Staslhandel Van Zijl NV, Rotterdam.
Metalhandel Christiaens, Eeklo, Belgium.
MetaalGaller also in Belgium to name a few.

They are big metal warehouse/factories where you can order base on your requirements, it will be produced and delivered to your site. They also produce for known brands.
If you need reinforcement rebar all they need is the measurements, specifications or project drawing.
I have been in these warehouse, the choices are too enormous, there you realise how advanced human technology has gone.

Thanks I appreciate .. Some of our clients needs there construction work delivered in 1and half yrs 2yrs maybe with this we may save time ... After making a cost comparison of this

The welding are mostly factory done with computer assisted and precision, they also personally do the welding on site with a special spacing tools that give precise results.
I noticed it commonly used in foundations, decking, load bearing floors, light roads(on heavy load roads they uses bigger sizes) and concrete roof.
This is nice I will research more extensively on it pls provide d company name or product name.

When welding is done it may reduces the strength of steel when not properly done reason we don't advise such but on some of the project have work on we usually template on ur rebar for it. Not to move out of position

Just wondering why are these type of iron rod mats not being used for decking and concrete work in Nigeria? They are readily available for installation, cost less time and work to install.

This will mostly not be recommended because we can't satisfy the welding requirements which is used to connect d bars together if it can transfer the stresses received

The general arrangements of the panel may not conforms with this template and may not satisfy anchorage , lap length from one members to the order..

Don't know if this is easy to move between floors because still is heavy during construction

The bar spacing requirements also will be an issue

This maybe suitable in composite construction of slab though , To reduce crack on a lightly loaded pedestrian crowd walkway

I have always thought, with the high costs of building materials , why haven't our people dived into this thing... I know they are widely used in the U.K - Europe. I think this was a German engineering.. I could be wrong..

Now, let's bring this thing home..

What are the limitations (if any) in using this in Nigeria?

How would it work for multi story buildings say 3 or 4 decking?

Do you know of any project (specifically a multi story building) that they used this on and how has this building faired over the years??

The reason why you dont see it much here is basically economic view of it .. Explanation below

Its usually recommended in situation where you have a very bad soil and we want your building to be light as strict as possible to reduce foundation cost for you

It makes building a structure very fast because its a plug and play thing like building with steel
exp when you r doing ur foundation first floor to 5 floor will have been produce and ready just maybe 75mm topping to be cast

Quite number of project it as been used for on the island and we have a company in nigeria you send your floor plan to and they check and send back the layout of placing back to you to recheck with your design..

But is it cheaper Not really , its not cheaper as u may have taught but its left to you to choose between time (which is money Also) or going for our older methods..

This implies casting a slab and having to wait 21- 28days to achieve its strength before going to the next stage of work..

..

What about Shimawa

It's also closer to Rccg

Land Is about choice and how close you are presently to the site or relations because you need constant visit but your first step is identify the said property make sure its check from the town planning office .

..Because some advertise their property as shimawa but u will discover u r already at shagamu ..

Simawa is not bad with the number of estates springing up there too. He’ll get good ROI from Simawa than Ofada if it’s a commercial build but he needs to check and check because most land in that area to Sagamu belongs to RCCG.

Yes simawa is really good but he really need to chart any landed properties around simawa well from Ogun state Town planning even any land along that axis including the ofada I suggested ..but d part ofada I am suggesting is close to mowe in 10-15mins ride also

Redeem has a lot of lands yet to be develop around isheri close to wear Obj land is both are damn big and yet to be developed..

Good evening bosses

Who knows about prices Lands at Sparklight estates ojodu here??

i don't know d Price , but I know this few things sparklight is not ojodu its abt 3km to ojodu.. So its basically isheri or use Kara as the location ..the main reason I comment is if you eventually get the property make sure u raise ur ground floor level high Enough ..or ask anyone around walking and working around the water level at that particular side when Ogun river discharge its excess water to its plain ..

Make sure u build right there ..just my opinion though

Good day house.
Practically , what is the maximum distance a beam can span between two supports using 12mm rods for both support and beam.

There's nothing like practically in structural Analysis of structure's, there's a code and guideline so Theoretically

Using 12mm grade 410 rebar depends on the loads coming to the beam example I may decide to put 4 no's of 12mm road in a 3m span beam or put 8no's in same 3m span due to the load coming to it..

But for span in beam is define by how deep ur beam is , so cater for deflection..

Provide d layout and purpose of d design and I will tell you the best reinforcement to use..
But practically without adequate measure it will WORk and fail soonest..

Good morning all

Please I need an estimate. How much will it cost to do decking for the attached plan.

No one can really say how much will deck this plan except you want the quote for the concrete alone which the slab thickness is still needed from a structural drawing and the reinforcement and spacing is required..

Get a Structural drawing for your work first and seek people opinion

U said PhD holder ...I did Civil Engineering and 95% of my lecturer are Phd holder in a polytechnic ..please stop posting thrash from your point of view..

Both are created for different purpose is enough point but one is not superior to each other because a polytechnic student as been taught to address issues logically and realistic reason you need them more on field..

A university student will reason theoretically and provide solution with proof and send this to the polytechnic graduate which in turns take this information and put it to work.

Please don't look down on any degree because now its what you can do and no job out there self for everyone..

Reason u see everyone learning tailoring dragging space with the people we called Artisan years ago to become like them and have steady income and become your own bozz

Thanks. Yes, it was designed by a structural engineer. BUT, he seems hesitant for me to do the decking first. It's a 5 bedroom semi-detarched duplex with 24 columns 230 by 350 each. Maybe he designed it such that the blocks would carry part of the weight of the decking and he doesn't want to disclose that to me. What do you think?

column dimension are 230mm*350mm each do u know what span this column are apart each (minimum dimension of the closest column) and maximum dimension of farer one..

The beam size is what also.. Asking all this to have a small idea on the said project how many floors..

I won't know the designer motive if I just dish out advice without understanding his/her scheme on your project.

Well you can pm me on my signature the plan and structural drawing to have a check if you wish or follow his advice jejely..

Structural recommendation is not what should be dish out without proper understanding of the scope except some extreme bad practice..

Do you have this said building designed by a structural Engineer?

It depends on the designer motive..
But if its a frame structure sure u can do ur structural element and later arrange ur block wall or arrange ur block and do d decking when u get to that stage..

Difficult to answer professionally , do u have a structural design of d project

Hello house,

Please is this a good rate for bore pile?

28 points, without pile cap(s)

I feel it can be better.

Thanks

The bill is not cool but my consign is grade 20 concrete for piles thats natural disaster.

See most of this pple will not achieve grade 20 strength insist on grade 30 which 7days strength is 20 and tell them not to make d pile cut of point until at least 21days..

Another reason I said that is since most of ur piles have been optimized to single u don't wanna make them do rubbish for u

And why must u have one pile point all through r sure the loadings is correct

The foundation is a pad footing and very coolwith soil with a good bearing capacity.. The beam is a plinth beam it helps to reduce the effective length of the column.. In lay terms..

That beam helps to chain those column together and support loads coming from the top it helps prevent the floor from cracking and helps the foundation against collapse from back fill.

You are an Engineer - nice one. Some people don't even do German floors again all in the name of cutting costs.

I didn't know that the water there was rising from the ground. I thought it came from outside. Please explain the concept of wall joints to me properly

I am not an engineer but as one whose house is under construction, I follow what is going on there very well to avoid bad stories later.

Thank you in advance

Joint in this case maybe casting on different day, the floor joint to the wall or holes in the German floor (void)..water will follow this part into the building...

Water table is some area during raining is not upto 20naira ruler when this rain continue the ground get saturated filled up and not able to take as d result water finds its level..

Using a good foundation and German floor and proper drainage u can solve this issue..

Note

At times it might not rain in ur area and d table may likely rise due to other areas well filled up and water flow underneath also..don't cut corners in ur foundation that's just d trick..u can ask more question for clarity

The Lagos flood has made me to start raising the level of my compound that is still under construction. My compound level must be very high now.

I am doing a major modification to ensure that any water in the compound flows out and if the road is too flooded, it will take a heavy downpour and high water level to make that penetration.

As a builder in Lagos, watch what happens after heavy downpour in your site.

As u can see her case is not with flooding from outside but the water table rise up and penetrate through the wall joint and pores in the German floor ..

when making your Modification remember to use the polythene nylon before ur German floor

Pls how do I embark in fencing 2 plots of swamp land.I need a clue please. The people I took to the land don’t have a professional experience.

As d poster above said raft ..but d clue is at what level water rise in such area ..do u have a river very very close by ..because most times swampy area are plain which when d water table rises its meant to keep the spillage ..

exp I have a site dry season water table is below 700mm but when d river rise d height of water is above 2 meters..

All said above is d clue. so ask around or look for tress or ur neighbor fence to determine this u will see d damp part from previous water and pls if u want to d raft make sure its done well not d one that d concrete will be like sand and later collapse due to pressure ..d footing should be adequate
