The Lagos State Police Command has confirmed that music promoter, Balogun Eletu, also known as Sam Larry, is now in its custody as the probe of Afrobeats singer Mohbad’s death continues.

This was made known by the Nigerian Police Public Relations Officer SP Benjamin Hundeyin via his X account on Thursday.

Popular Nigerian afrobeat singer, Daniel Anidugbe, aka Kizz Daniel, has said that he renewed his relationship with his former boss, Emperor Geezy, the founder of G-Worldwide so as to have more time to work on his music.

The leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, on Friday, declared an end to all sit-at-home order in the South-East and any other proposed means aimed by the group at forcing government to release him from detention.

Kanu made the declaration in a handwritten letter authorised to his special counsel, Aloy Ejimakor, to be read out to journalists during a world press conference held in Enugu on Friday.

The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) says it will begin a supplementary polio immunisation campaign from July 29 to Aug. 11, to sustain the poliovirus-free status in the FCT and Nigeria.

Mr Malan Haruna, acting Secretary of the Health and Human Services Secretariat, FCTA made this known while addressing a news conference in Abuja.

The news conference was organised in collaboration with the World Health Organisation (WHO).

Haruna recalled that Nigeria has been certified free of the Wild Polio Virus since Aug. 25, 2020, by the WHO, adding, however, that a strain of the virus still exists.

According to him, the strain, if left unattended to, can risk the resurfacing of polio incidence in the country.

“This is why this supplemental exercise of polio immunisation is crucial to curb the virus from spreading.”

He said that immunisation officers would be going from house to house, marketplaces, worship centres, schools, and other public places to immunise all children from age zero to 59 months.

Sheriff Oborevwori, governorship candidate of the Peoples Democracy Party (PDP) in Delta, has won the governorship election in the state.

Oborevwori defeated Ovie Omo-Agege, the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), to be declared the winner on Monday.

The PDP candidate polled 360, 234 votes while Omo-Age secured 240, 229 votes.

With under three weeks to go until the presidential election, major shortages of cash and fuel have plunged the nation into crisis.

As well as provoking outrage among ordinary people, the shortages threaten to upend the February 25 presidential poll while throwing its organisation into doubt.

In September, Bloomberg conducted a similar poll which also put Obi as the preferred presidential candidate. “Of the 92% of participants who said they’ve decided how to vote, 72% named Obi as their first choice,” the outlet said. “Of those who are still unsure, 45% said the 61-year-old is their preferred candidate.”

It added that 3,973 Nigerians were surveyed from September 5 – 20. Before the most recent poll, similar exercises predicted Obi as the leading contender for the 2023 election.

The Lagos State Chapter of the All Progressive Congress has said that the absence of Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo in Asiwaju Bola Tinubu’s will not have any effect on the party.

It said the party was not structured around individuals, adding that victory would be delivered for the party at the 2023 poll even without his participation in the party’s campaign.

Kashim Shettima, a running mate to The All Progressive Congress [APC] presidential candidate Bola Tinubu, has said that Tinubu was the key player in Lagos's transformation.

Ex-Plateau State Governor, Senator Joshua Dariye, has said his conviction on corruption charges filed by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) was politically motivated.

He stated this during an interview on Channels Television’s Newsnight, a pre-recorded show which airs every Monday.

“My issue was political in the sense that the same charge was taken to Kaduna High Court, Justice Liman dismissed that case,” he said.

“They were not happy, they carried the same document to the Plateau State House of Assembly and the whole amount we are talking about is N1.1 billion.”

On the exact money missing, the ex-governor put the figure at just N4 million, describing the sum as the commission on turnover.

According to the former Plateau governor, he would have laundered the money in commission and turnover if he wanted to steal.

Nigerian Vice President Yemi Osinbajo Friday said he remains committed to the dream of a new Nigeria, despite losing the All Progressives Congress’ presidential ticket to Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

He made the statement while speaking in Abuja at the campaign office of the Progressive Project (TPP), a coalition of support groups that backed the Vice President for the presidency.

Also, Yemi Osinbajo stated that he will support the winner and flagbearer of the APC for the 2023 presidential elections, Bola Ahmed Tinubu who won the just concluded presidential primary.

The Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, on Thursday, urged Pastor Williams Kumuyi of Deeper Life Bible Church to cancel his scheduled crusade in Abia State.

Sokoto Governor, Aminu Tambuwal, on Monday declared his intention to contest for President in 2023 under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

The former Speaker of the House of Representatives made the announcement in Sokoto after a stakeholders’ meeting.

President Muhammadu Buhari has ruled out the option of pardoning the leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu from prison.

Nigerian Former Vice-President, Atiku Abubakar, says strategic effort is needed by the government to promote unity in the country.

The former presidential candidate under the umbrella of the people democratic party PDP said Nigerians should be treated equally no matter their background or where they come from.

Retired Army Chief, Tukur Buratai, says all-around development is essential in putting an end to insecurity in the country.

A yet-to-be-identified Nigerian man has said he doesn't mind using either of his parents for money rituals.

In a video making the rounds online, he was asked if he could use his mother for money ritual and he answered in the affirmative.

When asked what he will do when his mother pleads with him not to take her life, he said that he won’t relent, instead, that will only trigger him to kill her faster.

According to him, if his parents cared enough about his welfare, they would have worked harder to give him a comfortable life.

The Nigerian Communications Commission has disqualified anyone below the age of 18 from registering and owning a Subscriber Identity Module in Nigeria.

This is according to the draft copy of the modified Registration of Telephone Subscribers Regulations published on the commission’s website.

In the modified regulations, NCC limited telecoms subscribers to only include anyone above the age of 18.

“‘Subscriber’ means a person not below the age of 18 years who subscribes to communications services by purchasing a subscription medium or entering into a subscription contract with a licensee.”

The United Kingdom is facing its worst fuel scarcity in history over reported claims of panic buying. This was even as motorists were spotted filling up jerry cans with petrol in pictures being circulated on social media.

Government said panic buying rather than supply chain issues is driving the shortage of fuel at some petrol stations in the UK, the president of a motoring association has said, amid continued reports of queues.

Police urged drivers to be “sensible” about filling up at petrol stations after long queues built up. Lincolnshire police said: “We have received reports this morning of long queues at some petrol stations in the county.

This is a potential hazard for vehicles making other journeys, and may cause difficulties for emergency services trying to reach people in need.

A newly wedded Nigerian man identified as Olisa was killed by unknown gunmen.

The incident reportedly happened in the Igbariam area of Anambra State. In the video, the masked gunmen dragged the deceased out of his car and shot him repeatedly to make sure he died.

According to a Facebook user, Dan Ugwu, Olisa recently got married to his wife.
