Politics / Aisha Buhari Not Pregnant, Suspected To Have Cancer - Sahara Reporters by AllahIsSatan: 4:49pm On Dec 20, 2021
Nigeria's First Lady, Aisha Buhari Not Pregnant, Down With Ailment Suspected To Be Cancer

Nigeria's First Lady, Mrs Aisha Buhari, is not expecting a baby but treating an undisclosed disease suspected to be cancer, multiple presidential sources told SaharaReporters.

Pictures showing Aisha and President Muhammadu Buhari arriving in the country from Turkey on Sunday had fuelled pregnancy rumour, with many Nigerians wondering if the First Lady is expecting a baby.

In one of the pictures, Aisha was seen in a yellow lace kaftan and a black shawl draped over what appeared like a baby bump which she tenderly placed her right hand on.

Another picture showed the couple on the plane’s stairs, with the First Lady having what looked like a baby bump as she gently stepped down the flight of stairs.

However, a presidential source on Monday told SaharaReporters that Aisha isn’t expecting a baby but down with an ailment.

He added that drugs being taken by the First Lady caused her to gain weight and also affected her shape.

“She’s not pregnant. She’s treating an undisclosed disease which is believed to be cancer. The drugs she’s taking had caused her to gain weight,” the source said.

In August 2020, Aisha was flown to Dubai, United Arab Emirates for urgent medical treatment after complaining of neck pain.

The neck pain was said to have started shortly after she returned to Abuja from a trip to Lagos in July where she had visited Florence, widow of former Oyo State governor, Abiola Ajimobi, who died of coronavirus complications on June 25, 2020.

In September 2020, the First Lady relocated to Dubai, United Arab Emirates, citing insecurity in the Aso Rock Villa.

Her decision was triggered by a shooting incident that occurred in June and caused some panic among occupants of the Aso Villa, a source had said.

SaharaReporters had reported that there was a crisis in Aso Villa after security details of the President's wife removed Buhari's Personal Assistant, Sabiu 'Tunde' Yusuf, from the place after he refused to embark on a 14-day isolation period upon returning from a trip to Lagos.

Shortly afterwards, the First Lady's ADC, Usman Shugaba, in an attempt to apprehend Yusuf, reportedly fired gunshots but the President's aide escaped to the residence of Mamman Daura where he spent the night.

Yusuf soon ordered the arrest of Aisha's ADC and other security details in connivance with Buhari's chief security officer. Buhari had ordered a probe into the alleged security breach inside the Presidential Villa.

The truth is that Yeye Bello is the ideal 100% type of candidate that can win presidential elections in Nigeria. He's a fool, he makes unguarded utterances, he is corrupt and he practices the "right" religion which was created by someone with a low IQ for people with low IQs. In fact, with the exception of maybe the late Yar'Adua, he should even be considered an upgrade on all the other abokis who have ruled this godforsaken land of misfortune.

Yahaya Bello Is The North Central Governor Who Made N60billion Cash Withdrawal From State Coffers–EFCC Sources

An investigation by SaharaReporters has revealed that Yahaya Bello of Kogi State is the governor whom the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) accused of withdrawing N60 billion cash from the coffers of his state.

The anti-graft agency had about a week ago accused a serving Nigerian governor of allegedly withdrawing N60 billion from his state’s purse, saying this was done in about six in office.

The EFCC, however, did not disclose the identity of the governor, but partially identified the governor as domiciling in the North Central region of the country.

But EFCC sources on Monday told SaharaReporters that the agency could authoritatively confirm that the governor accused of withdrawing N60 billion cash from his state’s purse is Yahaya Bello.

Since the hint was given by the EFCC last following which it dominated the media space, SaharaReporters had commenced special investigation into the identity of the affected governor.

Over the weekend, with intelligence and court documents specially obtained by SaharaReporters, the newspaper can authoritatively confirm the affected governor to be Yahaya Bello of Kogi State.

Further investigation by this paper confirmed the amount involved to be N78 billion at the end of the special investigation carried out by the EFCC's newly created Department of Intelligence.

The Kogi State government, in a bid to distract attention from the N29 billion local government fund fixed in a private bank and uncovered by the EFCC, had filed a defamation action against the commission before a Federal High Court.

In response to the action, the EFCC uploaded damning materials in response to the legal action of the state, forcing the state government to request for adjournment at the last hearing.

Abdulrasheed Bawa, the Chairman of the EFCC had said the agency was investigating a serving state governor who had withdrawn more than N60 billion ($146 million) in cash since 2015.

In the latest edition of its in-house magazine called “EFCC Alert”, Bawa was quoted as saying that Nigerians would soon hear more about the developing sleaze story.

“Very soon, Nigerians are going to see some of the things that we are doing. I can tell you for free that the new Department of Intelligence that we have created is working wonders. They have come up with a lot of intelligence.

“In one of them, a governor in a North-Central state within the last six years (one individual) has withdrawn over N60 billion in cash.

“We are looking at all of that, and I assure you that at the end of all of our investigations, Nigerians are going to be briefed of what we are doing behind the scene on cybercrime, politically-exposed persons, as well as engaging government agencies to ensure that we have better processes and procedures on how to do government business.

“We are not setting out to be engaging with people on the pages of newspapers or press conferences. We are working hard trying to see what we can do behind the scenes [to eradicate corruption],” Bawa had said.

Business / Turkish Currency Loses Over 50% Of Value After Sharia Law Is Applied To Forex by AllahIsSatan: 3:19pm On Dec 20, 2021
Turkey’s troubled currency the lira nosedived Monday after President Recep Tayyip Erdogan cited Muslim teachings to justify not raising interest rates to stabilise the currency.

Erdogan has pushed the central bank to sharply lower borrowing costs despite the annual rate of inflation soaring to more than 20 percent.

Economists believe the policy could see consumer price increases reach 30 percent or higher in the coming months.

But Erdogan said in remarks aired by state television late Sunday that his Muslim faith prevented him from supporting rate hikes.

“They complain we keep decreasing the interest rate. Don’t expect anything else from me,” he said in the televised comments.

“As a Muslim, I will continue doing what our religion tells us. This is the command.”

Islamic teachings forbid Muslims from receiving or charging interest on loaned or borrowed money.

Erdogan has previously cited his religion in explaining why he believes interest rates cause inflation instead of reining it in.

High-interest rates are a drag on activity and slow down economic growth.

But central banks raise their policy rates out of necessity when inflation gets out of hand.

The Turkish lira has now lost nearly half its value in the past three months alone.

It was trading down more six percent against the dollar on Monday afternoon.

A dollar could buy 7.4 liras on January 1. It was worth 17.5 liras on Monday.

“You cannot run a modern economy integrated into the global economy on this basis,” economist Timothy Ash of BlueBay Asset Management said in a note to clients.

Politics / Buhari Prevented Boko Haram From Islamising Nigeria: Lai Mohammed by AllahIsSatan: 3:57pm On Dec 15, 2021
Minister of information and culture Lai Mohammed Wednesday said Boko Haram insurgents would have conquered and Islamised Nigeria if not for the coming of President Muhammadu Buhari to power in 2015.

“Yes, the security situation has continued to pose a great challenge, but amidst the cacophony of voices – some genuinely concerned about the situation and others ready to exploit it for selfish ends – it is easy to forget where we are coming from. Today, we only look at the current situation, without wondering what would have been had this President not taken the bull by the horns, as far as security is concerned.

“With the way the insurgents were going before this Administration came into office, with their control of a vast swath of land the size of Belgium, with their freewheeling attacks in almost a dozen states, including the Federal Capital Territory which was hit at least five times, perhaps they could have achieved their aim of declaring an Islamic State in Nigeria, if President Buhari had not acted decisively, ” Mr Mohammed said.

Notwithstanding Mr Mohammed’s claims, Peoples Gazette in October reported how Boko Haram controls large swath of ungoverned spaces in Niger, near Abuja, working in cahoots with other criminals in contiguous forests across states in North-West. The criminals recently hoisted their flag near Shiroro, the site of the country’s foremost hydroelectric power station.

They have also continued to emplace tax system on locals aside killing security operatives in military offensives, kidnapping school children and other citizens en masse for ransom.

Mr Mohammed, however, in his statement at a conference in Abuja on Wednesday, dismissed criticisms against Buhari-led regime as “politicking and sheer absurdity.”

“The polity has recently been awash with heightened commentary on the security situation in the country. The commentary has been triggered by genuine concerns in some circles, and crass politicking or sheer absurdity in others,” Mr Mohammed said.

Bandits last week Monday ambushed a 42-seater bus at Sabon Birni, Sokoto, opening fire on the travellers. The shots caused a conflagration and 23 persons died as the vehicle went up in flames while others sustained varying degrees of injuries.

In protest against worsening insecurity in Northern Nigeria, scores of youths last week Friday marched across states in the North.

TACKLING INSECURITY: PRESIDENT BUHARI HAS DONE A LOT, HAS MORE TO OFFER – FG

BEING TEXT OF THE PRESS CONFERENCE BY THE HON. MINISTER OF INFORMATION AND CULTURE, ALHAJI LAI MOHAMMED, IN ABUJA ON WEDNESDAY 15 DECEMBER 2021

Good morning gentlemen and welcome to this press conference.

2. The polity has recently been awash with heightened commentary on the security situation in the country. The commentary has been triggered by genuine concerns in some circles, and crass politicking or sheer absurdity in others.

3. Since assuming office in 2015, President Muhammadu Buhari has continued to make the issue of security a major plank of his Administration’s policy. This is not a surprise, considering the fact that the fight against insecurity is one of the three priority areas of the APC-led Federal Government.

4. Yes, the security situation has continued to pose a great challenge, but amidst the cacophony of voices – some genuinely concerned about the situation and others ready to exploit it for selfish ends – it is easy to forget where we are coming from. Today, we only look at the current situation, without wondering what would have been had this President not taken the bull by the horns, as far as security is concerned.

5. With the way the insurgents were going before this Administration came into office, with their control of a vast swath of land the size of Belgium, with their freewheeling attacks in almost a dozen states, including the Federal Capital Territory which was hit at least five times, perhaps they could have achieved their aim of declaring an Islamic State in Nigeria, if President Buhari had not acted decisively. After all, in 2014, Boko Haram declared a Caliphate in Gwoza after capturing Bama and Gamboru as well as other towns and villages in Borno, Yobe and Adamawa. They installed their own Emirs, collected taxes and flew their flag before the military dislodged them.

6. Yes, banditry and kidnapping have added to the state of insecurity, President Buhari has also continued to provide quality leadership in order to ensure that our security agencies decisively tackle the cankerworm of insecurity of any hue. No Administration in Nigeria’s recent history has provided the security agencies with the hardware needed to tackle insecurity as that of President Buhari, in addition to raising the morale of our security men and women. Only last week, Mr. President commissioned an armada of naval boats and ships in the latest effort to enhance our nation’s maritime security. The army, the air force and the police, among others, have also been receiving modern hardware to strengthen their arsenal.

7. The Administration has not concentrated on the kinetic measures alone. Non-kinetic measures have also been strengthened. The establishment of the Federal Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development to coordinate all humanitarian affairs in Nigeria is a major effort at tackling poverty and shrinking the pool of those being targeted for recruitment by insurgents and bandits. Of course, the Federal Government’s unprecedented and massive investment in infrastructure is also aimed at boosting socio-economic well-being of the nation and further reducing poverty, which is a major cause of insecurity.

8. Despite all this, President Buhari has not relented, constantly presiding over meetings of security chiefs to get an update and also issue necessary directives, and not missing any opportunity to offer succour to his countrymen and women, when necessary. The skewed narrative in certain quarters that the President has not shown enough empathy is glib talk. The President has also continued to work with our neighboring countries and indeed our Western partners to tackle insecurity, especially terrorism. With the entire Sahelian region experiencing a devastating surge in terrorist attacks, more so in the wake of the Libyan crisis, it has become even more imperative for Nigeria to step up regional cooperation to more effectively tackle insecurity – and that is what Mr. President has been doing.

9. Gentlemen, President Buhari has done so much, under very difficult economic and social conditions, to tackle insecurity in our country. Not only has he done so much. President Buhari continues to do much more to keep Nigerians safe. To say he has nothing more to offer is untrue, fallacious and smacks of dirty politicking. By boosting the number and capacity of our fighting forces, Mr. President is putting them in good stead to tackle insecurity not just during the life of his Administration but long after he would have left office. President Buhari is leaving a legacy of security, infrastructural development, economic prosperity and social cohesion for Nigeria. This may not seem obvious today, amidst daunting challenges, but posterity will be kind to this President.

10. Please permit me to use this opportunity to commend the military, police, civil defence and other security, intelligence and para-military agencies for their continued service to the nation. It is important to remember that our men and women in uniform sacrifice their sleep and comfort so we can in turn sleep well. Even as we continue to battle insecurity, it will be uncharitable on our part to suggest they are not doing enough, or not to appreciate their sacrifices. The recent massive surrendering of Boko Haram terrorists and the huge pressure on bandits represent a testament to the effectiveness of the efforts of our security agencies. We should encourage them to do more, instead of pillorying them.

11. Finally, while there is nothing wrong in the citizens expressing their concerns over the insecurity in the country, we wish to say that the use of incendiary and insulting words, especially by leaders of all hues, can only overheat the polity and heighten tension. While the government provides leadership, all Nigerians have a role to play in securing our nation. Security is not the sole responsibility of the security forces alone. We must not only support our security agencies,we must also say something anytime we see something that hampers our safety and security, as encapsulated in the mantra: ”If you see something, say something.”

12. I thank you all for your kind attention. I will now take your questions.

Politics / Nigeria’s Public Debt Rises By ₦2.5 To ₦38 Trillion by AllahIsSatan: 2:28pm On Dec 15, 2021
Nigeria’s total public debt rose by N2.54 trillion, from N35.465 trillion at the end of the second quarter of 2021, to N38.005 trillion ($92.626 billion) at the end of the third quarter.

Statistics released by the Debt Management Office (DMO) indicated that the debt comprised total external and domestic debts of the federal government, 36 state governments, and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

The DMO explained that the increase of N2.540 trillion, when compared to the corresponding figure of N35.465 trillion at the end of Q2 2021, largely accounted for by the $4 billion Eurobonds issued by the federal government in September.

The debt management agency stated that the issuance of the $4 billion Eurobonds brought significant benefits to the economy by increasing the level of Nigeria’s external reserves, thereby supporting the exchange rate of the naira, and providing necessary capital to enable the federal government finance various projects in the budget.

The triple-tranche $4 billion Eurobond, issued in September, was for the implementation of the New External Borrowing of $6.18 billion in the 2021 Appropriation Act.

Meanwhile, Director General of the DMO, Patience Oniha, yesterday said the federal government would reduce local borrowing next year, with the expectation of increased internal revenue. Oniha also disclosed that in 2021, the federal government borrowed a total of N5.134 trillion from the local debt market and targeted borrowing for 2022 was N4.6 trillion.

She made the assertions while speaking at a webinar organised by Coronation Merchant Bank, in partnership with the DMO, where she spoke on “Nigeria moving beyond COVID-19: Opportunities for Investors.”

Oniha said while the country’s treasury bills’ obligations seemed to be rising in recent times, the debt office had been able to reduce its share of the local debt portfolio to less than 25 per cent. She said the share of treasury bills currently in the local debt basket was around 21 per cent.

According to her, “We have done better than keeping TBills at 25 per cent. We actually came down to 21 per cent from that in terms of total domestic debt because we wanted to reduce the re-financing risk.

“Even with the increase we are still below 25 per cent maximum in terms of total domestic debt. The target is not to go up. We just kept it there because there are other transactions, such as promissory notes that we are issuing that will increase the short-term component.

“What is driving the additional issuance of TBills is because the new borrowing levels are extremely high. Last year, it was N4.6 trillion, while the initial budget was about N1.7 trillion. All of that couldn’t have come from bonds only at decent rate, so some of it is being taken from TBills usually at the long end.

“If you see the auction results you see that we are more at the 360-day tenure. It is true we are issuing more TBills, but more like new borrowings to fund the budget. Again this year’s new borrowing is about N5.134 trillion, next year we are still in the range of N4.6 trillion.”

On the planned borrowings for next year, Oniha said, “The assumption is if we make 100 per cent of that revenue in the budget and then incur all the expenditure that we have we are still going to borrow.

“Unless we double or triple those revenue in the budget that is the only condition in which we won’t borrow. If revenue performs 100 per cent we are still going to borrow, anyway, based on the medium term expenditure framework.

“We keep telling the public and those tracking the debt profile of the country that actually the source of the borrowing is coming from the budget and in a few cases the separate projects that were approved and those are usually external.”

National Security Adviser (NSA), Maj.-Gen. Babagana Monguno (rtd), has identified Jama’at Nasr al-Islam Wal Muslimin (JNIM), Islamic and Muslim Support Group (GSIM) and ISGS as groups fuelling terrorism in Nigeria and other Sahel nations.

He enjoined Islamic clerics to back ongoing counter-terrorism operations. Monguno observed that alliances between the clerics and security forces “should be the backbone to rebuilding our terrorism-infested communities.”

The NSA spoke at the 14th Workshop of the League of Ulamas, Preachers and Imams of Sahel countries in Abuja. He said: “Terrorism and the rapid escalation of violent activities by militant Islamist groups in the Sahel since 2016 have been primarily driven by the Islamic State in Greater Sahara (ISGS), which mainly operates in Mali and extends to Niger Republic and Burkina Faso.

“It is bolstered by activities of groups such as Jama’at Nasr al-Islam Wal Muslimin (JNIM), the Islamic and Muslim Support Group (GSIM) and ISGS, which have continued to pose an imminent threat to the stability of the region.

“In Nigeria, Boko Haram and Islamic State in West Africa Province (ISWAP) dominate terrorist activities, especially in the North-eastern part of the country.

“The situation in the Sahel has never been grimmer, extremist violence continues to spread, the number of Internally Displaced Persons (IDPS) is growing; and food insecurity is affecting more people than ever before. There are several not entirely congruent working hypothesis underpinning foreign and regional government strategies.”

RELATEDLY, the Department of State Services (DSS) has vowed to crush bandits and other groups behind the widespread insecurity in the country.

The spokesman, Peter Afunanya, at a press briefing, yesterday, in Abuja, said since they “have crossed the lines, the DSS would not hesitate to crush them.”

He also raised the alarm that there “is a plot to recruit some students who will be going home for vacation into banditry, kidnapping, armed robbery, financial crimes and armed robbery.”

Afunanya noted that aside students, recessing members of the National Assembly/State Houses of Assembly and other public/private sector workers on vacation might be predisposed to threats of various degrees.

The spokesperson said: “Let me reiterate at this juncture that those who sponsor kidnapping, banditry, terrorism, insurgency and all kinds of attacks on security agents, civilians and vulnerable populations should have a rethink. These persons, whether in the North or South, know themselves.

“There is no doubt that they have crossed the lines and it is now time to crush them.”

Sports / Lewis Hamilton Receives Knighthood From Prince Charles; Now Sir Lewis Hamilton by AllahIsSatan: 1:52pm On Dec 15, 2021
Sir Lewis Hamilton has been knighted by the Prince of Wales – just days after controversially losing out on a record eighth Formula One world title.

The 36-year-old racing star attended an investiture at Windsor Castle to be honoured for services to motorsports.

Max Verstappen claimed an extraordinary and highly-controversial maiden world title on Sunday after his battle with Sir Lewis came down to a one-lap shoot-out in Abu Dhabi.

The Red Bull driver stormed past his title rival in the closing stages of the Grand Prix season finale at the Yas Marina Circuit, having benefited from a late safety car that bunched up the pack.

Sir Lewis was given a knighthood in the New Year Honours list in 2020 following pressure on Prime Minister Boris Johnson to approve the accolade.

Veteran actor Sir David Suchet was due to be knighted for his drama career and charity work, but announced he has tested positive for Covid.

Sir David said in a tweet on Tuesday evening: “I have sad news. I have tested positive for Covid via a lateral flow test this evening. So no investiture for me at Windsor Castle tomorrow. I am getting a PCR test in the morning.”

During the ceremony Barry Hearn, the chairman of the World Snooker Tour and the Professional Darts Corporation, was awarded an OBE for services to sport.

The former manager of snooker player Steve Davis is also the chairman of Matchroom Sport, a company which owns, produces and promotes 12 sports.

Singer and rapper Craig David received an MBE for services to music after staging a career comeback.

The star found overnight fame with the release of his debut album Born To Do It in 2000 but after the hits eluded him and he moved to America he returned to successful ways with his record Following My Intuition in 2016.

Abacha's daughter passed the Bar Exam because of her father. He created the Abuja Campus specifically for her so that she could attend law school from the comfort of Aso Rock.

The dullard's daughter sat for the Bar Exam three times before he was sworn into office in 2015, but "miraculously" passed at the 4th attempt after he became president.

I have friends who studied law at the Nigerian Law School Bwari Campus and they've told me that when exams are approaching, you start seeing all kinds of state of the art cars with federal and state government numbers hovering around the campus. You never see these cars during normal lecture hours. At the end of the day you'll hear that one senator's son or daughter was your course mate even though you never set eyes on them in class during lectures.

Ofodirinwa:

do you know this as a fact or are you just using your mouth to have fun? Can you tell me who you know passed the bar exam in Nigeria by knowing the right people?
