Nigerians spend over 65% of their income on food. Dear mushroom associate, you might be leaving money on the table when you don’t position yourself optimally in the food sector.
Here are a few tips to position your mushroom business in the food sector:

1. Cooking videos
More often than not, people don’t know how to use mushroom. Create cooking videos that explains how to work with mushroom. Recall, if they buy it and don’t enjoy it; they wouldn’t come back.

2. Value addition
Convert mushroom to other products that is more familiar to your client. Mushroom tea, mushroom spice, mushroom snacks, already-made mushroom soup bowl, etc. Recall; it is easier for consumer to relate and buy a familiar product than a emerging product.

3. Target Audience
Your primary target audience are not farmers’ groups only. Share your product on food groups, fitness groups, vegetarian groups, health groups. Push your product to groups that have older persons, caterers, churches, food malls, hotels. Collaborate with people that sell other healthy food items. Attend food exhibitions, cook and sell. Keep pushing!

4. Benefit
Share the nutritional benefit of mushrooms; break it down to simpler words.
Instead of mushroom contains calcium, say, it is good for your bones.
Instead of it contains anti-oxidant, say, it boost your immunity.
Instead of it contains ergotheine, say, it has zero cholesterol; it is good for your heart.

5. Cooking guide
Create a cooking guide (it can be in a one-page black and white paper), add it whenever your customer orders your product, drop it at outlet that sells your product, share it. Change the recipes every month, use catchy headlines:
-Why you should make Mushroom ogbonno soup for your husband this weekend
-The secret to grandma's egusi soup
-Harvard standard mushroom egg sauce
-Your heart will thank you when you try this mushroom soup recipe
-Serve this mushroom suya in your next party
