olsmade: Most of the earlier posts are apalling - bigoted, tribalististic and lacking any modicum of common sense.
So because Adegbite cautions USA on labelling BH a terrorist group, he knows BH or is a sponsor. SMH4U
When they start dropping unmanned drones and killing 'suspected' BH members with lots of civilians, then u'll all know what's up.
To be sincere, I'll prefer the US mistakingly killing the innocent than BH killing the innocent every sunday in our churches. Atleast I can challenge the US govt legally.
Crime / Re: Man Sentenced To Death For Stealing N1,705 & N400 Milk by Alumnus: 12:34pm On Jun 22, 2012
A Boko Haram guy was last year sentenced to 3years for using bombs while someone is sentenced to death for using a gun to threaten a woman (not killed yet) and someone claim that it is the Law. Boko Haram has been killing endlessly for up to 3 years now and in every case there will always not be enough evidence to prosecute them. I thought our Law recognises the difference between the letters of the law and the spirit of the law? How can a politician steal in billions, kill fellow politician in an election, publicly acknowledge the reciept of a bribe in Millions and go scotfree while a boy is sentenced to death for possessing a firearm? If the guy is not freed, I'll assume there is no honour in our Judiciary, from the Supreme court down to the customary court.

Romance / Re: My Fiance Is A Virgin by Alumnus: 3:55pm On Jun 18, 2012
I laugh when people say that virginity is lack of opportunity but I'v come to realise that its a cliche which some persons use to make themselve look good even when they are jealous within. Its like saying that every Nigerian will steal if he is elected or appointed into govt. @OP, congrats, the like of ur guy is rare and I'll advice you to appreciate that. A man that withstood sexual temptation for 30Yrs is a disciplined man. It may not guarrantee a rosy home but losing it does not guarrantee it either. There are plenty virgins out there who chose it due to personal decisions and consecration, its not for lack of opportunity.

Am starting to admire this guy. Years ago when Elrufai claimed that the Senate members are demanding bribe from him the leadership of the Senate asked him to produce an audio record to prove his case and d case died a natural death. This time the claim now is that Femi manipulated Farcrook to collect bribe even when there are video and voice recording to prove otherwise.

What of those Hausas that were in contact with the Arabs before Nigeria was formed, were they not speaking Arabic? Some of these things could be like the case of crediting an invention to the person that first collects the Patent Right.

Since there is a ministry for Women affairs, The FG should establish a ministry for Men affairs to help poor men marry wives. This is too hollow for a Governor.
NYSC / Re: Open Letter To NYSC: Where Is The Orientation In The NYSC Camps? by Alumnus: 2:23pm On May 11, 2012
PHIPEX: I pray this gets to the front page but if it doesn't am sure someone will read this. Ordinarily, this should be in the Education section but I believe its better here(politics section) since I consider it a policy oriented issue. This is not a call for the abolishion of NYSC but a call to optimise the inherent opprotunities it affords. I have been to the NYSC orientation camp and I can say that beyond the fun in it which most of us had, the programme is a failure in term of what I and some other people thought it should be.

The NYSC to the best of my understanding is the largest gathering of the Nigerians youth under a single umbrella every 4 months of the year for about 21days. Even though the programme itself is meant to be a time to serve ones Fatherland but am curious as to why such a golden opportunity of having young men and women who will take control of the nation's leadership in the nearest future be wasted interm of creating a new culture and orientation in them. For those who have seen the program of event, the only aspect that is novel to the youth is usually the Military drills and parade, the rest are thesame things we the young graduates have come across in our days as an undergraduate. But for the presence of the militarymen around, most youth corppers prefare to loiter while in camp because there is nothing new in the program. The consequences are usually the urgly stories that come out of the camps because most corppers are either bored or prefer to exert their energy elsewhere.

I recognise that the NYSC leadership has just introduced skill acquisition opportunities in the program this year but that is not enough, it is also not enough to call professional bodies for us to join. The Nation is currently in crisis and most of the actors are youths some of them went through these orientation camps, will it not be proper to fashion out a more educative and change of behaviour oriented programs that will ensure that when these youths leave camp after 21days, they will become morally oriented to help confront the society challenges?
1. Will it be out of place to invite successful men and captains of industries in the country to the Youth camps to help inspire the youths to aspire to greater heights?

2.What will it look like to see the likes of Wale Soyinkas, Chimamadas, 2face Oluwaseun Osewa grin grin and very many other "idols" get closer to the young graduates and help in correcting our mentality of getting rich quick at any cost or taking to violence at the slightest provocation?

3.Is it impossible to make the NYSC orientation camps look like a mini national confab where intellectual youths could offer their opinions and ideas for the progress of the country?

4.Where is the place of the National Orientation Agency in NYSC?

Our leaders past have all squandered the opportunity to use our enormous material resources for Nigeria's good, if the present complement them by wasting this great opportunities to change the mindset of the youths being the country's human resources then by the long awaited 20'2020, when we would have taken control of the leadership of the country, Nigeria could be a pariah in the world. This is because, there may never be another opportunity to gather the youths together again in the manner of NYSC till they become leaders of the country.

I hope whoever knows the people responsible for planning the NYSC program of event will do something about this. Opinions are also solicited here to help the Corppers get better.

Its similar to that Ipaidabribe website that is proclaming everywhere that Alison is Nigeria's best Petroleum Minister ever. Let d moslem community who believe that BH is wrong go and occupy our streets and Mosques in protest of this carnage then we shall know that Islam is a religion of peace otherwise all Moslems should hide their heads in shame. Question: Aren't there some verses of the
Quran that condone "killing the infidel"? Answer: The Qur'an commands Muslims to
stick up for themselves in a defensive
battle -- i.e. if an enemy army attacks,
then Muslims are to fight against that
army until they stop their aggression. All
of the verses that speak about fighting/ war in the Quran are in this context.
There are some specific verses that are
very often "snipped" out of context, either
by critics of Islam discussing "jihadism,"
or by misguided Muslims themselves who
wish to justify their aggressive tactics. "Slay Them" - If They Attack You First For
example, one verse (in its snipped
version) reads: "slay them wherever you
catch them" (Quran 2:191). But who is this
referring to? Who are "they" that this
verse discusses? The preceding and following verses give the correct context:
"Fight in the cause of God those who fight
you, but do not transgress limits; for God
loves not transgressors. And slay them
wherever you catch them, and turn them
out from where they have turned you out; for tumult and oppression are worse than
slaughter... But if they cease, God is Oft-
forgiving, Most Merciful... If they cease, let
there be no hostility except to those who
practice oppression" (2:190-193). It is
clear from the context that these verses are discussing a defensive war,
when a Muslim community is attacked
without reason, oppressed and prevented
from practicing their faith. In these
circumstances, permission is given to
fight back -- but even then Muslims are instructed not to transgress limits, and to
cease fighting as soon as the attacker
gives up. Even in these circumstances,
Muslim are only to fight directly against
those who are attacking them, not
innocent bystanders or non-combatants. "Fight the Pagans" - If They Break
Treaties A similar verse can be found in
chapter 9,
verse 5 -- which in its snipped, out of
context version could read: "fight and slay
the pagans wherever ye find them, and seize them, beleaguer them, and lie in
wait for them in every stratagem (of
war)." Again, the preceding and following
verses give the context. This verse was
revealed during a
historical period when the small Muslim community had entered into treaties with
neighboring tribes (Jewish, Christian, and
pagan). Several of the pagan tribes had
violated the terms of their treaty, secretly
aiding an enemy attack against the
Muslim community. The verse directly before this one instructs the Muslims to
continue to honor treaties with anyone
who has not since betrayed them,
because fulfilling agreements is
considered a righteous action. Then the
verse continues, that those who have violated the terms of the treaty have
declared war, so fight them... (as quoted
above). Directly after this permission to
fight, the
same verse continues, "but if they repent,
and establish regular prayers and practice regular charity, then open the way for
them... for God is Oft-forgiving, Most
Merciful." The subsequent verses instruct
the Muslims to grant asylum to any
member of the pagan tribe/army who
asks for it, and again reminds that "as long as these stand true to you, stand ye
true to them: for God loves the righteous."
Conclusion Any verse that is quoted out of
context
misses the whole point of the message of
the Quran. Nowhere in the Quran can be found support for indiscriminate
slaughter, the killing of non-combatants,
or murder of innocent persons in
'payback' for another people's alleged
crimes. The Islamic teachings on this
subject can be summed up in the following verses
(Quran 60:7- : "It may be that God will grant love (and
friendship) between you and those whom
ye (now) hold as enemies. For God has
power (over all things), and God is Oft-
Forgiving, Most Merciful. God does not
forbid you, with regard to those who fight you not for (your) faith
nor drive you out of your homes, from
dealing kindly and justly with them: for
God loves those who are just."

wirinet:

Your threat above is immature and it shows you as a very bias moderator. When self righteous "born again" Christians troll every atheist thread, you do not threatened them with ban. They troll threads by satanists, Catholics, amorc, and even Muslim threads, you are happy with it. But once an atheist comments on a born again topic, you start fuming and threaten with ban and maybe hell fire.

Learn to become tolerant of other people's views.

As for the topic, in modern civilization, there is nothing like god centred relationship, a relationship should be based on love, tolerance and respect. And sèx is a very important part of it. I doubt there would be any relationship in the first place if there is no sexual attraction involved. The problem is if the sole aim of the relationship is selfish sexual satisfaction instead of the satisfaction of both parties.

I am surprised at the energy and importance self righteous people place on other peoples private séxual lives. If that amount of energy is expended on helping others in need, in fighting and discouraging corruption, dishonesty, hypocrisy, etc, then the society would be a much better place.

The main problem in Nigeria today is greed, avarice, sheer wickedness any body in authority including the clergy, and not who is having séx with whom

I challenge self righteous born agains to provide me with statistics that shows "god centred romantic relationships" succeed better than those of others, is the divorce rate of god centred marriages less than those of non believers? There are many GO's that have divorced and remarried, so many are engaged in extra marital affairs within their marriages.

So please provide us with proof that "god centred relationships" succeeds better than others.
