Please I need any blood tonic or name of herbs to boost my PCV (blood) I have tried ugu, milk and malt, they are not working. Thanks

They are all working, you only need to boost the process of creating new blood vessels by taking folic acid and vitamin c tablets.

Your body neither creates nor stores these vitamins.

A tree in a dream signifies a life or a living person. The woman trying to cut the tree is trying to kill. Pray against the machinations of the devil and don't be deceived by appearances. Fast and Pray. God has shown you their plans.

Eat healthy, Fruits and green vegetables (esp. Pumpkin leaf). In my case, I figured it had to do with age. I was in my final year when I noticed I was filling out my clothes. Now I'm struggling to maintain a healthy BMI.

I have given birth! Another baby boy.

I had a wonderful time reading this novel. Nice work. Had to stay up part of the night reading. Just work on your use of homophones (i.e same pronunciation but different spellings) e.g' rip' should be used instead of 'reap' ('rip apart' not 'reap apart') etc.

Have to read Cyber Lover. I think it'll be good.

Please elaborate more. Is it because of the Iron content or what?
Though I always try not to buy blood capsules that do not contain Iron.

Yes, its because of the Iron (Ferous) content. My mom was educated quite early about the dangers associated with iron supplements like chemiron. She was told it contributed to the distended abdomen which some SCD sufferers have. Multi vitamins capsules is okay.

Abali1: I will like us to talk about those foods and fruits we have been taking to help us keep fit and stay healthy. Or the ones you heard of.

Here is my list of foods: Vegetable; either in soup form or when it is squized and you drink the water or using it to do stew.
Beans (I don't particularly like it, but I prefare eating it with rice).
Fiofio (pigeon pea) Actually I used to eat it while in the boarding house, without knowing that it was good for my health. But recently I came across an article that says that it is suspected to be an anti sickling agent and that it contains essential Amino Acids necessary for the production of RBC.
I now take it with rice.

Cucumber, banana, garden egg etc.

But am too lazy to strictly adhere to these healthy diets. (Maybe my wife, when she comes will do a better job than my mum).

I want to add Liver, Cabbage (for its calcium content). The importance of green Vegetables cannot be over-emphasised. Pumpkin leaves juice (after squeezing the leaves thoroughly) gives ur blood levels a great boost.

Please please please, I noticed this has not been mentioned, never take blood capsules or medicines cos they'll damage the liver.

Dreystar: Does anyone know if excessive water intake as any negative impact on ones health?

Years ago, on a very sunny day, I got dehydrated, and began craving for water, in less than 12hrs, I drank 25Litres of water(I had water in a 25litres keg and it got exhausted within 12hrs lipsrsealed )
I kept peeing at intervals and couldn't eat as I was filled.
That very evening, I became dizzy and had to go see my doctor, the doctor insisted I stayed back at the hospital for "observation" though I wasn't given any medication but the doctor said taking excess Water isn't good for me.
But since then, I've not had a reoccurence of such, but I drink water adequately.

Can anyone explain what was wrong with me back then? undecided

You were lacking salt (Sodium). When you take lots of water, you are advised to add some quantity of salt in it. Without adequate salt, your body will never retain enough water to make the body function properly. No metabolic process can take place properly without enough salt.

FKBZ: Hello house,
I was forced to sign into NL today because of this topic, normally am just a guest who come to read and go.
I am an SC patient but not differnt from the SS,the crisis is something else, I cry my hearts out whenever the pains come.
I have checked the website you guys prescribed and I would be ordering the drug.
It not easy been a ss paient but with GOD faithfulness I have been able to overcome the pain but luckily for me most of my pains last max of 1week,I hardly go to the hospitals cos the doctors r just theives who give you the same drug at ridculous prices, and I have noticed any time am in crisis no matter the drug I take, its wen d pain decides to go down that it does.
But I have a question pls wat do u guys use to curb pains wen dey come,I have pains in differnt parts of my body sometyms my ass(lol)I heard abt someone who experiences pain in her vigna sometyms.but the worst is the back pain cos there is no how I can rub it to reduce the pain(lol).Don't mind me I love massaging my body wen the pain come just to reduce it.
Also does the disease affect a female monthly period, because I feel it does cos my monthly tinz come but in very little bits(I hope u guys understand)lol...
Let me rest here and await your comment.

Hi there!

The reason for ur period not flowing well (and I'm guessing it come late at times too) is because ur Red blood cells levels are low. This is not peculiar to SS alone. Try boosting it regularly by eating a lot of green vegetables especially pumpkin leaves. If u can, wash the leaves as ‎u would bitter leaf and drink. Works wonders for ur blood levels.

As for the pain, one thing I do while experiencing pains is to calm down and try shut it out. Crying or rolling about makes it worse. Also drink lots and lots of water. I have actually avoided going to the hospital on some occasions by doing that.
And there's Cellod-S!

"In the latter
study the HbS carrier state was found to be
negatively associated with all potentially lethal
forms of P.falciparum malaria, whereas the
negative associations of the carrier states of HbC
and α-thalassemia were limited to cerebral
malaria and severe anemia, respectively. These
findings strongly suggest that, under conditions of
intense P.falciparum transmission, young sickle-
cell heterozygotes (AS) survive better than those
with normal hemoglobin (AA), whereas sickle-cell
homozygotes (SS) survive least well of all three
genotypes." Culled from Wikipedia en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Genetic_resistance_to_malaria

pls read my post again my argument is not sufferer's ability to withstand malaria attack but their resistance to malaria attack u were right about the anaemia in fact that is further supporting my point . Homozygous SS and heterozygous AS genotypes have some level of resistance to malaria attack their response to attack is totally a different matter
you can qoute me anywhere i used a whole semester to study sickel cell disorder

If u are talking about AS having resistance to Malaria, I concur, but not on the issue of SS. I am not a doctor. U studied this, I live it! I've had near death experiences arising from malaria!

This has been debated on this thread www.nairaland.com/425145/malaria-genotype-link.
Health / Re: The Facts And Myths Of Sickle Cell Disease by Amynamerica: 8:42pm On Oct 31, 2012
jnrremedy:
this is not misinformation let me explain
scd patient have some level of resistance against malaria. The reason why scd is prevalent in the black continent is due to malaria. Our body response to malaria parasaite epidemic over the years resulted to the development of scd(thats is why it is prevalent in subsaharan africa, asia nd some other countries(like d carribean) where malaria is epidemic )
malaria parasite(i.e plasmodium sp.) destroys red blood cells by feeding on heamoglobin in d cell. There is a stage in the life cycle of d parasite that involves d parasite living in the blood cells(sporozoites stage) without this stage d parasite will not be effective in infecting other cells. This is where ss/as genotype derive their resistance. Due to the deformed shape of their red blood cell(d sickel shape) their blood cells dont live long they re rapidly destroyed in d liver and spleen(d average life span of red blood cell is 90 days). The rapid destruction of sickel red blood cell means d parasite too in them will be destroyed without them reaching maturity stage to cause further damage. All this dont mean as/ss wont develop malaria (d imunity is not full some parasites can still circumvate dis defence) but this gives them some level of resistance agaisnt malaria attack when compared to d other genotype(aa)The reason why this resistance is not so well pronounced in scd pateint is cos of their fragile ability to withstand bacteria/parasite attack(remember this is not a full 100% resistance). But it is a liitle bit more pronounced in AS thats why they dont develop malaria easily. You should also no that AS too have sickel cell shaped red blood cell but not as much as SS genotype.

I beg to differ.

The reason why SCD sufferers are advised to avoid mosquito bites at all cost, is as a result of the fragile nature of their Red Blood Cells. The Red Blood Cell of a Sufferer lives for half the life span of a normal Red Blood Cell. That's is why its called Sickle Cell ANAEMIA (because they are always in need of fresh Red Blood Cells). When Malaria strikes, the Red Blood Cells get depleted even faster, causing a build-up in the Liver (as it tries to eliminate the dead cells) thereby causing the eyes to yellow. This (yellowing of the eyes) is usually taken as a sign of malaria in most sufferers.

This short life span of the Red Blood Cells of sufferer should not be qualified as an advantage. If malaria strikes the sufferer at a time when the blood levels are at a low, it could lead to death.

blink182: The oldest I know should be 83 years now.

Herbal practitioners, have gone really far but I believe as far as this disease is concerned Cellod-S is at the fore front. Presently, stage 2 of clinical trials is being done. When it passes, the drug can then be sold to institutions and chemists. Really can't wait for that to happen. Sufferers should be able to walk into any chemist and buy relief.

Don't wait!!! Start taking CELLOD-s. I am on it already (started 3months ago) and it works wonders. I couldn't thrive on NICOSAN cos while I was on that, whenever my period starts, I used to experience serious crisis.

Drink lots of water. Water helps to detoxify the system thereby cleansing the liver and ridding ur eyes of the yellow tinge.

Abali1: It was after this crisis, that I really knew that God is indeed a WISDOM.
Before the crisis, our promotional exam was fast approaching. And I really stressed myself reading (cos I wanted to impress my dad). You won't believe that I came back the weekend before the exam day, after staying in hospital for almost 2 or 3 weeks and I passed and got promoted.

So, when the man dropped me at my mum's office the woman just prepared and rushed me to the hospital. The same hospital I stated above. The doctor ran a couple of test and the result came back....MALARIA, TYPHOID AND PNEUMONIA.(i hope that is the spelling)
I don't know if it was the typoid, but after each blood transfusion my blood level will go up and before you know it has dried up again. This time around, my doctor was as confused as anyone. But, to God be the Glory I pulled through that one.

Its actually as a result of the malaria in ur system that your blood kept drying up so fast. That's the reason why SCD patients are advised to avoid getting bitten by mosquitoes.

Politics / Re: Otedola/Lawan $620K Bribery Scandal Probe Hits Dead End by Amynamerica: 9:03am On Jun 28, 2012
$620,000 Enters Most Wanted List :::: THE State Security Service (SSS) has placed the $620,000 bribe money taken by Farouk Lawan on the most wanted list. This is the first time that money instead of a criminal is placed on the list. Anyone who gives useful information on its whereabouts would be entitled to one-week special SSS protection by Ms SSS herself, Marilyn Ogar.

Meanwhile, a trends analyst has suggested three paths Farouk can take to freedom and one path the police can take.

For Farouk:

•Don’t release the money. When they charge you to court, use $50,000 from it and bribe the judge. Then live happily ever after in Nigeria. I repeat: In Nigeria. If you go to Dubai or London, you’re on your own.

•Have faith that the case will die, and then use the money afterwards to pursue your 2015 Kano governorship campaign. After all, a governor from the South East won his election even though he was in police custody on Election Day.

•Nigerians love entertainment. Win back their heart by doing another reality show just like the subsidy probe you conducted. Liaise with DSTV and do a show titled: Who’s gat da dollars?

For the police, just one advice: Partner with the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) to detain Farouk Lawan and give him the Baba Suwe treatment. Inspect his faeces because it is only logical that eating the money raw is the next step to placing it on his head as he’s alleged to have done. ~Stanley Azuakola
