/global-talent-independent-program

If you consider yourself competitive enough, I am happy to answer a few questions.

Timelines: Student Visa (Research) in 2015, PhD (2019), Post-Study Visa (2019), PR (2020), Citizenship (2022), Passport (2022).

Do you mean for my family dependent visa? If yes, then #88,000 paid for wife, 6,400 for her Telep office charges, 5,400 for each child...No visa fees for children as it is 574 as earlier explained. Then, Medical charges. Also the OSHC must have been paid. For OSHC, it was AUD 8,900 as it was a family cover with MediBank. Hope this helps.

My family dependent 574 Visa has just been granted after 10 days of submission. Now they can join me in Oz. Thanks everyone.

NOTE: The Lagos Telep office collected visa application fees for my kids and Pretoria office is now refunding same with explanation that kids of 574 Postgraduates are not expected to pay for visa. Funny enough, Lagos office refused to collect the form without the payment. So, take note if you are in same shoe as some staff members in Lagos office really do not know all that is involved unfortunately.

As regards to OSHC tnz, these are the comparable annual price (in june, 2015) i got online for single: AHM - $407, medibank - $510, Bupa - $534, Allianz - $553. the doctorate research program am embarking on will last for 3 yrs, i want to believe that my OSHC price will be times 3 of any of the above fee.
please house, i need more elaboration on this.

read more on https://www.oshc-compare.com.au/oshc/

Normally you are expected to finish within three years as your scholarships wont go beyond this but the normal max period for full time is 4 years and this should be stated in your offer letter. Visa will be granted few more months beyond this in case you need little more time . So, here is the break down; 4 years from school+ few months from embassy (say 8 months) = 4.8 yrs. Normally, your OSHC must cover this entire period, no negotiation!

I paid way less for a family of five. I used BUPA and paid $4475. Medibank is just too pricey.

Is this quoted amount for a year or two? My quoted medibank amount will cover the entire period of PhD program which is usually 4yrs plus. $13000 will normally cover 4.8 yrs. You may want to recalculate now and lets see if BUPA is cheaper! It will be awesome if it is cheaper.

I will like to know if graduate research scholarship from your school includes OSHC, if not how much did you pay.
cc: futureDon, aduktus.

Graduate research scholarships are of many types and sources but most do NOT include OSHC! The amount to pay depends on whether it is a single or couple or family (husband+wife+1 baby or more) applicant. Amount to pay also depends on the school and the insurance company involved.
For family as example, 2015 cost is abt $13,000 while single is around $3000 and couple $7000 for Medibank. Well, 60% increment occurred in 2015; hence, the high cost!

Future Don and the house please i have urgent questions.
I have just been sent my eCOE, hence i am set to lodge my visa application. My questions are
1) Is it possible to do both medicals and lodge the application almost simultaneously(i intend to lodge my application on Wednesday and do medical test on Thursday this week or vise versa)
2) Please what is the address of the hospital they do the medical test in Lagos (i read something about Fatayi clinic).
3) In the Check list for a 574 visa i saw something like official bank documentation. Am i still going to provide this despite i am fully funded by post graduate research scholarship?
4) Please i will like to know the exact visa application fee as well as medical fee.
5) My Research period starts by 1st of July, how viable is it to get the visa out around that period.

Thank you house as i anticipate ur swift response.

I was in your shoe sometimes ago having gotten fully funded PhD program..Here is my take:
1) Do medicals first and wait for like 2 days then submit application.
2) Address? It depends on where u want..Abuja or Lagos? check web for address.
3) You do NOT need to provide bank statement..it doesnt affect the outcome. You have been front paid if you are on scholarships!
4) Medical fee? depends on location! Visa fee? Check web..but make sure your denominations are of at least 2006.
5) Research can start anytime like 6 months before your confirmation, so go ahead and lodge! No worries.

I heard you had a bit of snow down in Tasmania, and that the weather is in the single digits....I don't envy you guys o. It's about 15degrees here in Townsville, very windy...not exactly enjoyiong it. It's like someone has the AC on the coldest, then directed a high powered fan at me.

We do have snow on mountains very close to us but not in the city. Right now it is 7 degree. .quite cold! Another issue is the wind and breeze from the sea..they make the coldness very penetrating...for Africans and Asians, it is weird!

@Aduktus: Please what are the prospects of getting good and affordable accommodation in an area close to UTAS/AMC?
This aspect is still pending for me. Have tried searching via gumtree and real estate.com but to no avail. Pls if you've got any info that may be of help to me, I will be glad to work with that. Am looking at a One or two bedroom flat since am coming over with family. Whatever info it is, kindly spill it. Enjoy your evening.

The area is close to the central...abit expensive but can choose to stay away abit ...dont worry, Hobart is not a big city, you will be fine staying in most areas. For shared apartment ( btw $120-180/pw), whole flat (between 350-500/pw) depending. You may get something cheaper. You may want to contact agents as well.

Even those that truly have dependants, have to supply a plethora of docs to support their claim. I am of the opinion that your friend does not want you to come over and wants to sabotage your application....leading to a refusal, a possible ban of 3 yrs if not more, and a permanent stain on your travel history. It will follow you for life! And if you do make it here and want to apply for PR/citizenship, it's just gonna follow you right through. What she wants you to do is human smuggling. If it were the US, it would attract a permanent ban.

@bosslady.

I have a friend here doing PhD with me in Tas and she wants to apply for her PR. She doesnt have work experience related to her degrees and her field is on CSOL. In Tas, it is said your profession doesnt have to be on the list to be nominated as long as you have a Tas degree. Then, we were abit confused there! How will she do assessment with a body, say..Vetassess..., when she doesnt have prior work experience? Please clarify.

Please guys I need advice. I have a friend in Aussie, I am supposed to stay with her for a while before I find my footing when I get there. She has sasked for a favor and here it is. She wants me to withdraw my application I had submitted since 2 weeks now and reapply again including her cousin as a my dependent. She promises she has a contact in student visa that assures my visa but I can't go through that visa stress again. I need her help too when I get there so is it too selfish not to want to withdraw my application? I know for a fact she has a contact but the hassles too much abeg.

Has anyone you known withdrawn and reapplied without hassle. If there was a way to skip some steps is wat I am asking

Who is scaring you that you need a help to get your footing here? Forget it. You can survive on your own although it may look hard especially if you are not coming with enough money to last you for a month...but many have survived it! DO NOT WITHDRAW YOUR APPLICATION! Nobody can influence a bad application for oz! If your application is good, your grant is sure..so forget intimidation! I dont think any of the guys already in Oz employed any influence to be granted. Avoid complications. Avoid more money to spend! Avoid more documentation! Avoid higher possibility of visa rejection!
