Politics / Peter Obi Might Win Anambra State - Soludo by agbaikings: 11:35am On Jan 21, 2023 |
Peter Obi might win in Anambra state – Soludo January 19, 2023 Governor Chukwuma Soludo and Peter Obi By Miftaudeen Raji Governor Chukwuma Soludo of Anambra state said the Labour Party candidate, Peter Obi may win the February 25, 2023, presidential election in the state. Soludo stated this in an interview on Channels Television’s Politics Today, a political show monitored by our correspondent on Thursday. He said, “I wish Peter Obi the best of luck. Let him go and compete as others,” “We (APGA) are also competing in the same race. We have our own candidate (Peter Umeadi), who is also son of the soil, coincidentally from Anambra State as well, and he will do his own bit, get his own votes.” The governor referred to his piece in November 2022 where he said that Obi might win in Anambra but won’t win the overall presidential election. He said, “In that piece, I even considered that Peter Obi might win in Anambra State. I did mention that.” Soludo, however, doubted the chances of Obi to win the overall presidential election next month. Governor Soludo, who is he new national leader of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), also said he has given Obi all the support a state government can offer to a former governor like Obi, who was in office between 2006 and 2014. The Anambra governor said he has been fair to all parties campaigning in the state and has not denied them state facilities to use for rallies. Recall that Soludo and Obi were at loggerheads over the state of Anambra economy and investments. The Anambra governor, Soludo, had said the investments Obi left in government are worth close to nothing. He said Obi couldn’t win the 2023 presidential election as there are “two persons/parties seriously contesting for president” – Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Bola Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress (APC). But in his reply, however, Obi said he did his little as governor of Anambra and urged Soludo to do his best in the state as an economics professor. The duo, after the tirade, met at a public function in Awka, where they embraced each other, a development that has been described by many as a “reconciliation move.” |

Sports / Mikel Obi Snubbed Me; Coach Oliseh Reveals by agbaikings: 7:11pm On Aug 21, 2015 |
The Chelsea man refused to pick calls from
the Super Eagles coach during his recent trip
to England and is the reason why he was
left out of the squad
Nigeria coach Sunday Oliseh has
sensationally revealed that he was snubbed
by Chelsea midfielder John Obi Mikel during
his recent trip to England.
It was the reason the player was ignored
from the squad that would face Tanzania
next month.
Oliseh told media on Thursday in Abuja that
he had attempted to reach out to the
midfielder ahead of the Community Shield
game against Arsenal but he was rebuffed
by the 28-year-old’s decision not to respond
to his phone calls.
“I met with the players when I went to
England on Thursday, the day Chelsea was
coming back from a tour before they played
Arsenal in the Community Shield,” said
Oliseh.
“I put a call through to John Obi Mikel. I
called him four times, the phone kept
ringing. I sent him a text message, I got no
response. I called [Victor] Moses, the phone
rang three times.
“And I spoke with [Moses], I told him to
concentrate on his game and after the game
he came to my hotel room we spoke and I
made him understand that my priority is
building a new team and everybody is
starting from zero and I needed to see
players playing.
“From there I [made] a trip to Liverpool
there is no secret anymore, you all know
about it [meeting with Jordan Ibe]
everybody knows. I spoke with other
players and their parents and I never got a
call back from Obi Mikel until I traveled back
home. But just yesterday I saw a missed call
on my phone so at the moment I don’t
know what the situation is now.
“For me everybody is the same and every
player we call answers. To us it’s not up to
me but I want to clear one thing if anybody
wants to play for the Super Eagles we will all
be treated the same way.
“I even told the players playing at home that
home based player for me doesn’t exist, if
you are a better player in Nigeria we will
play you. The thing is that I have not spoken
to him and I made efforts but no response,
so I don’t know what to do. You people
should tell me what to do, I don’t know,”
Oliseh asked. Www.goal.com |

Politics / Jimi Agbaje's Statement On Governor Fashola by agbaikings: 12:08pm On Feb 21, 2015 |
I've always maintained that knocking Governor B.R. Fashola (SAN) for his achievements all because I'm running for Governor on a different platform will just be playing mere politics - and that's not what I've set out to do in this campaign. However, I like to think Governor B.R. Fashola (SAN) and I have very different positions and ideologies when it comes to leadership and what we both think is critical to developing Lagos into a world class mega- city. Which leads me to an issue that needs to addressed. An issue that has to do with our doctors and healthcare workers. First and foremost, I find it heart wrenching that at our level of development in Lagos, we still have to grapple with the decision of paying the salaries of our doctors. You see, quite simply, we cannot expect to have grown our economy by almost a hundred fold in the last 16 years without improving the lives and working conditions of our healthcare workers. It's not just logical. What's the purposes of building schools, if our children cannot afford it. What's the purpose of building bridges, if it doesn't connect people to commercial activity. What's the purpose of leadership, if there are no followers. What's the purpose of such great prosperity, if it doesn't trickle down to the least of us. This is where I think we fundamentally differ. There's a semblance of being Progressive on the surface but the position and decisions that the honorable Governor has made over his tenure leaves us to wonder if truly he and the leaders in the Lagos' ruling party, the APC, are true Progressives - in the footsteps of great Yoruba leaders like Awolowo and LK Jakande. You see being progressive has nothing to do with your party. It's in your lifestyle, in your instinct, it's subconscious. I learnt this from my great mentor Pa Abraham Adesanya - A man that took me under his wings as a young politician and taught me all I know about politics. He would say, "It's about the people. At the end of the day, no other metric counts, no validation is greater than the one you see on the faces and lives of the people. If they are hungry and without jobs; if they're without a roof over their heads; if they're uneducated and lack the life skills to compete; then we've all failed even if we build the tallest of skyscrapers or the longest of bridges." That's what I call being Progressive. So don't lecture me on experience. If doesn't have a human face to it, it's all for nothing. Let me assure Lagosians that hope is on the way. And being a Pharmacist myself and understanding the importance of a healthy people to national development, I intend to do more in this area. I have said under my watch, we shall introduce a free-health insurance scheme that would be beneficial to Lagosians and service providers amongst other things. It's bold - no doubt - but it's possible. As long as we have the the political will to see it through, it will happen. In this election, it is important that we let the opposition know that when it comes to being Progressive: it is not in the size of the cap, it's in the THOUGHTS. It's not by the shape of the glasses, it's in the VISION. And it's definitely not for them to decide whose foot the shoes fit. Our Progressiveness is about the PATH that Lagosians themselves choose to travel and our ability as leaders to harness that. God bless. 2 Likes |

Politics / Buhari Is Not The Messiah Of Nigeria by agbaikings: 5:55pm On Jan 26, 2015 |
To be honest, I don’t know whether to rejoice or sympathise with Gen. Buhari anytime I read all the sweet comments about him on social media — especially on Twitter. I don’t know any presidential candidate who has been so idolised in recent times — which is an excellent accolade any politician will gladly take. On the one hand, it is good for him. He will not be complaining at all. No politician will complain about such good fortune, especially with only a few weeks to an election. On the other hand, my God! The expectations are sky-high. Incredible. From what I am reading, Buhari is expected to perform nothing short of magic in Aso Rock if he wins the presidential election. I’ve been there before — as a reckless enthusiast. I had similar expectations about President Olusegun Obasanjo in 1999. I voted for him based on his past. But I was totally disappointed less than six months after he came to power. I had thought Obasanjo was going to fight corruption as he had solemnly threatened, only for him to appoint Chief Tony Anenih as Minister of Works. I thought Obasanjo was going to build more refineries as he had promised while reminding us of his exploits in his previous life as head of state, but we continued importing fuel till he left office. I thought Obasanjo was going to address the electricity problem but we were producing megawatts of darkness throughout his tenure. Buhari’s growing popularity, particularly on the social media, scares me at times. In an attempt to market him, some chaps have gone overboard, designing and spreading beautiful disinformation about him such that even the former head of state has had to come out to clarify one. For instance, there is a message being circulated that Buhari’s daughter is married to an Igbo man. Those who invented the rumour had a good intention: they wanted to prove to the world that he is not a bigot. But Buhari, perhaps honest to a fault, has denied it. He said none of his children is married to an Igbo man. Interestingly, the rumour was attributed to Obasanjo by one of the broadcasters! Many quotes are invented and attributed to Obasanjo these days. One says: “I prefer that Buhari becomes president and sends me to jail than for Jonathan to be re-elected and then destroys Nigeria.” This is said to have been written by the former president in his trilogy, “My Watch” — which the originator of the rumour has probably not set his eyes on. How can Obasanjo want to go to jail again? Is it a nightclub? He was jailed for a phantom coup by Gen. Sani Abacha. And he was lucky to come out of Yola prison alive. He narrowly escaped death when a wall collapsed beside him while he was studying the Bible one morning. Why would he want to go to jail again? There is even another social media rumour that Buhari does not collect his full pension. A Blackberry broadcast I got a while ago said while all former heads of state collect N27 million per month as pension, Buhari rejected the “bogus amount” and asked to be paid only 10% of it. The person who originated the rumour said he personally went to the Ministry of Finance to confirm the figure. But, in fact, the total pension package is N2,909,122.75 per quarter — as confirmed to me by a former head of state. The breakdown: pension, N878,676.20; upkeep, N1,050,000; salaries of personal staff, N845,446.50; telephone, N75,000; and postal services, N60,000. Buhari never rejected any part of it. For goodness sake, it is his legal right. Why would he not collect it? Good enough, Buhari has not anchored his campaign on any of these phantom stories. He has based his campaign on two promises — to fight corruption and to tackle insecurity. These issues speak directly to the heart of the average Nigerian. Boko Haram has made our lives miserable. What we thought was a mere neighbourhood gathering of some religious zealots some years ago has developed into a massive bomb that is shattering the peace and eating away at our territorial integrity. Buhari, as a retired general, is expected to wipe out Boko Haram if he wins. Also, corruption is, to put it mildly, a pounding headache. As a celebrated man of integrity, Buhari is expected to finish off corruption with one blow to the head. Unfortunately, many Nigerians could be very fickle. Imagine the nicknames young people would start calling Buhari on Twitter by this time next year if he has not performed some magic — assuming he wins the presidential election. They derided President Umaru Musa Yar’Adua even on his deathbed. President Goodluck Jonathan’s honeymoon lasted for barely six months. The guys that called him “breath of fresh air” started calling him “shoeless and clueless” as soon as he withdrew fuel subsidy in January 2012. I don’t think Jonathan ever recovered from the massive blow the subsidy issue dealt on him. Buhari’s honeymoon, if he wins, would not last for six months, trust me. One of the confessions of Obasanjo in 1999 was that the world had changed remarkably since 1979 when he left power. As a military man, he could get things done by fiat. As a democrat, he needed to go through the National Assembly to get a simple budget passed. He needed to “lobby” them to make laws for the good of Nigeria. Judges were dragging their feet on corruption cases until he resorted to self-help through the EFCC. These are some of the realities Buhari would also face if he wins. The Nigeria he led in 1985 is not the same today. Getting things done in a democracy is a different ball game altogether. |

Nairaland / General / [breaking News] Earth Will Experience 6 Days Of Total Darkness December 2014! by agbaikings: 7:00pm On Nov 02, 2014 |
NASA has confirmed that the Earth will experience 6 days of almost complete darkness and will happen from the dates Tuesday the 16 – Monday the 22 in December. The world will remain, during these three days, without sunlight due to a solar storm, which will cause dust and space debris to become plentiful and thus, block 90% sunlight. This is the head of NASA Charles Bolden who made the announcement and asked everyone to remain calm. This will be the product of a solar storm, the largest in the last 250 years for a period of 216 hours total. Despite the six days of darkness soon to come, officials say that the earth will not experience any major problems, since six days of darkness is nowhere near enough to cause major damage to anything. “We will solely rely on artificial light for the six days, which is not a problem at all”, says NASA source lukebbcnews WORLDWIDE |

In 2013, Major opposition parties ACN(Action congress of Nigeria) and CPC(congress for progressive Change) decided to merger to form a strong threat to the ruling PDP(Peoples Democratic Party). With the 2015 Elections drawing near. I would like to get your opinion on the party that seem to have benefitted more on the Merger deal. With the both parties trying hard to make sure everything is even,I feel and think the ACN has upper hand. 1. The party leadership still remains with Bisi Akande of Acn 2. The spokesman still remains Lai mohammed of Acn 3. The party still retains logo of Broom. So my point is why cant Mohammed Buhari, the only significant figure in Cpc be made a consesus candidate. Education / Ebola: School In US Bans Student From Nigeria. by agbaikings: 11:56am On Oct 29, 2014 |
[cA Nigerian man resident in the US has sued a Connecticut school for banning his daughter over Ebola fears. Stephen Opayemi has filed a complaint against the Meadowside Elementary School, in Milford, Connecticut after the school banned his 7-year-old daughter, Ikeoluwa for 21 days, the normal quarantine period for the disease. Opayemi and his daughter had attended a wedding in Nigeria and this caused panic as parents and teachers were concerned that she could transmit Ebola to other children in the school despite the fact that she had not exhibited any symptoms. The aggrieved father filed the suit in a federal court in New Haven, Connecticut and asked a judge to order the school to allow Ikeoluwa back into class. The child’s mother Ikeolapo Opayemi said: "We're hoping this will get her back into school as soon as possible." Nigeria had 20 Ebola cases and eight deaths before it successfully contained the disease and was declared Ebola-free by the World Health Organization on Oct. 20. |
