Business / Re: When Should Founders Leave A Business? by alibor: 11:49am On Dec 11, 2006 |
i guess Seun ment, when the organization's activities and decisions are now governed by external interests, which are not in line or most cases, contravening the founding visions of the organization. As for when the founder should leave, he is the person to decide that, and he should have done that right from the inception of the vision. I pray also for most Nigerian Entrepreneurs to appreciate this need and take succession as a major decider when developing their organizational system. |

Politics / Re: Independence Day: Nigeria At 46. Hurray! by alibor: 8:50am On Sep 29, 2006 |
there's every reason to celebrate! at 46 america was a wild-wild west! i guess that is a better contrast. what i see on the streets of lagos is an improvement of what i saw in 1993! what i see in the cities of Delta State is an evolution unprecedented, what i see in onitsha of today is order unimaginable in the 1990s, what i see in kaduna is religious tolerance none ever imagined could be achieved, what i see in cross river is a jewel born on the atlantic in the 2000s what i see in abuja is a city hewn from desolate rocks, what i see in nigeria is a nation emerging from econimic obscurity to international prominence, with so much weights cast down from debt relief/payments and new purposeful policies and institutions, count our blessings and see that nigeria has truly prospered! Don't Bad Mouth Nigeria! Nigeria is working!!! To be truthful, There's no nation in Africa with so much promise for a better tomorrow like Nigeria, why not celebrate the youthful nation of Nigeria? Happy Independence Anniversary! Nigeria is 46!! Congrats to all NIGERIANS !!! @ 46 not many countries could boast of the growth and experiences we have had as a nation, nor could celebrate the kind of victories we have had over trials and controvercies. Nigeria is sure on the right course!!! God Bless Nigeria! |
Politics / Independence Anniversary Special: Where Do You See Nigeria In 2027 ? by alibor: 8:11am On Sep 29, 2006 |
Nigeria is 46! Congratulations !!! But where do you see Nigeria in the year 2027 ? For me, I see a Nigeria with improved economy, infrastructure and governmental care; I see a more purposeful leadership and responsible followership; But I also see a nation in sharper religious divide (not ethnic); I see richer states - poorer states dicotomy! Above all, I see a nation more peaceful than any other of her status (but know that peace is not the absence of crisis) What do you see? |

i believe u have a gsm. the advertisement u will place will do the wonders! the awareness is growing in nigeria. give it a shot and see for yourself. there are over 1.5 million businesses in nigeria that can use a website and not up to 5% has. and those that do have one or more now would need to maintain them. 300 websites designed, hosted and maintained by you is a good steady source of income and you can complement with your video editing. remember a good entrepreneur must maintain upto 3 sources of steady flow of income! |

flex and co, i tot i cld respond yesterday after wok, but sorry i cldnt. even now i still dont know where to begin in giving you the orientation for the new africa. like you, there are many who holds the view that africa has sunk into a state irredeemable. but nay, we are at the turn of events, just like the much of you are negatively showing your disatisfaction, a number of others are positively showing their disatisfaction. they have set-off on a change mission. and guess who they are changing now? Themselves! none other first! they are changing thenselves, they wont give or receive brinbes, they have refused to use their ssce results they got through malpractice! belive it! they showing responsibility to their neighbourhood and neighbours, they are compassionate towards the course you feel is ultimately doomed, they believe in it and is giving their commitment to changing their immediate environment to reflect what they see from the inside of them rather than compain and curse about it. and friends that is what i think we all should be doing at this time. it is we (u and i) that needs change. not the flag, coat of arm, government couriers or anything we have turned to blame. not even the other person next to you yet, it should be you first. change urself, then ur brother, then your friends and then your colleagues , then u can talk about the government not being able to perform & then plan to change that, which would then be simple, cos all you need now is to put all the people u have changed in government and government would have changed! i hope u spread the word to others. maybe u should see https://www.nairaland.com/nigeria/topic-25116.0.html and have a feeling of how much disbelief people already have on the system and u can work at correcting that instead of adding to it! I believe in you, I belive in Nigeria, i believe in the new africa! I SEE A NEW AFRICA! |
Politics / I Took A Danfo (bus) 3 Days To Indepence Anniversary by alibor: 9:08pm On Sep 28, 2006 |
A few days ago i wrote a short thought about my strong convictions of a new Africa, and some Nairaland folks are already showing disbelief at it. Last night I was met with an even stiffer opposition. It was a scenario in the Danfo I picked on my way from Ikeja: we had been caught in the traffic, our driver swerved off the queue and headed down the wrong lane, causing even worse traffic in the opposite direction. A traffic warden came up to our driver’s side and raised his voice, a quick squeeze of cash and his voice went “soothingly” – “…you go sofry dey rush u fit jam person hormer now dem go say make u pay”. That was when the fuse blew up in the bus! A stout, fluent speaking woman started it all… Woman: Dead Country! Rotten police! Cursed nation! A people without leadership! The abuse kept flowing… Driver: Na wetin? Man by my right side: She is referring to you and your sick friends… Driver: na me start am? Man by my right side: Na im we dey talk. There is no police in this country; they deserve to be dismissed so that we can rest! They are complete menace to the society; they are simply a license for criminality! Man behind: the police is not the only dead institution in this country. The entire country is dead. It was founded on falsehood and will remain so. Look at the political killings, look at the hike in school fees, look at the increasing hunger in the society, yet someone is said to possess 150 million in his account simply for being in government… Woman: that is what I am saying…there is no working government, no working system in this country. Imagine in foreign countries, u hav some benefits as a visitor, but in this country! This niaja we call our own country, there’s no one benefit for being a citizen. Rather you are cursed for being one…people sit down and discourse how to disburse public funds among themselves…they only claim to fight corruption when they want to get at each other…sick! I mean this wole system is sick!!! I thought of giving these co-travelers of mine some new orientation: who broke the traffic rules? Government? Who failed to correct the earring driver? Government? Who gave the police man a bribe? Government? Who agreed to the 100% hike in bus fare imposed by the greedy driver because of the population he saw stranded at the bus stop knowing fully well there are many who will not be able to afford that amount? I guess government too. See, we are what we make our society and our society would in turn make us what we are! Another guy was talking… Guy: I have always maintained my point – things will never move in this country as long as these leaders continue to re-cycle themselves. Take a look at the elections coming again! Whose posters do you see? Take a look at those in government, who are they? Those who were in government the very year I was born! Damn it! We are all doomed and sacrificed as pawns in the hands of a very few… Another guy was cutting in – Guy 2: that is why I advocate a revolution…this nation needs cleansing! All those who have been found corrupt in one way or the other should be wiped out! Driver: Na who go do am? You? General laughter Guy 2: you see? That is the problem with Nigeria; no one wants to come out. No one wants to take the bull by the horn. Suffering and smiling. Then why are u complaining? Have u done anything about your situation? In short, no one here should disturb my journey again…if you truly want a change, step out and say it! Guy: for me, I have been praying for one thing…God’s favour to leave this country… I turned a sharp look at him – Guy: ehen now? e beta to be tree for America than to be person for Nigeria! My head dropped! That was the greatest blow my life long dream has ever received in recent times. I raised my head to give him a response but was at a loss where to start or whom to address first. Nigeria sure do need a change, but who needs the change? The buses or the drivers? The system or the people? The school or the teachers and students? The government or the officials? Who exactly needs the change? We have had more policies than any other nation in the world, more population than any other black country, more resources than most other countries. We walk on gold; sleep on crude oil and site on wash on natural gas reserves, yet we wake up POOR. Whose fault? I was beginning to get emotional about the whole discussion, I guess the man beside me noticed it, he asked: Obasanjor don bribe you? I simply looked up and answered: There’s A New Nigeria! There was great silence…I bent down to pray for my country, my fatherland and the place of rest of my beloved children to come…but it was my stop! As I made to alight, the man asked, “A New Nigeria…no doubts-o…but when…two thousand and?” I simply smiled my convictions “You will see it when you see it”. I worked on wandering “is there none other who sees a greater Africa?” – if there is in Niajaland please such a one should testify to others! 1 Like |

u know what? u've got more than most people who now own multi nationals had when they left national service! u have ur degree, which means u can communicate at least to an extent and relate with people, u have knowledge of world's leading technology, IT (with ur hardware, xml, css knowledge), and above all a 500K!!! if i were in ur shoes i'd be doing something great, set up a system company. here! decide where ur flare is (since u did some IT courses i guess u must have some flare there). so just decide how far u wish to go with it and pls be FREE in thinking. when u r done with dreaming BIG, then humble urself enof 2 start small, so u still have some work to do in breaking ur big dream system company to its minutest form, that's where u start from with ur 500K! do not make the mistake i made, investing more in infrasturcture and operations when u r yet to get the market, books might tell u differently, but i learnt mine on the 'pitch', get the business knowledge 1st, then get ur business model right, don't miss it! the next is get the market, but be sharp to negotiate on appropriate deadlines that would allow u ample time to assemble ur pre-fashoned house (pre-fashoned, in the sense that u have it prepared, all set, and only waiting for this momment to go). somethings u may need to put in place for a sysem company would include: 1. Accommodation <u can get this FREE if u choose to start from ur residential garage, or u could negotiate to pay in 2 installments> - 80,000 2. Register ur business name <cos u need a bank account, plan to bcom ltd in 3 months> - 5k 3. Get working tools <clipping tool, cutter, tester, multimeter, soldering iron, plier, long nose plier, blower, brush, etc> - 25k 4. furniture <u just need tables & chairs for receptionist/admin officer, and urself, desk for the workshop, locker for ur tools, reception seaters, and 3 stools for now> - 20k 5. get a laptop <fairly used for sales calls and home work> - 95k 6. get a desk top pc <for office use> - 45k 7. attend SignOnAfrica's Web Entrepreneurs' Seminar <that will equip u with all u need to get started in web hosting & related service, u will have at least 5 FREE web hosting spaces and a tool for designing websites, even though u r not a pro at graphics. see www.signonafrica.net/webmasters.html> - 10K 8. print your letter headed papers, business (complementary) card (for 2 staffs), ID card (for 3 staffs) - 18k 9. pay for 10 straight days (spread to taste) of advertisment slot on guardian/punch (they are the best in returns, from experience, guardian 1st. use 2X4, make sure to get early pages and a good discount too) - 170000 10. get a printer - 10k 11. keep 20k for imprest 12. take a mentor out on a date with 2k and share ur visions with him. that is it! from my view, ok? I wish you great results, Salvation Alibor is my name |

texazzpete, Haba! don't missunderstand me. i'm only encouraging those who ve been tied up with "employment" focus for measuring their life's worth or progress, to look beyound the obstacles of unemployment and pursue a rewarding career for themselves, whatever it takes - stooping low, climbing high or taking the challenge of seeking further knowledge/expertise. however, such decisions should be in such areas that we are passionate about as to want to live our lives for it. See Bill Gates? he dropped out, right? but that was a calculated risk, not a mare risk. you want to take a risk without a vision? u just committed suicide! See Osita Onuma? Nigeria's greatest academic export- he washed cars to pay his way through UNN. one thing is common to both osita and bill gate they believed enough in what they wanted to sacrifice for it- that is my position! stop tying yourself to everybody's direction, stop evaluating yourself with materialism or general world views, seek your passion, develop ur own values, u will need to sacrifice now, but leave in a sign post at every cross-road u faced for those who follow behind! |
