There is no need to refer to a Nigerian soldier has a 'Yoruba son'. He was a soldier and following the orders of NAHQ. He wasn't taking orders from the 'Yoruba HQ'. Thank you for the anec-dotes.

I love Nigeria and Nigerians. Funny how this my friend here believes that the Yoruba man in question was a Nigerian soldier and as such should not be referred to as a Yoruba son yet does not see anything wrong in referring to the majority of participants of the first coup as Igbo army officers just to justify what happened after that coup.

Seems we have a lot of problems with consistency here. We should be fair in our criticisms and stop playing games with serious issues just to promote or defend ethnic or tribal interests.

Nigeria leaders will not discuss the war and the events that led to it because they do not want their roles and actions examined.

100% correct. Yet, they fail to realize that the more they hide, deny or lie about what really happened the more the younger generation will be told the truth and when you try to reconcile the lies with the truth anger will naturally be the result.

Anyway whatever, i never started posting in web master section to compete with anyone, more or less you.

Think i do think as a programmer, when its time to program and talk like a human, when posting on human issues.

Why don't you start by developing a software that can alter the mind set of people like me. I think i am not close to you but i am 20 years past. And if you don't stop approaching issues in the same vane you think i do, the Waterloo advise may as well become a reality before a twinkle of an eye.

Your comments are neither here nor there. Not that your rantings matter though, just thought you needed to be reminded about reality. Good to see your posts becoming more humble.

@Afam. Its less busy peeps that try to raise beefs where non exist. If you feel there are more mouth experts that actual guru's i think you should rethink, cause its not all that are good that enjoy showcasing their skills in dead forums.

You seem to be confused here. I am responding to your post so don't bring in other people showcasing their skills logic here.

Since you are a moderator, i don't expect anything less, i think it came just the way it is, and maybe you may meet your waterloo, after spending a lot of time and years protecting the heritage of a forum rather than improving your personal skill. (Yawatide also did so).

More confusion. Who told you I am a moderator? I am not, have never been and will never be on this forum. When it comes to my skills trust me with the way you process information and comprehend issues I can assure you that even if I stopped developing software and give you 5 good years you will not come close to what I know and what I do in that area.

You must train your mind to think in a logical manner devoid of unnecessary sentiments.

My friend, i hope you don't take all this personal also, just an advise, as i am never offended. Don't think i was.

na_so:

@Gbawe.
First I need to state that i respect your views so much.Check my vote on the poster of the year on political matters for last year. I however differ on the issues here.

First we seem to have the same picture of the ideal, desired destination for the Nation, however the process you advocate seem to be undermining the formidability of the enemy. We need to be smart enough to know what is ideal and what is achievable and how. You seem not to appreciate the fact that more often than not if you cant play the politics up there, you cant get the dividends down to the common man.Why ? becuase even as a president there will be no formal backing from the necessary arms of government to see good policies through.

I have learnt a lot here on NL no doubt so I do not want to be drawn into any argument about peoples posts here, but truth be told we are all(most) faceless here on NL, we all  find it very easy to speak our minds and most times exoberantly(I am eqaully culpable so dont get me wrong). How many of us find this same  ease of expression before our bosses at work when they seem to err, like we do here when the president or some minister up there fumbles? selah.

The business here is politics and not just mere emotional outbust. While politicians differ  ideologically as to the dividends to the common man and the very motive for politicking, it remains that in even the most advanced societies credible programs are shot down sometimes. why? simply becuase politics is (and will remain) a game of numbers to serve different interest.

As we speak he is trying  to run the show at the very height of the nation's politcal space with contending tribal, religious, business and personal interests.
The forces against him  can be undone but we must admit they are formidable. My point is that Jonathan seems to be on course. He seems not to have men of his own that would count for much when push comes to shove. So he is trying to use the enemy's men against themselves.Again I ask how can a Jonathan who is a featherweight (politics and military) survive onslaughts from the IBBS, IBORIs , SULTAN etc without getting some seasoned men albeit evil like OBJ and Danjuma on his side? tell me.

Dora submitted the controversial memo that hastened the hesitant NASS to act. Almost everyone applauded her here on NL. Now the CABAL has fought back asking for her resignation. Check the posts here and you will count scores of people who hailed her initially and now eating their words. Besides what good will it do Jonathan if he  has all the support here on NL and do nothing to rally men in "high places" behind him?

I strongly think he will remove Dambazzau very soon with a more trusted soldier most likely Christian from the middle belt and probably push a hausa-fulani muslim to CNS  or CAS but he seems to be using this Gusau issue to build a case so that when he moves out the COAS , it will easily be explained as a case of national expediency and not necessarily religion, tribe or Yaradua. The task here was to remove MUKTAR which he did . He can even make the present Security adviser less relevant by subtly empowering parallel security details around him. But the point is Muktar is gone and gone for good. Like it or not it is a blow to UMYA camp.

Have you asked why someone like Yayale  and Sule lamido seem to be giving Jonathan some support lately? It is becuase the possibility of a VP slot stares them in the face and makes it easy to use them against certain organized groups. An ambitious Gusau may not be a bad idea afterall. He could be very useful in thwarting the moves of the IBBs to put himself in pole position. He will be taken care of later. This is definitely a better option rather than making a choice that will make it easy for the entire Northern bloc to aggregate energies and fight you.

100% in agreement with the above. Well stated.

Frank-C:

On a very serious note, what will Mr Yakubu Gowon be thinking right now? Yester-years it was the Igbos, today, it is her assailants home state. Before our very eyes, the cycle will go round. There are rumours about Ibadan. And you know what?,  there is nothing you can do since it advances the course on one Nigeria.

If more villages will be wiped out in Jos or Ibadan or Hadeja or Damaturu, so be it and the status quo must remain because it serves the interest of One Nigeria. And there is no better time for 'elders' to watch their tongue than now because it is only a dog that eats back its vomit.

While you think about it, remember that 'It is better that we move slightly apart and survive, it is much worse that we move closer and perish in the collision'. It was the words of a sage about fifty years ago. If you have never shed tears about 1966, don't even try it now, otherwise, you will come across as an unprincipled character. I mean including Mrs Clinton.

Excellent response!

I agree with the Sultan here. The killing of any innocent person by anyone, group or nation is wrong irrespective of the person, group or nation doing it.

Unfortunately, those who control the media have succeeded in making us belief that the acts by weaker (in terms of arms or army) guys are acts of terrorism whereas those committed by the stronger (in terms of arms, army or nations) are merely collateral damage.

I see the likes of Hezbollah, MEND, US, Israel, IRA, muslim fundamentalists in the north, armed robbers, assassins etc as one and the same.

No innocent person should die and those who kill innocent people should be killed.

Nobody said the guns used were sophisticated assault rifles. Nigerian blacksmiths have been making locally made guns for over 50 years now.

There's no indication that any overly sophisticated attack plan was used. Nigerian tribes were fighting wars 400 years ago, it doesn't take a millitary mastermind to cook up a plan to sneak around static army locations and attack a defenseless village.

It all still boils down to religion at the end of the day. And i agree with you on the arrest and execution of the sponsors and the actual killers.
The main issue is that every single time this happens, the Government fails to make an example of the culprits. Enough is enough, we don't need any panel. What we need is JUSTICE!

Do not be in a hurry to attempt to prove someone wrong unless you are correct in your analysis.

I cannot remember stating that they used sophisticated assault rifles. Maybe it is your own thought process here but I don't see how you expect people to plan something like this without input or advice from non settlers or farmers as the case may be.

While you have tried to arrive at one conclusion from the beginning - religion I must make it clear to you that it takes more than the obvious to analyse issues especially where there are lives involved.

texazzpete:

The deaths of hundreds of women and children is in no way 'interesting' or 'justice'.

I never expected you to understand that part because on several occasions you have basically justified the killings of the Igbos in the past so drawing a parallel to this one is something you cannot come to terms with but a lot of us who faced similar things in the past will always draw that parallel and for many people who were actually involved in the civil war at that time they are grateful to God that in their lifetime they are seeing things like these play out even amongst those that conspired to kill their own.

It is only in Nigeria that I believe we have more internet software experts than real software experts as even though you get to read from many bragging about what they can do the reality is that the vast majority cannot even transform a basic business process based on discussion into a working software meant to solve or transform a business problem or process.

No country can develop without steelworks and steel plants. Truth is Ajaokuta is already too small to serve Nigeria, but it is a start.
The painful fact is that Ajaokuta was planned and built decades ago along with Oshogbo Machines Tools. I'm not sure how long ago now, 20 - 30 years? Thats how much time we have lost to corruption and ineptitude in that sector.

Losing time? You may want to know where the original site was for the steel complex due to nearness of raw materials like coal and iron ore before it was moved to the present location just to ensure that no serious development comes to the East. It is clear that we may never know what we have lost as a nation due to the connivance, wickedness, lies and murder of innocent people in this country while we pretend that everything is ok.

Over 40% of electricity being generated in the US is from coal alone and we have about the finest quality coal in the world in Enugu and yet the state of power supply is embarrassingly low. All in the name of One Nigeria.

More misinformation.

There was no crisis in Nigeria when he did a u-turn on the Aburi accord which he signed.

In trying to annihilate the Igbos he created states to weaken the Eastern region and have it surrounded on all sides including giving away Bakassi to Cameroun for the part they played.

So, he should tell himself the truth and tell Nigerians what those factors beyond his control were so that we stop guessing.

He claims to be a born again christian and as such he should be at home with the truth at all times.
Politics / Re: Nigeria Must Bring Killers Of Christians To Justice: Clinton by Afam(m): 8:05am On Mar 09, 2010
@topic,

Clinton should understand that the natural law of justice favors everyone.

If she is so concerned with this why then have we not seen those US soldiers who murdered and maimed innocent Iraqis including children and women with bullets, bombs etc based on lies from the former president of the US?

It is the same way the killers are lied to and brainwashed into thinking that by killing innocent people they are indeed doing the right thing to defend either their country or God.

I believe most Nigerians want justice but these foreigners who commit atrocities all over the world must understand that their atrocities cannot be excused simply because they are non Africans.

On the Jos issue proper we need to understand here that religion in itself cannot be responsible for this. We must focus on those powerful, wealthy and wicked elements who sponsor these killings to advance whatever evil plans they have.

Most of these killers I believe cannot afford to buy guns let alone coordinate such a plan without input from organized groups whether military or paramilitary as we know that they did this even when there was a curfew.

If those that sponsor these things could be identified and promptly executed then Nigeria will be better.

On a totally different note it is interesting to note that what a lot of Easterners especially Igbos went through more than 40 years ago is being replayed today in a state where the then head of state Gowon comes from and we all know the role he played during that time. What goes around comes around. Justice favors everyone, not a select few.

The Igbo people were responsible for the first military coup in this country; They were responsible for the first attempt at ethnic cleansing; They were responsible for the first violation of constitutionally laid down succession procedures; they were responsible for the destruction of the federation and the creation of the unitary system of which they are now victims (since the initial objective was for the Igbos to dominate the other groups); they were responsible for Nigeria’s first civil war.

If this was written by Sanusi then it makes perfect sense to state that he knows next to nothing about the first coup.

Does he know the difference between the "Igbo people" and "army officers that were Igbo that took part in the first coup along with other non Igbo army officers"?

Little wonder his CBN reforms seems to be overheating the polity with rash decisions and avoidable mistakes even with list of debtors.

When people claim that the coup was carried out to benefit the Igbos I sense irreversible brain damage and utter confusion.

Even those that fought against Biafra admitted that the Easterners were doing very well before independence and after independence in the military, business and civil service. What more can a group of young army officers do to assist a group of people that were already leading in different areas?

Personally, all that happened were based on envy and jealousy as is common with people who are lazy and would rather steal, maim or kill those they believe are better off than them.

After all some people became landlords in Rivers State simply because the likes of Saro Wiwa spearheaded the abandoned property project even though he was trained with Eastern region money (not crude oil money).

oyb, the point you made is spot on, in my opinion as well. Many of the assumptions made by biafran leaders were critical success factors and competent leadership requires that before taking the steps leading to war, no effort should be spared towards ensuring that the assumptions do not turn out wrong, as they indeed turned out.

I'm of the humble opinion that leaders who made these kinds of strategic blunder in addition to countless of other bad decisions, had no business leading. They did a great disservice to millions of dead women and children, to say the least.

A clear case of crying more than the bereaved. An overwhelming majority of Biafrans then and people people that were affected in the war respect and appreciate the contributions of the leaders. A fact that anyone that cannot live with cannot change.

Why one would be so engrossed in the affairs of a people to the extent that desperate lies are being told without shame while masking same as mistakes?

Trading partner? Based on fair trade or what? The US can only make such comments because some people give them the impression that their position is important.

Nigeria can make money selling whatever it wants to sell to other countries in a moment's notice. The US isn't the only buyer in the market and in any case having a very high debt profile (almost impossible to pay off) is not a profile serious nations would want to court at all costs.

If Nigeria goes to war today, the USA is the country to gain the most, being the highest arms dealer in the world. Just as they do in Darfur.

Additionally, no oil consuming nation will gain more from a war in Nigeria than the USA too because they'll be able to buy a hundred barrels of crude oil for just one M16 rifle. Why do you think all these countries gave Bakassi Peninsula to Cameroun? Why do you think they were so alarmed when the Nigerian government agreed to the judgement?

The USA is the worst enemy of every country on this planet and their show of concern is just an expression of need to kill, steal, and destroy.

True, but would you have preferred if he used the word "request", just as a way of showing concern?

Nigerian is a sovereign state, but news regarding the economic status, power tussle, political instability amidst poverty, disease and heightened tension among its citizenry is of course a going concern for the international community who have business relations with the country.

The world is a global village, if Obama disappears for a medical treatment for 90+ days without an official letter to the US congress and he sneaks into the US at night, the whole world will be demanding to know his health status, why should Nigeria be any different?

There is no show of concern here because the US does what will give its citizens and economy maximum benefit regardless of what it takes including murder and wars so the language whether ask or request is immaterial.

This is a Nigerian problem and no country has the right to demand information from Nigeria.
