Been a silent reader here, had my interview with my Family yesterday...thanks to all the gurus here and their contributions....Our interview was slated for 7:30am. We got there 5:30am.I, my wife, son and daughter. By 6am, a man started calling those slated for 6am-7:45am. By 7:45,we were done with biometrics and fingerprints. By 8:05am, we were already in front of the VO. The crowd was massive but it was pretty fast as it was well coordinated. A family of 5 just before us were denied. The VO, a young pretty lady in window 2, asked the man how much was budgeted for the trip and he said $4000 , flight tickets inclusive. The VO tried to help out saying tickets alone should be about $4000 and asked again how much he budgeted for the trip. He repeated $4000 and added “It’s a lot of money but I’m ready to spend it for the sake of my family”.��� Next thing was the blue paper. Now our turn,
I and wifey: Good morning (with a smile)
VO: Good morning (with a smile too). Please pass me your passports.
VO: Why are you going to the US?
Me: We are going on a temporary visit to Atlanta as we plan visiting some nice and interesting places....
At this point, my 4 year old son cuts in as he started repeating all I was saying word to word. I stopped and smiled as the VO smiled back.Then my wife continued from where I stopped.
VO: Where do you guys work?
Me:I work at bleep bleep bleep as a Manager. We are into bleep bleep bleep. My wife stated where she works and was halfway into describing her duties...VO cuts in
VO: Have you travelled as a family before?
I and wifey: Yes to South Africa on a vacation. Wifey started listing the beautiful places we visited in Capetown. VO cuts in again.
VO: How long has your aunt been in the US?
Me: Next month will make it her 20th year in the US.
VO: How did she get to the US?
Me: Through visa lottery
VO: Does she have a family there?
Me: Yes
VO: Mentions one of my aunt’s children and asks how she was related to my aunt and I tell her she’s my aunt’s daughter. She mentions another name and asks who he was to my aunt. I said he was my aunt’s husband.
VO: Do you have any other relative in the US?
Me: Yes my grandmum
VO: What’s her name? I stated
VO: It’s like you have applied before
Me: Yes in 2015 alone
VO: Your present job does not correspond with the job I’m seeing here on the screen. I repeated where I worked again and said I only got promoted.
VO: Where do you work again? Told her again and she nodded. At this point, my son kept pointing at the VO and shouting repeatedly,“Daddy Daddy who is that?” I felt embarrassed but managed to whisper in his ears, “The Visa Officer”. And he exclaimed, “Visa Officer” as the sister joined him too calling her “ Visa Officer” repeatedly. The beautiful lady couldn’t help smiling as she kept typing and typing. Next was the white paper and instructions on how to pick up the visa. People dey talk say at this point,they no longer hear anything anymore but me and my wife,we hear everything. I couldn’t hold my joy as I drove my family straight to chicken republic to get my kids buckets of ice cream for a job well done.

Tips:
-We filled the forms ourselves
-Get all the information of whoever that is inviting you.
-Be confident, look the VO in the eye and try to make your interview more of an interactive conversation.
-If you’ve been denied before, and intend applying again, strive at keeping the information in in your ds-160 form consistent and also try to see that your circumstances have changed from the time of your previous application.
