i really don't know what is hard to swallow about harvesting melange in 2 and half months at least. on water management, please kindly review the thread carefully a lot has been written on that already so nothing new to add. if you are talking about system used, its not an RAS or constant flow through. its a stagnant water system and you change water when required. no additional forms of aeration was included. like i said, you can modify and even better this result. regards

please can you explain how to go about aeration of water? I understand it is a way of increasing the oxygen level in water. And how can I know that the oxygen in water is low? Thank you

Hope you are not chasing a non existent problem while neglecting the important ones. Bloated stomach in catfish can be noticed just after feeding and dead fishes normally have bloated stomach when left in the water for a period of time. That said, since there are little to no symptoms to suggest its a viral or fungi infection ( fin rot, popping eyes, cracked skull or loss of appetite) I think the most likely cause would be poor aeration of the water.
1.Reduce the feed ration so there are no left overs(feed to saturation then stop)
2.Get an aerator
3.Take a sample of your pond water and soil for ph test as an acidic soil in earthen pond is likely going to alter the ph of fresh water coming into the pond.
4.Last and not least interconnection of ponds is never a good idea. Each pond should have its own inlet and outlet for you to be in control of the situation in each individual pond.

Thank you very much, Chilanfarm told me to stop feeding which I did, the next day I stopped having casualty, its been two days now without causalty so am resuming feeding.can I get an aerator from a feed store and at what range is it sold? Thank you

your tutor cannot be too busy to attend to the need of his student. Concerning the issue at hand, possible pollution/ bacteria and it is important for all to know that earthen ponds is different from earthen ponds. Some aerate well, while others are like stagnant pits. The ones that aerate better aids survival of fishes and in a situation of poor or low oxygen concentration, fishes could start dying. I would advice you stop feeding for 2-3 days if casualty is severe, but that your 3500 that you don't want to spend to pump out water, you will have to let go and pump out water for fresh inflow of water.

Also I noticed that this had being posted for a while, next time if you post here, you could also post on agricnetwork.com, I believe either way you will get a response faster.

All the best and stop overfeeding or the air spores in your pond will be blocked.

thank you sir, I will spend the 3500 but I dont want it to be a usual occurence. i was able to chat with one of the mentors here, he told me to use salt of 25kg and ashes of 20kg and a particular antiboitics after draining the water. Am yet to get ashes of such quantity. The dead fishes are having swollen chest. Thank you sir

House please help, I stocked 1060 juvenille in an earthen pond, at 2 weeks of stocking I started having casualties. My tutor said the water was polluted from other ponds since they are channelled to each other. I pumped out the water and treated with some antiboitics and salt and also blocked the channels to other ponds and things were fine. Now, my fishes will be 5 weeks old in 3 days and 2 days ago I started having casualties again. Today is the third day and I have counted 26 fishes. When it started again I bought Oxytetracycline and mixed with their feed as well as sprinking salt on the water but casualty has not stopped. Today I noticed the dead fishes had swollen chest when I removed them from the pond. My tutor does not have time for now. My fishes are dieing and the cost attached to pumping out of water is about 3500 aside treatment please I need urgent help
