Intel has announced the release Stephen Hawking's speech system as open source, encouraging innovation and improvements that could open up the technology to people with physical disabilities throughout the world. Stephen Hawking, who is probably one of the best scientific minds of our time, was diagnosed with ALS at the age of 21. This slowly paralyzed him and eventually took his ability to talk, but with the help of a unique speech system, he found his voice again. In 1997, Intel designed a unique speech system that allows Hawking to communicate with the world. In 2004, text-to-speech functionality provided by NeoSpeech gave him his iconic voice. The speech system was closed source and proprietary licensed, which meant that only Intel engineers could work on improvements. Everyone else who wanted to improve the technology had to build their own system from scratch—until now. Late last year, Intel announced plans to open source all code for Hawking's speech system. The company released it on GitHub earlier this year under the Apache License, version 2.0. How Stephen Hawking's speech system works The speech system is comprised of three main parts, which work as follows: An infrared sensor on Hawking's glasses, which senses movements in his cheek. The signal from the infrared sensor is then sent to a software platform, which allows Hawking to navigate the system without using his hands. This can be used to perform a range of tasks, including moving a mouse or using a virtual keyboard. Text-to-speech functionality, which takes the text he writes and turns it into speech in his iconic voice. Why make this technology open source? By releasing this technology as open source, Intel has allowed anyone in the world to make improvements to the technology. With a computer, an idea, and some motivation, you could make improvements right now. Prior to the release of this technology as open source, any engineer outside of Intel would have had to design the entire speech system from scratch just to make one small improvement. Now, with all of Intel's hard work out in the open, it is easy for anyone to build on top of the technology that has already been designed. This should dramatically increase the rate of improvement of the software, which will result in better quality and more accessible technology. Who can this technology help? Unfortunately, not everyone with motor neuron disease has access to or the funding needed to get a speech system like this, which can render communication impossible. But with the release of this technology as open source, the future looks bright. As the rate of improvement and accessibility of this technology rises, more and more people with life-changing physical disabilities will be able to use it and begin to communicate again. In today's world, there are over 3 million people who live with motor neuron disease and quadriplegia who find it difficult or impossible to communicate. professor Hawking's speech system is able to be adapted to suit the physical abilities of each person. For example, the technology can be developed to react to blinking, eyebrow movements, touch, and other subtleties.

Born Robyn Rihanna Fenty, on February 20, 1988, in Barbados, Rihanna signed with Def Jam records at age 16 and in 2005 released her first album Music of the Sun, which sold more than two million copies worldwide. She went on to release more albums and an array of hit songs, including "Unfaithful," "Umbrella," "Disturbia," "Take a Bow," "Diamonds" and "We Found Love." A global pop star with an unrelentingly edgy image, Rihanna has also won multiple industry accolades, including Grammys and MTV awards. In January 2005, music producer Evan Rogers landed Rihanna an audition for Def Jam Records and its newly minted president, the legendary rapper Jay-Z. "I was in the lobby just shaking," she recalled. However, once Rihanna opened her voice to sing she regained her composure. "I remember staring into everybody's eyes in the room while I was singing, and at that point, I was fearless," she said. "But the minute I stopped singing, I was like, 'Oh my God, Jay-Z is sitting right in front of me.'" The hip-hop icon was every bit as wowed by Rihanna's commanding presence as Rogers had been two years earlier, and he signed her on the spot. 'Pon de Replay,' 'Unfaithful,' 'SOS' Only eight months later, in August 2005, she released her first single, "Pon de Replay," a reggae-influenced club track that reached No. 2 on the Billboard singles chart and announced Rihanna as the next up-and-coming pop star. Her first album, Music of the Sun, released later that month, reached No. 10 on the Billboard albums chart and also featured the single "If It's Lovin' That You Want." Rihanna released her second album, A Girl Like Me, the next year, spawning two major hits in "Unfaithful" and "SOS," Rihanna's first No. 1 single. 'Umbrella' In 2007 Rihanna effected a transformation from cute teen pop princess to superstar and sex symbol with her third album, Good Girl Gone Bad, fueled by its smash hit lead single "Umbrella," featuring Jay-Z. "It shows such growth for her as an artist," Jay-Z said about the track. "If you listen to the lyrics to that song, you know the depth and how far she's come." 'Don't Stop the Music,' 'Disturbia,' 'Hate That I Love You' "Umbrella" topped the Billboard singles chart and earned Rihanna her first Grammy Award for Best Rap/Sung Collaboration. The album reached No. 2 on the charts and also featured the singles "Shut Up and Drive" and "Don't Stop the Music," with the latter featuring a sample of Michael Jackson's "Wanna Be Startin' Somethin'." Good Girl Gone Bad: Reloaded, released the following year, scored further hits in "Disturbia," "Take a Bow" and "Hate That I Love You." 'Only Girl (In the World),' 'S&M' Continuing her onslaught of hit albums, Rihanna released Rated R in 2009 with the singles "Hard" and "Rude Boy." Her 2010 album, Loud, was once again a commercial success behind the songs "What's My Name," "Only Girl (In the World)" and "S&M." Besides her own laundry list of hit songs, Rihanna is also featured on a host of popular songs by other artists, including Jay-Z's "Run this Town," Eminem's "Love the Way You Lie," Maroon 5's "If I Never See Your Face Again" and Kanye West's "All of the Lights." 'We Found Love' In 2011 Rihanna released her sixth studio album: Talk That Talk. The album included "We Found Love," a track with DJ Calvin Harris that won the 2013 Grammy Award for best short form music video. 'Diamonds,' 'Stay' On her Grammy-winning 2012 album Unapologetic, Rihanna turned out such hits as the No. 1 Sia Furler tune "Diamonds" and "Stay," featuring Mikky Ekko. (Interestingly, Unapologetic was the first Rihanna album to hit No. 1 on the pop charts.) She also worked with Coldplay on the track "Princess of China" and, the following year, reached No. 1 again with another Eminem collaboration, "The Monster." Known for her sexually provocative imagery and wild style, Rihanna made headlines for the sheer dress she wore to the Council of Fashion Designers of America awards ceremony in June 2014. She was there to receive the CFDA's Fashion Icon Award and told the crowd that "Fashion has always been my defense mechanism," according to an Associated Press report. Rihanna acknowledged that there were some rules to fashion, but explained that "rules are meant to be broken." Around this time, the singer made a bold professional move as well: She switched from the Def Jam label to Jay-Z's Roc Nation. 'FourFiveSeconds' In August 2015, NBC announced that Rihanna would be the key adviser on The Voice's ninth season. That same year she contributed vocals to the single "FourFiveSeconds," a collaboration with West and famed Beatle Paul McCartney, as well as releasing "B**** Better Have My Money," a tune allegedly inspired by court wranglings with her former manager that also featured a highly controversial, violent music video. In 2015 Rihanna also became the first artist in history to have 100 million singles digitally downloaded and streamed. 'Work' In late January 2016, Rihanna released her next album Anti, allowing Jay-Z's online streaming site Tidal to exclusively feature the collection of tracks for a week. The gambit paid off for the struggling service, with one million trial subscribers joining Tidal in less than a day to partake in a download promotion for Anti. The lead single off the album is "Work," featuring rapper Drake. In 2017 Rihanna scored another no. 1 hit as a featured artist on DJ Khaled's Wild "Thoughts." 1 Like 1 Share

Deontay Leshun Wilder (born October 22, 1985) is an American professional boxer. He has held the WBC heavyweight title since 2015, and in doing so became the first American world heavyweight champion in nine years, which was the longest period of time in boxing history without an American heavyweight champion. As an amateur he won a bronze medal in the heavyweight division at the 2008 Olympics. This led to his nickname of "The Bronze Bomber", which Wilder coined after Joe Louis, who was known by the nickname of "The Brown Bomber". Wilder is particularly known for his formidable punching power, having finished all but two of his fights inside the distance, and has succeeded in knocking down or knocking out every single opponent he has ever faced. His knockout-to-win ratio stands at 98%, with 20 knockouts in the first round. He is a two-time winner of the Premier Boxing Champions Knockout of the Year award, in 2016 and 2017. As of May 2019, Wilder is ranked as the world's second best active heavyweight by BoxRec, and third by the Transnational Boxing Rankings Board and The Ring magazine.

Why are the new buildings collapsing and the old ones still standing firmly? This question discombobulates me a lot. Is it the fault of the client by not providing enough funds to carry out the construction work or the person responsible to carry out the construction work? Why is it that even storey buildings in ancient cities like Zaria, Timbuktu, Kano that were unsophisticatedly constructed using mud by self- taught people of those days are still standing? In Nigeria, most of the contractors are after money instead of making name for the company, they go for substandard materials just to maximize profit without considering the potential risk and imminent disaster they are putting the occupants into. It is obvious that the government has turned a blind eye on this matter, by allowing those responsible to go unpunished. Isn’t that blatant lack of respect for human lives? The so called building code should not just be like a piece of trash in the hands of the legislators passing it from one assembly to the other without implementation. The way projects are being carried out in this country is totally different form how it’s done in other countries. In United States for example it took them ten years to plan the construction of the Golden Gate Bridge linking Marin County, California to San Francisco. The Notre Dame Cathedral which was built more than 700 years ago, Empire State Building built in 1931, and they are still standing strong. I doubt if there is any building constructed in Nigeria that is not more than ten years old which has not developed cracks or dampness. All we adopt is the fire brigade approach of solving problems (reactive response). We only see registered body like COREN, CORBON and the rest of them making verbose address on television after a building has collapsed, which in my own perspective is nothing but a medicine after death. That is just the bitter truth. By Aminu Alhassan (Yababa) 1 Like
