Foreign Affairs / Vote Set On Controversial S. Africa secrets bill by aloyemeka4: 4:10am On Nov 22, 2011 |
Vote set on controversial S. Africa secrets bill By DONNA BRYSON | AP – 12 hrs ago JOHANNESBURG (AP) — South Africa's parliament prepared Monday for a vote the following day on a state secrets bill that critics within and outside the governing party said would smother freedom of expression and make it harder to fight corruption. The African National Congress, which holds a majority of parliament's seats, sponsored the bill, making it likely it would become law. The ANC said South Africa needs to update apartheid-era legislation defining state secrets and imposing penalties for their disclosure. The party bristles at suggestions from critics that its proposal would take the country back to the days of white rule, when the government banned newspapers and punished whistle blowers to stifle criticism of its policies. FILE - In this Saturday, Sept. 17, 2011 file photo people protest against the Secrets … Yusuf Abramjee, chairman of South Africa's National Press Club, said it was "a foregone conclusion" the bill would become law, and legal experts from several groups were already preparing to challenge the measure before the Constitutional Court, the country's highest court. "The bottom line is, our rights under the constitution are being infringed," Abramjee told The Associated Press Monday. He added that journalists planned to wear black to parliament during Tuesday's vote to protest the bill. In June, the ANC backed down on some of its original proposals, responding to months of criticism from newspaper editors, prominent writers led by Nobel laureate Nadime Gordimer, church groups, freedom of expression lobbyists, business leaders and others. Prominent ANC members also have opposed the bill, among them a former state security minister. The changes included removing mandatory prison sentences for possessing and publishing secrets — though reporters and others could still be jailed for publishing information that officials want kept secret. The ANC also agreed to limit the power to classify secrets to state security agencies, and proposed that an independent official — a retired judge — review appeals of state security rulings on classified information. http://news.yahoo.com/vote-set-controversial-africa-secrets-bill-112313848.html |

uplawal:So muslims are actually a SLAVE to their Allah?. So you still call yourself a slave even when fallible humans can hardly enslave others?. Are you kidding me?. What kind of loving Allah will derive joy in enslaving His children?. That is why I pronounce freedom from Islamic treachery and entrapment upon your life. I keep praying that you will meet Jesus someday and understand what freedom means. How can you proudly claim that you are a slave to your god?. In case you don't know, I am not a slave to my Jehovah, rather, I am His beloved child and the apple of His ever loving eyes. Muuuah , you can't beat the love my daddy in heaven have for me. Come to Jesus and there are many mansions left for you there. |

Sweetnecta:Who said Nazis were Christians?. Even the bible says that its not everybody who calls my name belong to my fold. Israelis were in slavery in the hands of the muslim Egyptians until Jehovah my God delivered them by splitting the red sea. Sweetnecta:Read the same mallam Surah who asked all muslims to kill unbelievers?. No, I can't read such sinister literature. Sweetnecta:Christians are not closer to anybody rather, they a close to everybody because the operating system of their faith is love unlike Islam that breeds hatred for unbelievers. Christ said, come to me as you are. We don't discriminate or hate people rather, it is haters who practice blind religion looking to stop us because they don't know why we have so much joy. Y'all need to stop wondering and come to Christ. Sweetnecta:If Muhammad and mallam Surah discovered space exploration, why didn't you guys go for it? or was Youri Gargarin a muslim? Sweetnecta:None of the people you mentioned above belong to Christianity. If Solomon was a christian, how come he married multiple women?. That's the problem with muslims, they fail to understand that we have a new covenant with God through the coming of Christ. |

Boko Haram has local political patronage, sponsorship – SSS on NOVEMBER 21, 2011 · in NEWS ABUJA (AFP) – The Nigerian State Security Service, Monday, declared that the extremist Boko Haram sect, blamed for scores of attacks including the August suicide bombing of UN headquarters, has links to local politicians. The SSS said they had exposed the connections after the arrest and questioning of an alleged spokesman for the Islamist group. “His arrest further confirms the SSS positioned that some of the Boko Haram extremists have political patronage and sponsorship,” secret police spokeswoman Marilyn Ogar said. The statement said that the suspect named as Ali Sanda Umar Konduga confessed he “was recruited by a political party stalwart in Maiduguri,” the northeastern city where most of the attacks blamed on Boko Haram have taken place. Police did not identify the political party involved. It alleged that Konduga was the Boko Haram spokesman quoted in the media under the alias Usman al-Zawahiri. He was arrested on November 3. Police did not say why it was only being announced now. There has long been speculation over political links to at least certain factions of Boko Haram, which has claimed responsibility for dozens of attacks, including an August suicide bombing of UN headquarters in Abuja which killed at least 24 people. Ogar’s statement alleged Konduga was “a former political thug,” referring to the practice of Nigerian politicians of recruiting or forming local gangs to help rig elections or use as muscle. http://www.vanguardngr.com/2011/11/boko-haram-has-local-political-patronage-sponsorship-sss/ |

He may tell you that any man who makes less than his wife is immature, etc. So, the problem we have today is judging others with your own moral/ethical standard. Are you suggesting that polygamists are immature?. So Buhari is immature? Bill Clinton is also immature after being one of the greatest leaders of the free world?. |
Religion / The 5 Richest Pastors In Nigeria by aloyemeka4: 2:13pm On Nov 21, 2011 |
The Five Richest Pastors In Nigeria IN the past week, attention of many Nigerians, and indeed, Africans was focused on the list of African wealthiest people, especially entrepreneurs, released by Forbes. However, among earlier lists that appeared on the website was one that contained the names of the Five Richest Pastors in Nigeria, including Bishop David Oyedepo, Pastor Chris Oyakhilome, Pastor T.B Joshua, Pastor Matthew Ashimolowo and Pastor Chris Okotie, which is excerpted below: GOD is good, especially if you’re a Nigerian pastor with some business savvy. These days, millions of souls, desperate for financial breakthroughs, miracles and healing, all rush to the church for redemption. And while the Bible expressly states that salvation is free, at times it comes with a cost: offerings, tithes, gifts to spiritual leaders, and a directive to buy literature and other products created by men of God. Pastors are no longer solely interested in getting people to Heaven; they’ve devised intelligent ways to make good money while reaching out to souls. Many other Nigerian pastors are similarly building multi-million dollar empires from their churches. Today, pastors fly around in private jets, drive fancy cars like Daimlers, Porsches and BMWs, don Rolexes and Patek Phillipes, and own breathtaking mansions all over the world. Bishop David Oyedepo Church: Living Faith World Outreach Ministry, a.k.a. Winners Chapel Estimated net worth: $150 million David Oyedepo is Nigeria’s wealthiest preacher. Ever since he founded the Living Faith World Outreach Ministry in 1981, it has grown to become one of Africa’s largest congregations. The Faith Tabernacle, where he hosts three services every Sunday, is Africa’s largest worship centre, with a seating capacity of 50,000. Oyedepo owns four private jets and homes in London and the United States. He also owns Dominion Publishing House, a thriving publishing company that publishes all his books (which are often centered on prosperity). He founded and owns the Covenant University, one of Nigeria’s leading tertiary institutions, and Faith Academy, an elite high school. Chris Oyakhilome Church: Believers’ Loveworld Ministries, a.k.a. Christ Embassy Estimated net worth: $30 million-$50 million His church, Christ Embassy, boasts more than 40,000 members, several of whom are successful business executives and politicians. Oyakhilome’s diversified interests include newspapers, magazines, a local television station, a record label, satellite TV, hotels and extensive real estate. His Loveworld TV Network is the first Christian network to broadcast from Africa to the rest of the world on a 24-hour basis. Temitope Joshua Church: Synagogue Church Of All Nations (SCOAN) Estimated net worth: $10 million-$15 million Nigeria’s most controversial clergyman is also one of its richest and most philanthropic. T.B Joshua heads the Synagogue Church of all Nations (SCOAN), a congregation he founded in 1987, which accommodates over 15,000 worshippers on Sundays. The Pastor has remained controversial for several years for his inexplicable powers to heal all sorts of incurable diseases, including HIV/AIDS, cancer and paralysis. For miracle-craving worshippers, it’s the perfect seduction. The church currently has branches in Ghana, the United Kingdom, South Africa, and Greece. In the past three years, he has given over $20 million to causes in education, healthcare and rehabilitation programs for former Niger Delta militants. He owns Emmanuel TV, a Christian television network, and is close friends with Ghanaian President, Atta Mills. Matthew Ashimolowo Church: Kingsway International Christian Centre (KICC) Estimated net worth: $6 million-$10 million In 1992, Foursquare Gospel Church, a Nigerian church, sent Ashimolowo to open a satellite branch in London. But Pastor Matthew had other ideas and decided to set up his own church instead. Today, his Kingsway International Christian Centre is reportedly the largest Pentecostal church in the United Kingdom. In 2009, the church posted profits of close to $10 million and assets worth $40 million. Ashimolowo earns an annual salary of $200,000, but his real wealth comes from varied business interests, including his media company, Matthew Ashimolowo Media, which churns out Christian literature and documentaries. Chris Okotie Church: Household of God Church Estimated net worth: $3 million-$10 million Pastor Okotie made his first success as a popular pop musician in the 80s. He found the light, embraced the Bible and set up the Household of God Church, one of Nigeria’s most flamboyant congregations. His 5,000-member church consists predominantly of Nollywood celebrities, musicians, and society people. He contested and lost Nigerian presidential elections for the third time this year under the Fresh Party, a political party he founded and funds. An automobile lover, he owns a Mercedes S600, Hummer and Porsche, among several others. http://www.ngrguardiannews.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=68103%3Athe-five-richest-pastors-in-nigeria-&catid=1%3Anational&Itemid=559#.TsmqDvMzjUo.facebook |

LagosShia: How come the west is kicking y'all azzes in the middle east?. Where is your Allah to defend you?. Many of you get false sense of security after reading that jargon from the quran and that's why men like Sadaam, Osama, Ghadaffi, etc who defied the Christian west got their head in their pot of soup. Where the heck was Allah when the US captured and executed these men? LagosShia:Israel is presently doing the same thing to roast the azzes of the muslim world. Another proof that your Allah is a liar. LagosShia:Which kin behind walls?, The US took war to the heart of Islam and will not relent to put Iran in their place if they intend to continue the lies handed to them by their Allah. LagosShia:Is your Allah not capable of predicting the future?. Ahhh, I forgot that he was probably illiterate. So he didn't see Henry Ford in his wildest dreams?. Even Muhammad the great prophet couldn't prophesy beyond 1 century?.Is that why y'all still ride the donkey like gas is too expensive in the desert nations?. I bet you your Allah thought the world began and ended in the middle east. What an Allah!!. LagosShia:Romans were Christians?. Did you do history at all?. The same Romans who were killing the Christians?. Are you deluded?. After defeating the Ottomans, who else can the 3rd world muslim nations defeat?. Pray tell the US leaves Iraq by Jan and I wish they abandon Afghanistan too let their Allah save their azzes there. LagosShia:Space ke?. The Allah who thought that y'all will ride donkeys till the end of time is talking about space. When he said , "you have power to penetrate", he was talking to the men to grab as many women as they can and penetrate them. It has nothing to do with space exploration. Can your Muhammed even spell "space" in the first place how much less talking about its exploration?. If Muhammed prophesied about space, why didn't the muslim world enter the space before the devil worshiping Christians or atheist Russians? LagosShia:Need I say more?. Thats why y'all have been killing as many of us as you can get. If my discussion here is not virtual, I can assure you that I would have been waylaid by the likes of LagosShia, McLatunji and Jenifa. |

Sunday, November 20, 2011 A woman of 41 can never hold on to a young boy of 25? UK Daily Mail's Amanda Platell's take on Ashton Kutcher and Demi Moore's relationship. An interesting read. Check it out below, Announcing her divorce from her cheating husband, Demi Moore said: ‘As a woman, a mother and a wife, there are certain vows I hold sacred.’ Did she mean the vows to keep her body young and her plastic surgeon’s number by her side? The end of her six-year marriage after repeated allegations of Ashton Kutcher’s infidelity comes as no surprise. From the very beginning, despite the Hollywood spin of the perfect match that was put out daily on her Twitter feed, this was a car crash waiting to happen. Not because Mr Demi Moore was serially unfaithful, but because a woman of 41 - the age she was when she and Ashton got together - was never going to hold on to a handsome young boy of 25. Marriages with an age gap can work, but usually when the couples are older and only when the two people involved behave like grown-ups. But this is more than just another Hollywood break-up. Demi Moore was a totem, a standard bearer for women of a certain age who believed they could have it all. She was the ultimate Cougar, the older woman who could snare any young man she wanted. Age did not constrain her, not with a cosmetic surgeon and countless millions at her beck and call. She did not grow older as we grew older. She was living proof you could hold back the years. Except, it turns out that she couldn’t. As yesterday’s divorce announcement proves. This is a salutary moment for those of us who, at some level, have bought into the modern myth of eternal youth — the notion that you can pay for a new face, new body or even a new baby when you’re too old to have one. It shows that, however rich you are, you cannot defy nature. Demi reportedly spent nearly £1million on cosmetic surgery procedures - but it still wasn’t enough to buy her a lasting relationship. Successful marriages are mostly born of a shared history, of raising children together, of memories, the joys and the hardships, and the pleasure of looking at your partner in the morning and being able to count each other’s wrinkles and laughter lines. In the end, Ashton preferred the excitement of sharing a hot tub with a bunch of groupies half Demi’s age (and Being Intimate with at least one of them afterwards) to joining his ageing wife in her desperate search for spiritual fulfillment. There isn’t a surgeon in the world who can change that. *** Thoughts? http://lindaikeji..com/2011/11/u-k-daily-mails-amanda-platells-take-on.html |

Ex-husband fingered in death of pregnant 35-yr-old woman •I did not kill her - Suspect Written by Oluwatoyin Malik Sunday, 20 November 2011 DETECTIVES at the Homicide section of the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Iyaganku, Ibadan are currently working on resolving the controversy surrounding the death of a 35-year-old pregnant woman, Opeyemi Olawole, whose body was found in her room at Sagba’s Compound, Gambari community in Ogbomoso, Oyo State. While the deceased’s co-tenant and landlord are claiming that she died during an altercation with her ex-husband, the man, Sunday Adeyi is maintaining his stance that he did not see the deceased the day she died, not to talk of having any argument with her. The suspect, Sunday Adeyi. Photo: Oluwatoyin Malik. Sunday Tribune gathered Opeyemi’s body was found in her room at about 7p.m. on Saturday October 22, 2011 sprawled on the ground with yam flour scattered all over the room. Shocked by this, her landlord had invited the police from Iresaadu Division and based on what he told the law enforcement agents, her former husband was arrested on the allegation that he killed the pregnant woman. The case was later transferred to SCID, Iyaganku for further interrogation. However, Adeyi, an indigene of Ogbomoso who lives in Abogunde Village via Ogbomoso, denied killing the woman. According to Adeyi, “everything the landlord and the tenant said is a lie. I have nothing to do with her death. It is amazing and a mystery that such a lie is being told against me. I am just suffering for what I know nothing about”. Giving an insight into his union with late Opeyemi and what led to their separation, Adeyi said: “I started a relationship with her about eight years ago and she had a baby girl for me whom we named Christianah. I was not her first man as she had a child for a man before I met her. I learnt that the man disappeared after she got pregnant and she never saw him again. “A little over two years ago, I had cause to travel because I was working as a motor boy following truck drivers when I was not getting much to do as a trained bricklayer. Before I left home on the fateful day, I bought all the food items she would take with our daughter and even cooked soup for her. You can imagine my shock when I came back, only to meet an empty house. This was someone I didn’t quarrel with, there was no misunderstanding of any sort. “I was told by our neighbours that she had followed one masquerade called Jascoli. I went to report to her family and her sister, Idowu, called Jascoli to return Opeyemi to her husband. Instead of coming back, she came two weeks after to pack her things from my house. I pleaded with her but she said I should leave her alone or she would call the police. I then told her that if she wanted to leave, she should bring my daughter back but she left and never brought the girl. “Since then, I have not set my eyes on my child and did not even come across Opeyemi until I heard about her in October this year when I went to see one woman whom we call Iya Adura where she lived at Gambari. Iya Adura prayed for me and told me that Opeyemi recently, came to her house to tell her that she was beaten by Jascoli. To confirm what she told the woman, Iya Adura said that Jascoli came to her house to beat Opeyemi again, warning her that nothing must happen to the pregnancy she was carrying for him, which was the second after the child she had for him. “I asked Iya Adura whether Opeyemi brought Christianah, my daughter, with her but she said she didn’t see my child with her. Iya Adura sent someone to her house to check if she was in but the person came back to say she was not around. I learnt she packed into the house after she broke up with Jascoli and left Iya Adura’s place. On my way out, I saw Opeyemi’s sister, Idowu, and she suggested we go to her house. Her sister introduced me to Opeyemi’s neighbours as her husband and since she was not around, we left. http://tribune.com.ng/sun/crime-features/5617-ex-husband-fingered-in-death-of-pregnant-35-yr-old-woman-i-did-not-kill-her-suspect |
Politics / Robbers Bomb Police Station In Nigeria by aloyemeka4: 7:43pm On Nov 20, 2011 |
Robbers on the rampage •Bomb police station, kill 2 policemen, loot armoury in Kogi •Attack Ogun ex-deputy gov’s house Written by Yekini Jimoh and Olayinka Olukoya Sunday, 20 November 2011 THE Divisional Police Station, Kabba, was on Saturday bombed by some heavily armed robbers, killing two policemen. A branch of a first generation bank that is close to the police station was riddled with bullets. In a similar development, the home of a former deputy governor of Ogun State was stormed by some armed robbers on Saturday. According to Sunday Tribune’s investigations, the robbers who attacked Kabba, numbering 10, invaded the police station at about 1.00 a.m. and bombed it, killing two policemen on duty and looting the armoury. Sources added that the robbers arrived on two vehicles and two power motorcycles, adding that immediately they arrived, they started shooting sporadically and then threw explosives into the building, a development that resulted in fire that burnt the station. It was further learnt that from there, they moved to the bank. It was also gathered that they ignited several dynamites at the bank’s vault, but they could not gain access into it before they left. Kogi State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Amana Abasankanga, who arrived Kabba to assess the situation, told journalists that immediately he was alerted to the incident, he mobilised his anti-riot men in Okene to go with the armoured personnel carrier (APC) to assist the policemen in Kabba. According to him, while entering Kabba, the anti-riot men met the robbers who opened fire on them and deflated the tyres of the APC before they escaped. He said his men swiftly responded to the exchange of gun fire with the robbers before they managed to escape, adding that he had put his men on red alert and expressed hope that the bandit would soon be arrested. http://tribune.com.ng/sun/front-page-articles/5619-robbers-on-the-rampage-bomb-police-station-kill-2-policemen-loot-armoury-in-kogi-attack-ogun-ex-deputy-govs-house- |
