Yes, you can apply with your family. Indeed, it is advisable you do that because what I have gathered is that a lot of students who went alone and tried to apply for their family to join them had delays in processing visa for their family. If you are not using an agent, the application form online is the same and you will be the primary applicant whilst your family is added as dependents. If you are using an agent, the agent are familiar with filling the forms. You only need to show that you have funds/savings to cover your family since I reckon your scholarship only covers your own expenses. As long as you are able to show proof of funds for your family, you are good to go. Start filling the forms online and you can then send questions on this platform if you run into challenges but I honestly think the form is straightforward. Best. SolaBee: 1 Like |

alao1981:Dear All, I arrived Australia yesterday and wanted to quickly provide an update for people travelling after us. Historically, it is allowed to bring some Nigerian food stuffs (e.g garri, crayfish etc) as long as you declare them on the border form. However, the foodstuff requirement has been changed and resulted in most of our foodstuffs being confiscated. There were two other Nigerians on the same flight and they also had similar experience. Apparently, whilst the food stuffs are still acceptable, it must be those purchased from branded companies with proper branded sealed packs. For example, yam flour will be accepted if you bought "Ola-Ola" from a supermarket. However, if you made it yourself and pour into a sack and label it yam flour, it will be seized. So, all of you bringing food stuffs, it is better you buy branded ones from shop rite or spar...not that you buy grounded crayfish from the market and pour into ziplock (this will be seized). The custom officer confirmed that they used to accept the home packaged items before but the rules were changed during CoVid. Other than the above, the landing experience was seamless and no question was asked or document checked, except to collect our passport and scan. Upon scanning, we were told to pass through to pick our bags. Make sure you fill the Australia Traveler Declaration Form and submit before you head to the airport in Nigeria as you will not be allowed to board from Nigeria unless you provide automatically generated response from Australia Home Office. Hi everyone. With the hope that borders will be opened for international students soon, I was wondering if anyone can update this very helpful post by Tyosho. Some of the information may now be dated, especially due to Covid but it covers a lot of information that people coming into australia will need. I am moving to Melbourne from Nigeria when borders opened and will appreciate any update. Thanks. tyosho: 9 Likes |

Receipts are two ways. If she does not have the one from her suppliers, she should have evidence of her sales to her own customers. Her bank accounts will also show all her business transactions especially money she paid to her vendors in china as well as payments received from her customers. That is enough to show her business seunfoster: |

I do not think this is as problematic as you think it is, unless the sponsor cannot show the source of the new funds or the investment he did when the money was moved from the original account that was submitted in December. With all the uncertainties around timeline for visa processing and the long assessment period, it is not unreasonable for the sponsor to have moved the funds into an investment so that it can earn returns. He just needs to write a letter explaining why the funds was moved from the old account and possible evidence of investments he made. The embassy will understand and it would have been unfair on the sponsor anyway....this is my thoughts, but others with experience on matters like this can provide better guidance ocpaschal: |

Yes, if she applied for visa together with your application. If not, she will need to apply a separate one, If you have not applied, it is better you include her application with yours. iamdutch: |

I am not sure there is much to be done than wait. There is a response from a contributor on the page preceding this one forwarding message that was received by someone in similar position as your wife. So, it does not seem to be peculiar to your wife. If she feels that bothered, she can also send an email to the visa office asking for an update on her application. The July 2021 start date is of no impact since she would not have been able to travel. She should defer if no plans to commence online Naijabad: |

Impressed, with the suite of offers/scholarships across multiple institutions/countries. More impressed that you know what you want and ready to focus on it. The fact that you are attending UNSW with full scholarship has almost already guaranteed your visa if you prepare the forms well. There is a lot of guides on previous pages and online. We can provide response on specific questions you may have of course. Start by trying to fill the form and take it up from there.......again, I will be quite surprised that you will not get your Visa shams040: |

Just to be clear, the Australian embassy will not call you for visa processing. It is all done online on the immi portal. If he has submitted his application on the portal and submitted his biometrics at VFS, he should continue to check. If they require any information from him, they will typically send an email with the request. If his application is still under review, the status will state so on the portal ocpaschal: |

Congrats indeed. This was the approach I took in getting my visa last year. I am curious though, did you get funding? Reason I ask is that UNSW is one of the most expensive schools over there and I had to abandon their offer when I did not get funding from them. BTW, I got a mail from my school deferring my resumption to July 2022 (I did not even ask them). So, there is some realisation that newly commencing student not likely form a big chunk of the small batches that may enter the country this year and early next year lomaxx: |

There is a possibility of elections in November. The PM will not like to take a risk on COVID entering the country so as not to impact his performance in the election. A lot of the premiers were able to ride on this to win their elections. They will be open to more risks around border after the elections lomaxx: |

nicolofm:There does not appear to be much changes on willingness to open border to students, especially with the escalation in India. Whilst it is possible that places like NSW may take some few students before end of year, 2022 more likely a timeline to plan towards. |

Subject to other suggestions, you should try to provide analysis showing that there are several opportunities in Nigeria for the kind of skills you will get from the proposed course of study. So, a lot of companies will be willing to employ you when you return to Nigeria FieryJoe: |

max99:I think it will be good if the letter can indicate when you joined the company, the role/duties you perform (which should be consistent with whatever you have indicated in your application), that you have been a diligent/responsible/hardworking staff, that the company is aware and has no objection to you proceeding on studies, that you will be on study leave for the duration of your course and the company will accept you back on your return (because the course you are studying will benefit the company). eusuph99:To the best of my knowledge, scholarships for coursework studies are quite limited (compared to research). You will need to check the scholarship available at UniMelb itself that you qualify for as a starting point. The CoVID crisis also may also reduce scholarship options available generally. |

dew02:If you can show evidence of the relationship, same surname is not compulsory. For instance, if you can show birth certificates that ties the uncle with your mum and a clear explanation of the family tree that connects you both, then this should be fine. However, being a very distant relative of yours, it is also important and advisable to give reasons as to why he is choosing to expend so much money on you for the studies (since he is not a close relative). 1 Like |

VickayThrills:As long as your sponsor can show evidence of the business he is doing through which he generated the funds, it is not compulsory for him to have a registered company. For instance, if he can show copies of agreements/invoices/receipts from the people he did business with that led to the payment of money to him, that should be acceptable. 2 Likes |

Hello all...thanks for all the tips. Any special advice for those who have their visas but did not make in into Australia before border closed. What are those things you would recommend one can use the intervening period to plan for since it is very much unclear when the border will open? 3 Likes |
