lawani:
Oduduwa did not use the title of Ooni but he was Oba at Ife. The use of the Ooni title is recent just like many modern Yoruba traditional titles like the Alaafin and etc.
bro you are getting it wrong ooni means the ownwer of ife land that is what oduduwa ascribed to himself when he get to ife. Any king who has ruled in ife is being refered to as Ooni. It is not rescent at all.

indeed you struggle to answer these questions. it is laughable that people can twist history to favour their point. 1.if your account is true and your alafin is so powerful as you claimed he should not have allowed the son of a slave of all people to take over his father's stool.
2. why would alafin be the only one out of oduduwa children and also a last born to dare challenge his fathers arrangement when others accept the authority of ooni.
3. why did that alafin bowed to take authority from ooni aderemi.
I asked those questions to appreciate your effort in answering the previous questions. as your account of ooni stool is only known to road side historians because it is full of contradictions and cannot stand the test of time. Let ife be it is a sacred land for all Yoruba and no amount of intimidation can change the truth. I am a pure Yoruba boy.

Culture / Aromolaran Steps Down For Ooni As Osun Monarch's Chair by AKYEMITE(m): 7:56am On Jan 08, 2016
The imperial majesty , the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, on Thursday attended the meeting of the Osun Sate Council of Traditional Rulers for the first time after his installation on December 7, 2015.

Owa Obokun of Ijesaland, Oba Adekunle Aromolaran, became the acting chairman of the council following the death of Oba Okunade Sijuwade but he said in November 2015, barely a week before Ooni was presented with the staff of office, that he had been elected as the substantive chairman of the council.
It was gather that the Owa, who arrived at the venue of the Thursday's meeting early, occupied the seat meant for the chairman. He was however said to have introduced himself as a deputy chairman.

The atmosphere inside the conference hall of the Ministry of Finance where the meeting was held was said to have changed immediately the Ooni arrive with a large number of traditional rulers who came with him for the meeting.

Most of the Oba seated were said to have stood up and greeted Ogunwusi as he made his way to occupy the white chair brought for him and put at the front on the same row with that of Oba Aromolaran.

Many had annticipated that there would be a drama during the Thursday meeting but the Ooni avoided this as he expressed appreciation to his colleagues for attending his coronation and presentation of staff of office.

The Olojudo of Ido Osun , Oba Aderemi Adedapo, when contacted on the telephone confirmed to us that Ooni attended the meeting for the first time just to thank members of the council.
Speaking on the hierarchy of the monarchs in the state, Oba Adedapo said there was no controversy about who the chairman of the council was, stressing that the Ooni remained the permanent chairman of the council.

He said ' nothing as changed. the Ooni came and thanked other Obas for attending his coronation. He is the permanent chairman of the council.

Age does not matter, even if a 21-year-old is the Ooni, he is automatically the permanent chairman of the council. Other Obas are kings and priest but the Ooni is the chief king and the priest.

That was stated in the gazette released on February 28, 1903 even before Nigeria came to be. We are also epecting the new Oluwo of Iwo, Oba Abdulrassheed Akanbi, in our midst on February 5.

saxywale:

Some questions for the op, and some other wannabe historian.

Question 1:
Did Oranmiyan (the founder of Oyo) ever reign as an Ooni in Ife after he left a oyo ile, and other smaller settlement to contest for a far more superior throne?
when you answer that question, then I would know what response to give you.

Question 2:
Loading.....
In 1903, long before the birth of Lt.col General Adeyinka Adebayo or before the formation of Nigeria, why did the other obas reject the Alaafin as judge, but advised the Colonial Governor of a greater king resident in the Yoruba hinterland, to help settle the dispute involving Elepe of Epe and the Akarigbo of Ijebu-Remo? MYy brother oduduwa a gbe ooo, they want to confuse our generation, we say NO. odo ti o ba gbagbe orisun re yio gbe danu ni
The Alaafin was side-lined, and the Ooni was invited by the new power, the colonial Governor to the Central Native Authority in Lagos to advise on the dispute between Akarigbo of Ijebu-Remo and Elepe of Epe in Remo over Elepe’s right to wear a beaded crown.

Question 3:
If Alaafin was the youngest of the grandsons of Oduduwa, what makes him superior to the likes of his elder brothers you listed above in your write up i.e Oranmiyan, Olowu, Alaketu, Onisabe, Orangun, Olupopo, Oba Benin?

Question 4:
How can the Alaafin apoint an Ooni, when Oduduwa himself was an Ooni?

Question 5:
Why is the Alaafin bowing, and also collecting his certificate of ''occupancy'' from a lesser king in the picture below.
Note: Oba Lamidi Adeyemi became an Oba in 1970.
Oba Aderemi was governor between 1960 and 1962.

I am glad the new Ooni does not have time for any supremacy battle, and has displayed an high level of maturity.

Ooni is greater than alafin, ooni position represent. the headship of all yorubas anywhere in the world. Alafin position represents the headship of a sub of yoruba nation. Can a governor be greater than the president in nigeria, even if u are the governor of lagos state ?. Ife is the headquerters of yoruba nation.

it saddens my heart to see that the traditional rulers who are suppose to be the custodian and also preserve yoruba culture and traditions are the ones who are damaging our referred culture and traditions. it is an aberration and disrespect to Yoruba people for anybody to have the audacity to challenge the authority of Ooni. he is indisputable the head. we should not turn our history upside down for the sake of coming generation. how on earth will an oba in osun state will be comfortable to place himself above Ooni. Osun constitution recognizes Ooni as the permanent chairman of Oba in Osun state. Our history also place Ooni as the head of all. Osun Obaship council should do the needful and stop insulting yoruba before other ethnic group in naija.

I will advice them to wait for new ooni and let the right thing be done. eni kan ki fi ibi ti a ba pe ni ori tele. aifi agba fun enikan ti ki je ki aye gun. irrespective of who occupies the stool of ooni. he is a leader for all Yoruba OBA not to talk of Osun state.
