Position: Product Development Editor
Location: Oxford
Permanent
Full Time
Salary in the region of £24,000 – 26,000 depending on skills and experience

We are looking for an ambitious and highly motivated Product Development Editor (PDE) to join our Professional Law team, working on titles for practising lawyers.

Working with the Senior Commissioning Editor, the PDE will have responsibility for a range of allocated projects (including subscription titles) and sectors within the Crime and General practice portfolio.

The Product Development Editor will:
1. Project manage and develop titles (including major works, subscription titles, and frontlist) to ensure that authors deliver as commissioned and according to schedule;
2. Undertake and manage market analysis and customer research in areas of responsibility;
3. Contribute to the product development plans for these areas;
4. Prepare business cases for approval and commission titles in line with the strategy for the portfolio.

You will be a graduate, or equivalent, with relevant publishing experience, preferably in a professional or legal publishing environment, perhaps as an assistant editor or a publishing/development editor. You will have a strong track record of project management; excellent communication and organizational skills; and meticulous attention to detail.

A thorough understanding of the principles of marketing and product development combined with a nuanced understanding of the commercial issues underpinning commissioning and portfolio management is essential for the PDE role.
