Counsel to the leader of IPOB, Nnamdi Kani, Ifeanyi Ejiofor, has alleged that his client has been abducted and probably killed during the recent face-off between members of the secessionist group and the Military had in Imo and Rivers state recently.

President Buhari will on Sunday, September 17th, depart Nigeria for New York, to join other world leaders at the 72nd session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA 72). According to a statement released by presidential spokesperson, Femi Adesina, part of the high point of President Buhari’s visit will be his participation in the General Debate during which he will deliver the country’s National Statement.

The theme for this year’s Debate is: “Focusing on People: Striving for Peace and a Decent Life for All on a Sustainable Planet.” President Buhari will join other world leaders at the welcoming reception to be hosted by the UN Secretary General, Antonio Guterres, and also hold a bilateral meeting with the UN scribe. He will also hold a lunch meeting with President Donald Trump of the United States of America, along with other world leaders.

During the General Assembly, Nigeria will participate in high level meetings on ‘Prevention of Sexual Exploitation and Abuse: Building Momentum for Change,’ the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting, a High Level Event organized by the African Union under its Theme of the Year: ‘Roadmap on the Demographic Dividend: from Commitment to Action,’ among others.

At the events, President Buhari and members of his delegation will strive to project Nigeria as a strong moral force and responsible member of the international community.

Nigeria’s commitment to global peace, security and development will also be reaffirmed and where necessary, the need for increased international cooperation in the fight against corruption.

Other priorities for the Nigerian delegation at UNGA 72 include strengthening human rights institutions; the rule of law; support for Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) as a result of terrorist acts and recent flooding, and mitigating the effects of Climate Change.

The Nigerian delegation will also canvass the support of UN member states for the Buhari Administration’s efforts towards combatting illicit financial flows in order to foster sustainable development.

Yesterday, former Minister of Education, Oby Ezekwesili, advised President Buhari to stop the alienation of the Igbos due to the restiveness of a few of them such as members of the Indigenous People of Biafra.

Senior Special Assistant to President Buhari on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu, has now replied her. In a statement he released on social media, Garba said the former Minister should rise above pettiness as his boss was not in anyway alienating the Igbo race. Read his statement below
"The presidency has advised the Co-convener of the #BringBackOurGirlsGroup, Mrs. Oby Ezekwesili, to demonstrate a great sense of responsibility in the face of national security challenges posed by the IPOB incendiary propaganda designed to cause civil unrest in the country.
The Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Malam Garba Shehu, said "a prominent influencer like Dr. Oby has a moral and patriotic duty not to give ammunition to any violent group that seems determined to pursue its separatist agitation through reckless and destructive methods."
He explained that, "while it is convenient for the civil society activist to condemn the military and the government of President Buhari, Mrs Ekekwesili didn't find it appropriate, even once, to criticise the dangerous and violent propaganda being propagated by the IPOB leader, Nnamdi Kanu. Oby, as they call her, tweets on everything. Why was she silent on this one?"
According to him, the attacks on soldiers and policemen by IPOB supporters "was most irresponsible, indefensible and reckless" and that nobody in her position "should elevate mobs to the status of rock stars for the sake of playing to the gallery."
The presidential media aide said while the military are taking all precautions to observe the rules of engagement, "there is a deliberate sinister agenda by IPOB to provoke the soldiers into killing innocent people in retaliation so that Nnamdi Kanu would use the pictures of the victims for international propaganda by the accusing the government of ethnic cleansing against the Igbos with the sole purpose of gaining sympathy."
"A president who has put put the nation's cash cows, the Central Bank and the Ministry of Petroleum in the hands of the Igbo; who has given four out of five states in the subregion senior cabinet posts in his administration, including Foreign Affairs; and Industry, Trade and Investment, and is constructing the Second Niger bridge after years of deceit and false starts cannot be called a hater of the Igbo."
The statement warned that the politicization of the ongoing military exercise in the subregion, itself in line with similar exercises in the five other geopolitical regions is inimical to the military readiness of the armed forces and the much-desired improved civilian-military relations in the country.
Malam Garba Shehu also wondered why Mrs. Ezekwesili "retreated to the background or lost her voice while IPOB supporters were violently molesting, harassing, attacking and jeopardizing the lives of indigenes and non-indigenes."
He challenged Mrs. Ezekwesili to explain to Nigerians where the constitution of Nigeria, and international human rights law support the killing and molestation of innocent people in the name of advocacy for self determination.
According to him, "her hypocritical and timid silence while Kanu's IPOB supporters were engaged in lawlessness and recklessness in violation of his bail conditions is a burden on her credibility as a national crusader who should be courageous to condemn criminality. This art of using a raincoat while taking a bath is nothing short of self deceit."
He reminded her that "if the Buhari administration could take tough action against the extremist religious groups in the northern parts of the country to preserve national security, it is ridiculous to accuse the President of sending soldiers to the Southeast because he hates the Igbos. The Federal Government under President Muhammadu Buhari respects all citizens and will ensure that they are safe and secure wherever they reside."
Shehu advised her to rise above pettiness and sentiments, and to resist the temptation to play to the gallery, when the country's national security is under threat, adding that "seeking to make political capital out of a chaotic situation is highly unbecoming of her and of the reputation she has worked hard to build over the years."

National Publicity Secretary of APC, Bolaji Abdullahi, says the Minister of Women Affairs and Social Development, Aisha Jummai Alhassan, has admitted that her statement that she will not support President Buhari for the 2019 presidential election was uncalled for and was made out of indiscretion and has apologized to the party.
Abdullahi disclosed this to newsmen after members of the National Working Committee met with the Minister at the party secretariat in Abuja yesterday September 14th. According to Abdullahi, Alhassan has accepted her fault and the fact that the timing of her statement was wrong and apologized to the party. Recall that she had an interview with BBC Hausa last week where she stated that come 2019, if President Buhari, her boss and former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, were to contest for president, she would campaign and support Atiku who she claims to be her godfather. She also stated that she doesn't mind getting sacked for her comments.
Speaking to newsmen after the meeting with the Minister, the APC spokesperson, Abdullahi said: “Since the issue of the comment she made came up, the party has not said anything regardless of what individuals may have told you because we are a party that recognized the right of her members to express their opinions or views. We also had an opportunity to discuss with the minister to understand what she said and in what context she said so before we know how to respond. So, when she came, we asked her to explain to us what truly transpired and in what context she said what she said and she did offer these explanations. Now, having offered her explanations, we acknowledged that as a member of this party, she is entitled to her opinion and she is entitled to her choice. However, as a senior member of this party, her statements represent an act of indiscretion because, with the kind of position she occupies even within the party, she is a party leader in her own right, what she said was not what she was supposed to say at the time that she said it. She ought to have exercised greater judgement than she did and she acknowledged that yes, maybe she ought not to have. Maybe the timing was wrong and she apologised that if she had put the party in any difficult position, she apologised. I want you to take note of the fact that nobody is questioning her right to take the position she has taken. We have not come out to say, ‘why are you saying you are supporting this person?’ She has a right to her choice and to support whoever she wants to support. Afterall, she is not saying she supports a member of another party. But what we are saying is that with the position she occupies, she ought to have exercised greater sense of discretion and better judgment knowing that making that kind of statement would definitely create some other situations for the party, if not for the government".
When asked whether the party offered her an option to resign since she doesn't believe in the political aspiration of her boss, Abdullahi said “That did not come up. What we just said was that we understand the context in which she said what she said, but it was an act of indiscretion for someone occupying the position she is occupying in the party to make that kind of statement. If this was 2018 and the people have filed their applications to say they are contesting and she now comes out and says she is supporting this person, how can that be an issue? But we are still in 2017. We are still far away. Atiku has not said he is contesting. He has not collected any form. He has not announced to anybody that he is contesting. So, that is what we mean by the timing. It is not that she had no right to say what she had said”.

A 27-year-old Nigerian woman was fined RM1,500 in default of two months’ jail by the magistrate’s court in Kualar Lumpur for offering sex services to a policeman.
The woman identified as Aitimon Ruth Efe pleaded guilty when the charge was read to her before magistrate Mahyuddin Mohamed Som on Tuesday, September 12.
The mother of one was charged with soliciting for the purpose of prostitution by saying “Hey, brother… want sex with me? RM200” to corporal Mohamad Musa Mohamad Kadam in Bukit Bintang on Sept 6.
The offence falls under Section 377B of the Penal Code, which carries maximum one years’ jail, or a fine, or both, upon conviction.
Deputy public prosecutor Nur Farah Adilah Noordin urged that an apt punishment be handed down to the accused.
However, Aitimon’s lawyer, Norizan Yaacob, pleaded for a lenient sentence, saying this was her client’s first offence.

The Federal Special Anti-Robbery Squad (FSARS), Lagos Command Detectives have arrested the killer of a Catholic priest serving in Imo State, Reverend Father Cyriacus Onunkwo.
The suspect, identified as Raphael Ndukwe, was tracked down to his hideout in the Ajangbadi area of Ojo, based on a tip-off.

Fr. Onunkwo was kidnapped in Imo State by gunmen on Friday, September 1, 2017 from his car and taken to Omumma, where his body was found the next day.
He was returning home to organise the funeral of his late father when he was abducted. Ndukwe is the leader of a kidnapping gang that had been terrorising Imo State for many months.
He escaped to Lagos after four of his members were arrested in the state. Ndukwe’s gang was also allegedly responsible for the kidnap of one Gloria Emordi who was said to have visited Imo State for a burial ceremony on April 22, 2017.
On arrival in Lagos, the suspect, nicknamed Tiger, settled down with some of his friends who operate as thugs at the Alaba International Market, Ojo, but later fled to Ajangbadi, when the heat on him became hot.
But the police in Lagos finally tracked down the 29-year-old suspect and arrested him on September 10, 2017. Soon after his arrest, he confessed to some of the crimes he committed both in Lagos and the South-East.
The told the police that this was not the first time he would be escaping to Lagos after engaging in a criminal operation.

A man simply identified as Tony a.k.a Sugu was allegedly shot dead by a police officer in Elele town, Rivers State on Sunday, September 10.
According to a Facebook source:
"The saddest of it all is that Sugu was hustling and preparing for the burial of his late mother before he met his untimely death."

Frank John, who posted rest of the photos, wrote:
"The tears in my eye's and the entire elele youth in ikwerre local government .
The police shot dead a youth called sugu in elele because he refused to give them 100 naira .
The entire elele youths are so pained as they have blocked the road . so sad, so painfull
We have lost u sugu, killed by Nigerian police"

The Director-General, Kogi State Bureau of Information and Grassroots Mobilisation, Alhaji Abdulmalik Abdulkareem, says the Kogi state government has blamed the discovery of N145 million fraud in the salary voucher of the Kogi State Polytechnic, Lokoja, for the delay in the payment of July salary of its workers.

The government’s statement was in response to the threat by the institution’s Academic staff Union of Polytechnics (ASUP) to embark on an indefinite strike over non-payment of July salary of its members.

“Kogi State Government affirmed that the discovery of N145 million fraud in the salary vouchers was responsible for the delay in payment of the July salary. This is based on facts obtained from the office of Auditor -General of Kogi State".

The ASUP had threatened to direct its members to embark on strike if the July salary of its members was not paid by September 11. Andulmalik faulted the position of ASUP and other unions in the polytechnic, saying that the delay in payment of their July salary was self-inflicted.

He alleged that some accounts staff of the polytechnic bloated the salary vouchers to defraud the state government of N145 million. According to him, the salary was delayed to give room for a thorough investigation into the alleged fraud. The director-general said the state government had recovered N145m from the bloated wage bills.

Early this morning, a magnitude 8.0 earthquake struck off the coast of Mexico. It has now upgraded to 8.1. The tremor stuck at a depth of 33 kilometers (20 miles) and triggered a tsunami warning off the coast of Chiapas, Mexico.

Mexican President Enrique Pena Nieto has already issued a statement on his Twitter, saying emergency protocols have been put in place. "Civil protection protocols are activated, including the National Emergency Committee, after earthquake 8.0 magnitude" he tweeted.

Within one hour of the initial quake, four aftershocks of more than magnitude-5 were recorded by the USGS.

At the moment, parts of Mexico City are without power, and authorities have already dispatched extra patrols to those areas, Mexico City Mayor Miguel Angel Mancera said in an interview on ForoTV. A first assessment using helicopters and the city’s security cameras, do not show immediate damage, but officials in the Mexican capital continue to monitor, the mayor said..

A deadly fight between two brothers over internet devices ended with 20-year-old Tim Record, of Leominster, Massachusetts stabbing his older brother, 23-year-old brother, Nathan, to death, police said.
Tim Record pleaded not guilty Wednesday to the murder of his brother, Nathan.
Their mother called police Tuesday evening after her sons' argument over digital devices that overtaxed the home’s internet bandwidth turned bloody, CBS of WBZ-TV reported.
According to information witnesses gave to the police, the brothers were arguing over the use of digital devices which overwhelmed their internet bandwidth and that led to a fight. They claim Nathan allegedly punched Tim in the head, and retreated to his bedroom. Tim got upset, stormed into the kitchen took some knives, went to his brother's room and stabbed him in the chest.
Nathan was rushed to the UMass Health Alliance Hospital, where he died. Tim was arrested, handcuffed and taken away as soon as the police arrived. He is being held without bail.
“I would say the family’s in mourning at this point, that‘s probably the best way to describe their situation. Very sad, very tragic,” Tim Record’s attorney, Blake Rubin, told reporters after his arraignment Wednesday.
