Politics / Re: I’ll Revive Kogi Economy In Four Years – Melaye by Ali5511(m): 9:28pm On Jul 31, 2019
Drsheddy:
Choose to receive Christ and accepts God’s free gift of salvation.

“But to all who believed him and accepted him, he gave the right to become children of God. They are reborn—not with a physical birth resulting from human passion or plan, but a birth that comes from God.” John 1:12-13 (NLT)

You can take these steps by praying a simple prayer of commitment to God:

“Dear Jesus, thank you for making me and loving me. I realize I need you in my life, and I’m sorry for my sins. I ask you to forgive me. Thank you for dying on the cross for me. Please help me to understand it more. As much as I know how I want to follow you from now on. Please come into my life and make me a new person inside. I accept your gift of salvation. Please help me to grow now as a Christian.”

“Everyone who calls on the name of the LORD will be saved.” Romans 10:13 (NLT)

“Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you.” Hebrews 13:5b (NIV)

Politics / Implementation Of New Minimum Wage: Why It May Not Improve The Nigeria Economy by Ali5511(m): 10:33am On Jul 30, 2019
Implementation of new minimum wage: Why it may not improve the Nigeria economy

By : Aliyu Sulaiman Abdulmalik

I have for a while wonder why most Nigerians think an increase in the minimum wage will cause an improvement in their state of living. When this is for a fact not the first time the Nigerian government will increase the salary scale of her workers. On the 27th of May, 2019, a voyage from an end of penury to an end of hopes unrealized began when the Nigerian Labour Congress raised the dust of strike in all government parastatal; as the body promised to go on a nationwide strike should the federal government refuses to increase the salary paid to her workers. That averted, after several pressures on and meetings with the ministry of Labour. Now, the federal government has ‘implemented’ this increase in the minimum wage, yet the question is: is the said increment in minimum wage an increment, or a panorama of looming economic inflation?

One thing first, true that goodness lies in the agitation for a rise in pay for the people, but the question, my good people, is: at what price will this pay rise cost? From a veritable study, the only sustainability possible for an economic improvement by pay rise is if and only if by the side of the implementation lies a phenomenon called “price regulation policy”. Why is this? Hitherto, the econometricians of our country has unwaveringly shown that an overnight hike permeates the markets after one: a cut in the availability of essential commodities for production such as oil and electricity, and two: a rise in the standard of living. A market politics, one could say. Which is why the so-called minimum wage implementation need be looked at with a spectacle of skepticism as so far, there has been no known statement or action hinting at the provision or the arrangement of such price control policy. So, what are we saying? That we should ask for a bigger plate to eat a smaller food? or ask for a bigger plate with enough space to take enough food?

A call for action here therefore, is that the government can only forge a wave of economic stability if the implementation of the new minimum wage is met with a regulated price of commodities in the market by executing the following tasks:

- The Nigerian government must increase the subsidies paid on all goods and services in the country, as Increase in the subsidies paid on each commodities will reduce the price of commodities in the market. That means, the government should not whistle down the wind of subsidies paid on commodities for the benefits of the citizens.

-The government must reduce the import duties charged on products shipped into the country, since a reduction on the import duty charge will charge a reduction in sale price of such products.

- The government must ensure that the producers and retailers doesn't manufacture an unnecessary hike in the price of the commodities.

On a parting note, let’s not be deluded at the prospects of a better life with an increase in pay, as long as a checkmating policy isn’t in place. It will be of interest therefore, to note the inevitability of Nigerians cheering in the fool’s paradise for a while, only to be slapped back into a brutal reality by the producers, and its co-commercial chain of commodity. Hence, until apt and adequate regulations and policies are made, let’s all save our cheers for later.
